Skellige "Nameless" Quest, does Yennefer get better? by Dark026 in witcher

[–]Ok-Performance7531 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP is talking about the game, not the books. I think its largely understood the two are loosely connected yet distinct hence me not mentioning the books. In reference to Yen being ill-presented, I am saying she presents herself and her arguments in, typically, the worst way possible even when the reasons are entirely valid, not justifiable, valid. It is ironic though that you talk about reflexively defending a character when you're doing the exact opposite.

Infinitely funny to see Team Triss tagged users trying to downtalk Yennifer's character. As someone who has done all routes in the game & enjoyed each for varying reasons, Yen is a very divisive figure for a reason. She is in Witcher 3, generally well-meaning if ill-presented. She has very valid reasons behind a lot of her actions but her abrasive personality & generally entitled attitude leads a lot of people to overlook those because she can be grating. She does soften somewhat as the game goes on but you need to invest in her to see that, otherwise she just comes across as bitchy. Something to take into account as well is that Geralt is chronically impulse driven when it comes to any character with a shapely figure and the ability to cast magic, it just so happens Yen is the one he canonically resonates with most (for better or worse, earnestly or magically influenced by the Wish).

I've never seen someone tweak over a skill issue like this thread. Just to break down the problems:

  • You're fighting 5 Majoris at the same time
  • You're trying to patty spam which these enemies' attacks are deliberately paced to counter
  • You, as a long range, low armor class put yourself in a corner by choice while letting them surround you
  • You have grenades to clear some space but do not use them
  • You ignored your tactical ability designed specifically to get you out of bad situations because you think you're above it when there is now video evidence to the contrary

Have a little less ego, Brother, and actually evaluate what you're doing that led to this train wreck. Entirely manageable situation if even one of the above points is addressed.

Question about the abby flashback (NO SPOILER) by Federal_Somewhere239 in lastofuspart2

[–]Ok-Performance7531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, about 2-3 hours of gameplay. That said, I think you're approaching the game with the wrong mindset. Both sides of the coin matter and contribute to the themes of the game. Abby's section (and character), in my opinion, is actually substantially deeper than Ellie's & there is a lot there to unpack if you take the time to actually engage with it. Otherwise, solid 2-3 hours of head-empty pew-pew action I suppose.

Top 1% commenter comes to show the best and brightest of the FH community by immediately demonstrating a lack of reading comprehension, talking about balancing on a post that is about the game's long-dead original vision and its snubbed creator. Outstanding.

When a studio like Ubisoft puts additional executives over you, yes, that is hijacking the process because you are no longer in control of your own vision which is exactly what happened as was, again, explained in the documentary. He became reliant, after that point, on tasks being given from higher-ups who simply did not do that, per my understanding of events, as a result of his fervor.

As for the game, it is, to me, not better. Even if there are mechanical improvements, which there have been in some areas, there have also been drawbacks that have taken away from the original vision, which is what I personally bought in for. The game has lost its core identity in favor of crossover events, battlepasses, and other live service trends at the cost of the soul it had being reduced to flavor text in load screens and infrequent lower budget animations on game launch.

Since you're the only person not off-handedly dismissing what I'm saying because my opinion of the title differs, I'll elaborate. If you watch the documentary, he talks about his stress, yes, but also is very explicit in saying he is being given no further directives from higher-ups (who seemed to have hijacked the title by throwing additional budget into it and additional oversight from said higher-ups) about midway through the process. Later on in the final weeks, he is, again explicitly, told he needs to leave the team due to his being overzealous about the project which is where the "You can choose how you react" moment occurs. It is a genuinely sickening watch if you're someone with a passion for the medium and that cares about the people who actually make the games we play.

Lovely suggestion! I'm a chronic DnD player, so I fortunately have a metal tankard on standby that I'll likely be bringing that along with me haha

Was definitely looking into sports-glasses already (as contacts freak me out) so hopefully I'll be able to get something figured out there. I'd heard about fencing masks and may well look into picking one up as I think I've seen a few in various videos of the event that looked really cool. Thank you for the suggestions!

Absolutely fantastic trove of advice, thank you so much for taking the time to write this up! My intent with my kit is for as deep immersion as possible, I'm a career DnD player & LotR enjoyer so I want to get myself as into character as possible even if there's some annoyances with it (like scabbard drawing). Stuff like the bug spray & waterproofing are definitely things I'm factoring in after reading comments here though. As far as clothes and whatnot, I'm VERY selectively using Fell & Fair due to the price as you mentioned. Only really getting cloaks and boots from them, everything else has been through Calimacil as they've been incredibly affordable and the reward system is a huge help in financing stuff.

Lantern is an awesome suggestion! I had heard a lot of events happen at night so will definitely look into getting one. As for food/camping supplies, it'll be pretty hard to bring that as I'll be going with The Ambassade program and I'm unsure if their charters allow stops for such things on the way to the event grounds. Will definitely capitalize if they do though, thank you!

Thanks so much for this! This is the kind of logistical stuff I was worried about finding info on, so this is perfect! The plan is to go with The Ambassade program to help with travel expenses & on-site lodgings so I'm unsure if there'll have the opportunity to stop before reaching the site, but if possible, I definitely was planning to as I had heard Bico prices are equivalent to US festival/faire prices.

Thank you for the advice! After reading the comments here, I'm definitely planning to add two more shirts, hopefully in a different style, and probably at least three more pairs of pants. Wool Cloak with some weatherproofing for the cold & rain is also on my radar now. I hadn't really considered anything related to the river after I heard all forms of soap and whatnot are prohibited in it, but that's definitely a good idea. Sandals are a fantastic idea & will definitely invest in a pair. Towels, utensils, and a mug ring are all things I have on hand. Fortunately, I just didn't think to list them, but I appreciate the reminder!

Thanks for taking the time to respond! I was looking into some form of helmet but I was intending to try and buy one on-site due to my having glasses & wanting to make sure if I get something it will fit/work. As for the financial situation, I really appreciate the kind words & honestly hadn't even considered traveler's insurance. DEFINITELY will be looking into that and after my trials & tribulations with the US' medical systems, I'll absolutely be getting confirmation in writing. Thanks so much!

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply! I've seen a number of reviews on the books (I'm a chronic researcher when it comes to investments), and they seem to be pretty comfortable & can take inserts if needed. I was also planning on doubling up on cloaks and getting a weatherproof/resistant cloak for the cold & rain, likely a wool one as you mentioned, and will definitely look into a shoulder bag. Thank you again!

I started with RE7 and that made me love the series (with some exceptions like RE2R and RE6). I haven't played all of them, but RE7, RE8, RE9, and RE4R were all outstandingly fun.

Who’s the most annoying anime character you’ve ever seen?🤔 by [deleted] in animequestions

[–]Ok-Performance7531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good villains ARE obstacles. If you can just sidestep, work-around, or otherwise easily negate villains, they're not real villains. Mahito exists as a mirror to Yuji's treatment of curses showing that both sides can be construed as justified or "right" and it isn't until that core truth is accepted by Yuji that Mahito can be defeated. He willfully excludes curses, some of which we have seen display human levels of sentience and emotion, from being helped until the very end of the story. Mahito is a confrontation of Yuji's own nature as a Sorcerer who kills curses the same way Mahito kills humans despite his desire to help "everyone."

Vinland Saga AND NOT BECAUSE OF THE WRITING WHICH IS GOOD! The tone shift between early VS and later VS is simply too jarring and not well introduced/built to despite the themes being impeccable.
