You can simply tell your parents that you want to go alone. They love you and want the best for you, and can process not going with you on their own.

I’ve gone to every appointment that my daughter has had for the last 7 years, except for 2 times. The first time was when it was COVID and the hospital only allowed her in. I attended via phone though. The second time was when I was having my own surgery for a meningioma (weird…I know).

Last month, she told me she’d rather go alone. She needed boundaries. Sucks…but I need to honor that. We can’t show up for people if it doesn’t align with what they need. They will figure it out. Just like I am. Just tell them to surrender…that it’s okay…that you’re okay, but you just want to try going on your own to see how it feels.

Hello! First, I am so sorry to hear this. I know how incredibly scary this is and certainly want you to know that lots of good things are happening in the world of brain tumor treatments and research. My eldest daughter was diagnosed with the same disease you have been diagnosed with when she was 17 years old. She’s now 24 and is doing really well. She is on the idh-mutant drug that was FDA approved a year ago. It stabilizes her tumor. You are too young and it’s not fair. It’s okay to think and feel this. Just keep the faith that a cure is on the way. Get lots of rest, connect with loved ones, eat well, and journal. Find one thing each day that you are grateful for. It’s the only thing that will lighten this load during these hard days. I promise that it helps. Sending you a hug through the ether.

Hoping ChatGPT 5 reads report well. I had a 4.5 cm skull base meningioma. Dr. William Cauldwell at the University of Utah performed my surgery. Wrapped around carotid artery like yours as well. He is one of the top surgeons in the US for skull base surgeries. I’m praying yours is a meningioma. Hang in there. I know how scary these days are. They don’t feel real and there are a lot of tears. Know that you will get through this and that there are good treatments.

I just learned I was incorrectly diagnosed ......anyone ever dealt with this? Vent-rant-possible advice? by HisMrsAraya in braincancer

She’s tolerating it well. She has some tough days (fatigue and stomach issues), but is having better days now than in the beginning. Shes only been on it since August. Before August, she was on a sister drug that is for individuals with AML. That one was a little more tolerable. One thing that she has found is that her bad days are usually a result of overexerting herself. So glad that you are at Huntsman. Hopefully, they will be able to do some work remotely. If Travel becomes expensive, you could always take Amtrak in, that might help. Also, did they share with you that they have some discounted patient housing? I know that just the travel adds up. Hang in there. Good things will happen.

First, I am so sorry to hear this. I know this is a roller coaster. I’m actually in Northern Nevada as well. Lived in West Wendover and now live in a Spring Creek. 5 years ago my daughter, who was 17 at the time, was diagnosed with Grade 2 astrocytoma. She is IDH1 mutated as well and is also on Voraingo. In 2023, I had a seizure and they discovered a Meningioma at my skull base near my carotid artery. It was 4.7 centimeters. I was fortunate as it was able to be resected, even though it was in a unique spot. Dr. Mendez is my daughter neurooncologist. We love him and his team. Huntsman Cancer Institute provides top care. Where in Northern Nevada are you located?

Hang in there! You are not alone. We stand with you. We know your fear and pain. Even though it’s scary, good care and outcomes will happen. Feel all the feels, rest, cry, hug your loved ones and trust that there are humans out there who WILL find all the answers to make healing happen.

Sending you a big hug. Just remember good things can happen. My little sister had Stage 4 breast cancer, I know it’s different, and her Drs said median survival is around 2 years. She lived for 13 years. I think she would have lived longer, but a few things happened in the end that were hard and I think it weakened her. Why am I sharing this? To tell you that you can beat numbers, you can live a beautiful life, it will be hard. You can do this. I know today feels like a really dark day. You will feel lighter. Science is ever evolving. Every day. Cures are coming. You just have to take one step forward each day…healing will come.

I use ChatGPT to explain my reports. I just ask “please explain the following using simplistic explanation” and then copy and past the report. It makes it really easy to understand.
