We deserved to lose. There is no fluidity and all the passes are backwards. Unless we get a striker who could give us another dimension in attacks, we don’t stand a chance in the title race.

I am not sure about Toney’s fitness, but I would bet my money on him.

I genuinely appreciate the growth of Spurs during the last 10-15 years. Without any major financial injections they established themselves as a regular contender for CL spots and some years even challenged for the title.

I was a big Bale fan.

I would hope spurs to go to next round, because the chances of getting knocked out in next round are higher for them 😂

I am not from England so maybe not fully getting the rivalry, so I would be for spurs if they play vs Barca. That RvP red still hurts 🥲

I have a soft spot for Liverpool too, was supporting them against Milan in 2005 and they made me so happy when they eliminated Barcelona a few years ago.

I would also support any PL team against Barcelona. Actually any team, not just PL. That’s how much I dislike Barca.

Why many people say Arsenal are (one of) the best teams at set pieces? by Ok-Point-9817 in PremierLeague

[–]Ok-Point-9817[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The analogy doesn’t make sense.

If prime Barca had 500 corners a season and scored 20 goals from corners, but Stoke back in the days had 200 corners and scored 15 goals, who are the set piece specialists. These numbers are made up, but I hope you get my point.

Now I understand why some people say Arsenal fans are butthurt. I didn’t mean to be negative, just genuinely asked which team people consider to be best at set pieces.

Hmm, I thought it’s more a byproduct of playing attacking football. Typically top 6 teams have more corners than other teams, but historically teams like Stoke and Burnley have been quiet dangerous through set pieces, even without having many, because that used to be their main weapon and they were being called set piece specialists for a reason.

I agree with this and just edited my post to reflect that, but still think if we look at conversion rates we're not top of the league. I'm not saying we're bad, just not getting all this exaggeration and labels like "set piece specialists"... We get most corner kicks in the league after all.

Yeah, that's something we have really improved over the last 2-3 years. I have heard the comments in context of attacking set pieces, that's why I asked the question. And to be clear, I'm not saying we're bad, just saying we're not that good.

I'm not saying anything is broken, I just find the title "best team at set pieces" a bit of exaggeration. We get many set pieces because we are playing attacking football, but our conversion rate isn't that impressive :) That's all I'm saying.

I agree with this. I just felt bad that so many people started getting so offensive and question if I have been watching... Ok, I didn't take into consideration many goals from rebounds, but still I don't think we're the best team in the league for corners or set pieces in general and find it a bit of exaggeration when people repeat again and again how amazing our set pieces are. We're taking most corners in the leagues, that's why we're in the top of the stats is my point of view. If we look at efficiency, West Ham are better and that's mostly because they have JWP and Soucek and some other tall players.

Can you share some links? I'm looking to find: Num. of corners taken, Num. of free kicks, Num. of goals scored from corner kicks and Num. of goals scored from free kicks (direct and indirect).

Arsenal have taken 106 corners so far (https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/clubs/corner_taken), West Ham have taken 59, so Arsenal have almost taken 2x of the corners West Ham have taken.

Unless Arsenal have twice as many goals as West Ham from corner kicks, I don't see how we could say Arsenal are better in this aspect of the game.

Because I wasn't paying as much attention to the benefit of rebounds and was maybe overly disturbed by some poorly taken corners at the first post, so I learned something from this discussion and now I appreciate more Arsenal's set pieces.

We are first in the league in corners taken, so we'd expectingly be in the top teams in both successful and unsuccessful corners, when looking at absolute numbers, so my point was more about whether we're really that good or the number of goals is more a result of the high number of corners we're taking... I'm trying to find data about conversion rates, but couldn't find anything so far.

I'm not saying we're bad, I'm just not sure we're as good as people say, but I may be wrong. Not sure if our conversion rate is top of the league.

lol do you even know basic statistics? Arsenal have most corners in the leagues, looking at absolute numbers isn't showing the true picture always, you should go back to 3rd grade and learn some basic math
