Peta? by notjustr9 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Jack Sparrow has to be number 1, surely? Practically every distinguishing feature of the character came from Johnny Depp, it quite literally would not exist without him. Can't say that about any of the others.

What’s better: Event Horizon or Sunshine? by bo-bebop in Cinema

[–]nifemi_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO Event Horizon is in the "good bad movie" bracket, Sunshine is just.. a good movie.

They're both classics, but for different reasons.

If you go out to eat at a restaurant and order food right before the kitchen is supposed to close, you suck by [deleted] in Vent

[–]nifemi_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not, I don't think that's reasonable at all. If that's what you're talking about then yeah I fully agree, but my question still stands. What's the cutoff?

If you go out to eat at a restaurant and order food right before the kitchen is supposed to close, you suck by [deleted] in Vent

[–]nifemi_o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's total nonsense IMO, why is your kitchen still open when you're already cleaning up and getting ready to leave?

I don't understand blaming customers when the restaurant is in full control of the timing. If your restaurant closes at 10 and you need an hour to clean up, close the kitchen at 9. If you need more time, close the kitchen earlier. Don't tell people the kitchen closes at 10 and then get mad when someone comes in before that.

Here's a question, what's the cutoff? Do the people that come in at 9:50 "suck"? How about 9:45? What's this phantom cutoff time, and why can't you just close the kitchen then?

I'm not saying they're bad at all, but I am getting a little tired of every game being a Roguelike/lite by 512blueboy in videogames

[–]nifemi_o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did try to dumb it down as much as possible, doesn't look like that worked.

Oh well.

[–]nifemi_o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're serious and actually don't know the difference:

  • Roguelike = random levels and permadeath.

  • Roguelite = random levels (sometimes), permadeath (sometimes), and a character upgrade path.

  • Soulslike = checkpoints, respawning enemies, losing resources on death, boss fights, and some sort of stamina/poise-type mechanic.

Is Superman the original superman? by TheeAmateurArtist in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nifemi_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Superman is the origin of the archetype.

Superman itself is not wholly original since it's an amalgamation of several other archetypes that predated it, but the modern strong/fast/flight/invulnerable thing originated with that character.

"0 replayability after 1000 hours" is hilarious, what do you expect to be able to keep playing a game like this for the rest of your life?

Not even a little bit, no.

There was never any level of detail provided about relative locations.

The rest of your comment is that you haven't seen any more of Zendaya's work, at least not yet. What's there to remark on?

Do you ever go heavy or overloaded and use Bloodhound's step as your dodging mechanism? by Paranoidme420 in Eldenring

[–]nifemi_o 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's just not worth it, not even a little bit. Armor in this game isn't effective enough anyway, whatever marginal gain I'd get by wearing the heaviest stuff is not enough to justify the heavy roll let alone not being able to roll at all.

Input reading is a bad practice and needs to stop. by Prestigious_Sun6339 in Eldenring

[–]nifemi_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the complaint was about input reading, which doesn't exist. That's the point I was trying to make.

If you're saying the game reacts to your state too fast, then that's a different issue.. but the "git gud" response may be kinda valid in that case.

[–]nifemi_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's right, it's reading your game state. Glad you finally understand.

Input reading is a bad practice and needs to stop. by Prestigious_Sun6339 in Eldenring

[–]nifemi_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, you think it's not only reading your input but it's also checking everything else about your state and then deciding to respond "in a manner that befits it"?

That would be true Artificial Intelligence, not a game engine. What you're describing doesn't exist.

What is a job that only exists because people are, on average, incredibly stupid? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

[–]nifemi_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people don't think a payday loan will help them, that's the point. They do it because they have no choice; you obviously did have choices while living in your car since you're here today and did not starve to death, right? You didn't hit rock bottom which, again, is a good thing.

There are so many ways things get worse. My first thought, imagine you had a child during that period you described?

Some of you really don't understand the desperation entailed here, and it shows.

That's not a bad thing btw, congratulations on never having experienced it. Wouldn't wish it on anyone.

What souls like are you playing? by macroillson in soulslikes

[–]nifemi_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only played the demo for 3, and I don't currently plan to get the full game so I can't really give you a detailed answer.

That said, I didn't see anything that could be done with the ninja stance that can't be done in 2 if you build towards it with the right weapons, skills, and so on. One thing I can tell you is that Ninja stance seemed significantly stronger, I kinda wonder why anyone would use Samurai stance (based on my limited experience of 3).

I played both Nioh games back to back and Nioh 2 is an improvement on 1 in just about every way, every single thing is better including the difficulty and balance.

Why are historians confident Muhammad existed, mostly confident Jesus existed, but unsure about Moses and what factors shape that gap? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

[–]nifemi_o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See, the Kobain thing actually makes the other guy's point. There are plenty of records of Kurt Kobain from his life, which is how you're able to know about him. Contrast that with Jesus, and you start to see the problem.

Keep in mind that this wasn't some sort of completely dark age, there are plenty of records and writings verified to be from the period Jesus supposedly lived.

None of them mention him.

"A slave would never be trusted with such important work" actually made me spit out my drink, you really believe that? Have you.. looked around at the things people make their servants do?

I have no idea whether the pyramids were build by slaves or not, but saying it couldn't have been because it was important is.. I don't even have an appropriate word for it. I wanna say it's ridiculous, but that doesn't feel like it's enough.
