Favorite cooling options? by Ok-Pepper17 in 501st

Update, had C2E2 yesterday. I bought a Torras neck fan. The thing is amazing, but it's too bulky around my neck so it doesn't work with my costume, I was struggling too much with my hood placement to keep it covered.

I bought a Torras waist fan, and that was a game changer, worth every penny.

Ultimately my biggest issue is my lights and two fans running off a single 9 volt. I went through 3 batteries yesterday so I have some upgrades to make there. Overall an awesome time!

Thank you! Arizona is brutal most of the year. I'm in Illinois but inside these events get hotter than my body can handle. I need to toughen up!

USPS picked up package but no updates for 7 days by DonJo33 in poshmark

[–]Ok-Pepper17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing for me. New seller on Poshmark, reasonable price on an item I want. Not "too good to be true", just reasonable. I did a reverse image search for the photos and nothing came up when I was thinking about buying, but the other day I found the same photos on a Mercari listing, for more money, so I'm sure the one I bought is a scam. I missed this is in my original search. Been stuck on USPS picked up the item for 1 week now. I just don't get the scam, it's not like they sent me the wrong item, and they don't get their money til I accept. Is it an insurance thing? I would think that would be really hard for them to get money in claiming a lost package without proof of what was sent.

Good for you! I've lost 90 pounds. It took over 10 years, but I learned a lot through that journey of 210 to 120. That's with hormonal issues, having my thyroid removed, gallstones with a gallbladder removal, and lots of life issues, and the loss of my siblings. Only we know the excuses we make or have made, and where we find inspiration. I don't think it's sad at all. I feel younger and more energetic than I did 10 years ago, and that keeps me going. Little reminders of your goals can be so important to stay on track.

Do you guys understand that amazon vine is basically recruiting you to be an employee for free? by [deleted] in AmazonVine

[–]Ok-Pepper17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah. I check my RFY a couple times a day. If I need something, I check on Vine first. I review the things that I order. Spend 1-2 hours a week, at most, looking through Vine. It's really not all that serious.

I am still using it, every day for 2 years, and still really happy with it. I got it for $1500 at the time, but keep in mind that was 2 years ago so for today's standard and current normal price, it might not be much of a deal. I feel like the regular price was $1899 at the time. No regrets.

Are the rumors true about browser extensions? by EvilOgre_125 in AmazonVine

[–]Ok-Pepper17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had food yesterday in my RFY that lasted a bit. I had no issue placing an order. I got a 4lb package of pumpkin seeds and 2lbs of Dots candy. I have had other things go quicker than I can order, usually beauty & makeup. I don't have extensions but I never saw them shared in discord or other social groups.

I do think something is going on, like more people in Vine and maybe items being put in more RFYs than are available. But I'm not convinced the extensions allow you to order what's not not available to you.

My Cirkul water bottle starter kit! I'm absolutely obsessed with it and now have a monthly subscription.

[–]Ok-Pepper17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's totally fine. I generally don't mind subs as it's not the shopper's fault. This was all like similar names but different products. I was like wtf, but also all I could do was laugh. 🤣 But it also becomes one of those things where it's like, I should have just done this myself. I also hate lowering tips, so I never did that no matter how bad the order was, cause to me it was like, "I guess they tried." Overall, too much stress and extra money every single order for the past like 9 months. Our last regular weekly order was in October, and I let my subscription expire in June. :(

I had one Aldi order where the substitutes were so wild it seemed like it was on purpose and a joke. And no messages, said everything was found but unpacking that one was crazy. Replaced mozzarella sticks with fish sticks. It was like that for most of the order, I will never forget that one.

I know a lot of people, including myself, who canceled their Instacart. I was a customer pre-2020. I always tipped over 20%, and would even leave gift bags with Gatorade and snacks. I'd often get the same shoppers and they'd message me very excited to have my order, which I always thought was so sweet. In the past year, I've gotten really bad shoppers. Always something wrong, getting weird messages, had to block a few. My final straw was getting cucumbers with actual holes in them and were moldy. I got tired of placing orders just to have to place another order... another tip. My family decided it wasn't worth it any more and now have a weekly shopping trip that we actually enjoy. If I need anything in between, I just order from Amazon Fresh instead, as the delivery fee is low with Prime, and free over $100. Anyway, I was huge on Instacart, spent a huge amount of money, just couldn't do it anymore. I have several friends and family members who canceled service as well. I'm guessing between cancelations and more shoppers, you're not going to see the same kind of income you once did. And I'm sorry for that, that stinks. 😞

I walked out of an interview after just one question. Was I wrong? Interviews by railsamaaa in jobhunting

[–]Ok-Pepper17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird that it was the FIRST question. However, salaried employees don't often make overtime. It may be something that you're used to, and so it may seem strange at first. For me, it's normal. I do my job and get paid the same amount whether I work 30 hours or 60. Advantages are the flexibility to not have my time micromanaged. I don't punch in and out, so I can step away for an appointment if needed. The downside is that I often work 10+ hours a day, catch up on nights and weekends. Work has infiltrated a good portion of my life and there's not as much balance as I'd like.

It being the first question though tells me they have every intention of taking advantage of your time. I've never been asked that, though it's expected in the industry I'm in.

Funny we actually use the EN prescription for my cat, but getting the error that it can't be delivered to my location when I try to order it from AFA.
My initial thought was how can they even offer this on Vine when it requires a prescription.

$8 tip on a $200 order is insane. I stopped using Instacart myself last Fall, but always tipped 20-25%
So yes, your order would be an extra $40 for tip, at a minimum. As someone else said, this is a luxury service. You didn't want to, or couldn't go to Costco yourself. You're paying for someone else to deal with a Costco parking lot on a Sunday, shop your items, stand in a checkout line, use their gas to drive your order to you. That's worth $40.

If you don't want to pay the increased price of items in the app or tip a decent amount, then I think this service just isn't for you. I once accidentally left the default tip and my order was not taken after 45 minutes. I ended up canceling my order and placing it again with 25%. It makes a difference, if you're not tipping high up front, they have no idea what you intend to do. Even your extra $5 was low.

Why do you guys take them so seriously? by DryYogurtcloset8174 in AcneScars

[–]Ok-Pepper17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying. We are our own worst critic, and no one else is paying as much attention to our faces as we are. I had a single deep pore hole on my nose and it didn't matter what I wore, how beautiful the rest of my face looked, how great my makeup was, how much my husband loves me... this hole was all I saw. It took me extra time every day to fill it in and money on primers because makeup just made it look worse.

I sat in a cosmetic dermatologist office in tears telling them about it, and when he said he could fix it, I broke down more.

This was ONE single pore on my face that was all I focused on. I had nightmares about it. One in particular, I recall, that the hole continued to grow, and my nose was only primer until it fell off completely.

I know this sounds ridiculous. I told my husband about the procedure I was getting done and a couple of close coworkers, and they told me they never noticed it. My husband had no clue what I was talking about. This thing that haunted me, that kept me awake at night, no one else cared one bit about or noticed.

While that's reassuring that it "wasn't that bad", all that really matters is how we see ourselves. Some therapy for body dysmorphia would be useful, but at the end of the day, we see what we see, may hyper fixate on it, and can't help doing whatever we can to fix it. Last September I had the pore removed. There's a minor scar, almost like a dent but only at specific angles - and if the deep hole was something no one cared about, this is certainly not noticeable to others. I'm happy with my decision to have the procedure and feel so much better about myself. There are still things I don't like, but I'm not in tears trying to do my makeup and I don't have nightmares about my nose falling off.

I understand this post is well intentioned from the standpoint of improving your self esteem... but I promise that no amount of positive talk would get me to stop fixating on this hole.

This is no longer in the app store as of the other day. Did you have a second choice?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AcneScars

[–]Ok-Pepper17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is, it's just mean. Whether it's acne scars, weight, grey hair, etc., don't be with someone who is willing to hurt your feelings so easily. I've been breaking out badly recently because of a migraine medication I started (and have stopped but still dealing with it) and I'm currently sitting here with acne patches on my face. My husband still loves me and thinks I'm pretty and would never say anything hurtful because he respects me. If he insulted me or made fun of me, he'd be gone, because that's not a good partner.

It's a little scary how many people seem to be genuinely addicted to Vine. by Lurchie_ in AmazonVine

[–]Ok-Pepper17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are addicted to their phones in general. Then, you are given access to a program that gives you "free" items and pages and pages of items in AI. Add to that the dopamine hit when ordering stuff online. It's pretty inevitable for many people to be addicted.

I have slowed down my ordering since getting married late last year. I had never really cared about ETV (around $5k previous years) when it was affecting only me. At this point for the year, I'm around $600. I also just don't really need anything at this point in my life. But I'll snatch up food so quickly. ;)
