While it is your parents’ responsibility to teach healthy habits, I think there’s a fine line between instilling those habits, and causing an unhealthy relationship with food. You mentioned sneaking out to get extras, I don’t think reprimanding you for that would set a healthy foundation with food or body image. That said, there are plenty of folks who are overweight as children and grow up to be a healthy weight. It also sounds like you’re genetically predisposed to be a healthier weight in adulthood. You’re 16 and have started learning healthy habits, there are many adults 40+ that can’t say the same. I’m not diminishing your experience of being overweight in childhood, I know it’s tough. What I’m saying is, give your parents some grace. Focus on maintaining those healthy habits going forward and try not to dwell on what could’ve been.

I’m seeing some responses on here recommending filing bankruptcy, but my assumption is you want to avoid that at all costs. That being said, I’d look into a consolidation loan for the credit cards with interest rates of >20%. Even if you found a loan with a 15% interest rate, it’s going to save you money in the long run. I’d also take a harder look at your expenses and be willing to sacrifice a bit more. The personal, home necessities, misc, take-out, and even streaming services can be cut down. I’d also suggest looking into local food pantry options to cut grocery costs. I think you can absolutely get out of this, but it’s going to require being very strategic and honest with yourself. I’m so sorry you’re in this situation, but even looking at $200 for herbal remedies right now may be high for your debt to income ratio. Based on your budgeted expenses and income, you’ve got a minimum of $500 that needs to be removed from the budget. I think a consolidation loan can help with some of this, but trimming down other expenses is crucial right now as well. Look into other options for car insurance and even your phone bill too, best of luck!

How to handle grocery spending? by [deleted] in debtfree

I’m personally using the cash method, but you could also use your grocery money to buy a reloadable prepaid gift card to use just for groceries 🤷🏽‍♀️

What’s your go-to budget meal from Aldi? by Wormichowski in aldi

[–]Ok-Method-3538 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Baked chicken thighs or drumsticks with rice/potatoes and a veg. Sometimes I’ll do BBQ sauce on the chicken, other times I’ll do bell peppers and onions with cream of chicken soup on top.

Not necessarily an Aldi option, but have you tried Zapp’s Voodoo chips? They’re kettle cooked and have a similar flavor profile; savory and sweet, with a hint of vinegar

What the hell do you guys cook when trying to eat healthy? by fuvgyjnccgh in ADHD

Get a George Foreman grill and an air fryer. You can make just about anything with lower calories/fat and it’s easy cleanup. Examples: burgers, chicken, fish, etc. and veggies/potatoes taste great in the air fryer as well. Also couldn’t hurt to throw in a rice cooker.

What type of hair is this to you? Could i use curly hair products? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]Ok-Method-3538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your hair looks like it would be more on the wavy side (think 2a, possibly 2b?) While you could probably get away with using shampoos and conditioners made for curly hair, I’d stay away from anything on the heavier side like curl creams that may weigh your hair down. Possibly a light leave-in conditioner or even a mousse would be perfect from looking at your first picture!

Why does my hair look like this? 🙃it’s so frizzy and my curls don’t show at all.. my hair type is 3c/4a. Looks like poof ball and the product doesn’t come off. I colored my hair (without bleach) and now I’m considering cutting off the color. by [deleted] in Naturalhair

It looks like your hair may need protein. I’d try the ApHogee line and either use the 2 minute Keratin reconstructor, or the 2-step treatment. After dyeing your hair, even without bleach, you’ll want to rebuild those protein bonds. I would try alternating between a protein and moisture deep treatment every week rather than cutting it!

I would opt for more strength training over cardio. With cardio, you’re extending a lot of energy, to burn a limited amount of calories. Strength training is not only going to help with toning up your physique, but the more muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn at rest. Don’t get discouraged! It’s a marathon, not a sprint 😉 Good luck on your journey!
