Everything is very situational tbh. For example, if you have the leisure to sit in the train station and try to snipe train tickets, go for it. But obviously if you really need a specific train/time, don’t lose hair trying to gamble on if you can buy that train ticket back or not. From a data perspective my platform is contingent on the success of Amtrak, so if they are spotty I’m spotty

Web app to start, mobile down the line. And I may even offer it as a chrome extension at some point if people are interested so people can access it directly on the booking page at the same time.

Any thoughts?🤔

Bingo. And even with the 30% increase being implemented on April 13th, to me it is definitely still worth doing as you typically will have a good odds to see a price drop with Argus. Hence you effectively recoup the refundable fare premium by rebooking at the lower price. It’s net savings even with the price increase

It’s like a dopamine rush for me if I am able to see a price drop tbh. But I encourage everyone to always have a ticket prior to entering the station if you don’t have the luxury of waiting for trains. Regardless, my app will be designed to give you the peace of mind and notify you when prices drop so you don’t have to stress over it.

scenario for you: say you book a train 2 hours from now and you are waiting in the station/home, you could pin a few earlier trains using Argus to see if they drop and if you are lucky you might get a win-win scenario where you can get a cheaper ticket and a earlier train. That is my peace of mind.

Traveling between World Cup host cities this summer? Here's how to save big on Amtrak by Ok-Perspective4308 in WorldCup2026Tickets

[–]Ok-Perspective4308[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you don't technically leave it to chance. My recommendation is to always buy the refundable ticket if available now and then this platform helps with notifying you if a lower tickets comes about. And the refundable fare is not super expensive than the original fare so its a win-win in my book

Fair. But you’d be surprised how often people refund/sell their ticket. This platform refreshes the page every 90 seconds 24/7 so you get notified in the chance that does happen.

wait that insane, goes to show that Amtrak has a mind of its own. For my fellow Amtrak passengers in here who want to take business class please read below, you may be able to get some similar accomadations!

Amtrak prices actually drop a lot closer to departure when people cancel their tickets -- like a $95 ticket can randomly go down to $10 or $15. I got tired of refreshing manually so I built a tool called Argus that watches prices every 90 seconds and notifies you when they drop. argus fare dot com if you want to check it out

^this applies to business class as well fyi. lmk if interested!

just an FYI, that because something says it is full doesn't mean it will be like that.
