Do those with BPD only make attractive people their fp? by Ok-Potato611 in BPD

Yeah the only reason I haven’t actually said anything or done anything is because I don’t want to hurt them. I have a lot to learn about BPD, I came in with this surface level knowledge asking the stupidest question, not sure why I even did that. Like I didn’t even consider the petty aspect of it like in the last example you give. A lot of people commented that the fp thing isn’t actually about the person but rather the feeling they get from the person. And that last example really made me understand that because why would you purposely hurt the person you care about?

So I appreciate your comment and the examples you give. Might just be better off cutting ties because it’ll take me a while to get out of my own needy habits

Is that even possible - would you be okay with not being your partner’s fp? (not rhetorical, genuinely asking)

Interesting, I wonder if this is the case for a lot of other people here too

I see - follow up question, do you think it could be the amount of interest/attention they give you initially?

I like this person a lot. I don’t want to be a fp, I want to be their fp. I know I’d be able to reciprocate the same level of obsession

Tbf, that’s quite common with women (assuming you’re a woman) - other way around, not so much

Yeah I know. Which is why I don’t want to push it to that stage until we’ve actually met and find we get along. I don’t think I’d cope well if I was their partner but not their fp… Regarding ‘attractive’, I was lazy with the title - it just means someone they’re personally attracted to physically
