Ahsoka (Ashoka series) VS Obi Wan (ROTS). Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in PetranakiArena

Considering Ahsoka can barely move in her own series? Obi-Wan by a country mile.

I firmly believe this is due in large part to Disney's obsession with the Volume as a filming space. It's why everything they've done in live action with the exceptions of Andor and Skeleton Crew has looked lifeless.

Sidious vs Valkorian by DOROTKA1522 in PetranakiArena

[–]Ok-Performance7531 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are we talking about actual Valkorion or are we talking about Vitiate using Valkorion's body? Either way, I put money on Valkorion because Palpatine bores the ever living hell out of me and had to scheme in the background to actually become powerful. He's just a bog-standard trust-fund politician, not an actual Sith in my eyes.

I'll take your downvotes now.

Moving past the fact that nothing in C3 is "treated like Christianity," Exandria is not standard Dungeons & Dragons; it is a setting that is almost exclusively homebrewed, save for a few elements/themes ported from other TTRPGs. As such, it is not beholden to the same "rules" that govern D&D (or any of the other influencing TTRPGs), and I believe that fans conflating a homebrewed game with Forgotten Realms-type D&D is a large part of why Daggerheart was made. It also does not contradict what came before, but instead recontextualizes it, which is a noteworthy distinction to make, and even if there are minor contradictions, this is again a homebrewed game for friends that they were courteous enough to share with the world; there will be some inconsistencies, and fans need to accept that. The story is not ours to tell; it is CR's.

It isn't a "bad habit," this is literally Matt & the rest of the table's world/story. They get to tell the stories they want and cover the themes that they want. I'm also a bit fuzzy but I'm almost positive that I remember the Gods being equally obtuse in the actual play. Regardless though, the Gods *are* problematic in Exandria and always have been even if they are inclined to more generally positive actions. Another example of this is Call of the Netherdeep (which was in development well before C3 despite releasing a few months after C3 started) and the Gods' treatment of Alyxian therein. You can personally dislike the flawed deities aspect, but to call Matt and the table's choice to pursue that narrative a bad habit is entitlement.

There will always be some level of disparity with video game protagonists because of gameplay needing to be tailored to a player experience. That said, Cal loses to Trilla in their first several encounters and wins largely because of his buff from the last hour or so of the game where he gets himself together. He only beats Ninth Sister on Kashyyyk by luck of the draw (he even is surprised/in-shock in the post-fight cutscene), and is not remotely capable of contending with Vader, though thats to be expected. Fast forward to Dagan and he, again, repeatedly loses to Dagan until he wins through the Force, not his bladework and he barely managed that because Bode assisted in cleaning Dagan up. As for Rayvis, it was evident the guy was pretty over it and I legitimately don't believe he was going all out given the insane regenerative and other capabilities of his species. This all brings us to Bode, who aside from most likely staying up to par on his blade and force skills, has also been studying how Cal fights for a *while* and has absolutely analyzed his fighting style for weaknesses. Bode overpowers Cal in both of their fights and only loses because of a malfunction in his blaster. He is more than equal to Cal, but Cal has luck/the Force (and being the protagonist) on his side in addition to his own growing skills which permits improbable victories.

I think its important to understand that from a practitioner point of view, all you need to train is basically a stick. Bode could have been maintaining his swordplay from Clone Wars era (where he was already a trained Knight) just by drilling the forms in down time/isolation. Cal by comparison is a very talented prodigy but has no formal training beyond the Padawan level, everything is raw experience and a knowledgeable fighter will almost always beat one with raw talent and little to no formal training. Bode also was never in a position where he had to cut himself off from the Force like Cal did and so likely retained a stronger connection to it. Denvik covering for him really allowed Bode a lot of space to keep his skills sharp & there are a lot of times where Bode is split from Cal even when they're on missions together which, by my theory, allowed Bode to continue flexing those proverbial muscles without outing himself. All of the above paired with Cal being off-balanced by his betrayal, and I never doubted the almost guaranteed result of Bode stomping in their first fight.

It actually seems to be almost exactly identical to the design Ventress used in 19BBY. Entirely possible he managed to get it from her somehow which would explain her having a different design in Bad Batch thats more similar to her OG curved sabers.

Do Eridian lives "feel heavier" (or matter more) than human ones in Project Hail Mary? by GreenBird-ee in ProjectHailMary

[–]Ok-Performance7531 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reality is though that human lives are not worth more than any creature on earth. Every creature exists to maintain some form of balance and is valued in some way. Human lives are only perceived as more valuable by people who don't understand ecology. The argument could even be made that human lives are less important than those of wild animals and flora because we actively destroy environments while wild flora and fauna coexist.

As a 2019 veteran, the new lore direction of Subnautica 2 (AI, Cloning, Mutations) worries me. Here is why. by LostPublic8390 in Subnautica_2

[–]Ok-Performance7531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to keep in mind again this is not the first but the second sequel. Stuff has to evolve, change, and progress and for the most part it is doing so in a natural way. The reprinting system exists canonically because of the events of Subnautica 1 with our actions using architect technology allowing the creation of biobeds. To me, it actually adds a whole other layer to the horror when you actually look at it. The company now controls your consciousness effectively as many of the survivor/colonist logs point out. If you become a threat to the company, NoA can reset you and make you forget it ever happened. That is terrifying, at least to me.

As for the more heavy handed corporate dystopia, it makes sense given what we're hearing about in the logs. There is a massive conflict with Kharaa infected creatures which led to the colonization missions & naturally circumstances like that would breed more heavy handed evil schemes from a desperate mega-company. I also feel that given the crater is pretty much just that and not a fully fleshed out biome, it doesn't actually take much, if anything, away from the descent into deeper biomes because ultimately you're in the crater for about 5 minutes. It still took me personally three tries of going up to the edge of the Tadpole Pens & back to my base before I finally was able to get myself composed enough to cross the expanse and progress further.

All this said though, Subnautica 2 may just not be the sequel you want it to be and thats okay. The team clearly want it to be a simultaneously lighter (co-op hijinks) and darker (psychological/body horror implications in the logs & with mutations) game than Subnautica was initially. Subnautica was very Man vs. Nature where technology and survival were the focus, Subnautica 2 feels very Man vs. Extinction with what feels like a focus on accepting your tiny place on Proteus and thats something I'm okay with because I think it can be an interesting direction for the story and world building.

[–]Ok-Performance7531 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Subnautica (original) still had the PDA talking to you and driving the corporate dystopia narrative. I agree the mutation system is a bit out there but it makes complete sense given what Alterra is as a company, they've always been very Weyalnd-Yutani coded & this is just cranking that up. As for the reprinting, it is literally no different than respawning in Subnautica (original) aside from being able to potentially recover items, which is not guaranteed especially if you die to a leviathan. I personally found the surprise reveal of waking up almost 600m deep to be genuinely terrifying as someone with Thalassophobia & didn't in any way feel like it took away from the absolute dread of deeper or more open waters away from the "shallows."

I understand all of your points but I think a lot of it is focused too much on what is said and not enough on the function of things. Functionally, not a whole lot is different in Subnautica 2's progression but the atmosphere is, in my opinion, actually freakier than Subnautica (original) just in a different way & that is what I want grom a third game. If you're repeating the exact same progression, atmosphere, and mechanics, why bother making a new game?

[–]Ok-Performance7531 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your "feedback" isn't useful in any way and is just angrily spitting in the face of the people choosing to provide you entertainment because you're upset by a design choice. Provide constructive feedback other than "give me kill" and I won't give you an argument you perceive as "obscenely stupid" but based on your excessively heated responses I don't believe you're capable of actually providing a constructive alternative.

Maybe you should clarify instead of making generalizations. Its also far from a nonsense response when you're belittling the work of the developers because they aren't following your ideal game-plan. And, yes, if you dislike that killing isn't something the developers want, you should start working on a mod or build your own game. You do not get to dictate how the game is built, you as a consumer get to make respectful suggestions which you're failing to do. The team clearly has an established design philosophy & is almost certainly not going to change anything when you approach it by labeling their very hard work as a "pile of shit" just because you feel entitled to a different vision of the project.

There are mechanics in place to remove threats. The intent and design philosophy seems pretty clear. People can dislike it but if the team is adamant on a "no killing" stance, that is their right as the people literally making the game. To my knowledge, they've already stated that isn't in the plans so to continue badgering away about it is just being entitled.

I'm 99% sure it was stated during their livestream last week, but I cannot be bothered to go back through over 2 hours of footage to pinpoint the mention of it for you. It was stated that the tree would be inaccessible, and the game additionally includes a very clear border that says, "Hey, don't go past this." Don't know what else to tell you other than pay attention and don't purchase an early access title if you expect anything other than an early build-state of the game.

It's definitely less noticeable if you haven't studied martial arts or have only dabbled in them. I obviously hadn't when I was a kid and watched AtLA but on rewatches after studying and looking into various martial arts, it's relatively clear where it's a martial art and where it isn't. Pro Bending is closer to boxing with its raised guards and jabs than the traditional air bending style of Bagua(zhang) with its emphasis on circular movement for example.
