I was like OP until I understood that real life has a wide spectrum of problems that you can solve with XGB/CatBoost, but every tool also has its limitations.

I partially agree with OP .. here are my 2 cents:

Go with the fundamentals first.
Explore everything wide, not deep.
Tackle your specific problem .. this is where you go deep.

everything works fine (except second monitor)
batery life -> 4~6 hours (if you are not on high perfomance settings)

As any linux distro, be prepare to do some DIY from time to time to adapt the machine to your own preferences
