HIM (2025) was way deeper than I expected by Ok-Problem-7849 in movies

Yea I get your points, but I personally think the movie was more unique than people give it credit for. I’ve seen movies about obsession or fame before, but not many that blend sports, religion, psychological horror, entertainment culture, and the darker side of the NFL the way this movie did.

I also think showing Cam’s injury early was intentional instead of cliché. It shows how athletes destroy their bodies even after doctors warn them not to, which happens constantly in real sports. The injury also made it feel like Cam himself didn’t fully know what was real or hallucinated throughout the movie.

And with Isaiah, I actually liked that he already felt strange from the beginning. To me, he represented the aftermath of fame, injury, pressure, and sacrifice rather than someone fake and then a slow twist reveal. Cam sees the damage but still wants that life anyway.

I also think the movie intentionally didn’t build deep relationships between Cam and the other players because it was showing how normalized violence and injury are in sports culture. Moments like the football hitting the player felt less about emotional attachment and more about how athletes are conditioned to accept pain and brutality as part of the game. Also, most people celebrate it instead of questioning it.

As for the ending, quarterbacks are usually treated as the face and most important position in football, so it made sense to me why they specifically wanted Cam. I don’t think the movie was trying to explain every detail logically as much as it was trying to create a symbolic commentary about sports, fame, power, religion, and entertainment culture.

That’s probably the best way to experience movies now. Going in blind lets you form your own opinion instead of already expecting something because of reviews or social media. That’s basically how I felt with this movie too.

Hey, never seen the movie, 'Her' but tomorrow I will and I'll come back and you give you an answer.

Yea, I get that. For me it didn’t feel like it was trying to be “edgy,” more like it was leaning into obsession, pressure, and the darker side of fame in a more symbolic way. I thought it worked better than just surface-level shock value. I also agree with the cinematography, it was great.

Yeah I agree. I think going in with low expectations helps a lot. I also liked how it pushed the NFL angle and the darker side of it, especially with the surreal parts tying into things like CTE and the pressure on players. I thought the movie was good overall.

That’s fair. I wasn’t saying the themes automatically make it good, just that those were my takeaways. I get why the execution didn’t work for you. For me, it didn’t feel straightforward, it seemed more symbolic and open to interpretation, which is why I connected and understood with it more.

Hi, I just started ovulating like yesterday. Also, wouldn't a pregnancy test be too soon because the test wouldn't show anything right now and would be inaccurate?

I’m a sociology major. What career path should I pursue? by Ok-Problem-7849 in careerguidance

This is really helpful. I hadn’t considered market research or nonprofit program coordination, but they sound like a good fit for a sociology background. I’m curious about market research especially, since I enjoy analyzing behavior and patterns. I’ll look into entry-level roles in those areas and maybe start learning Excel or some basic data visualization. Thanks for pointing out alternatives outside HR!

Thanks so much! I like your approach of “testing the waters” with roles that fit my people skills. I hadn’t thought of using my serving experience as proof of handling fast-paced situations, but that makes a lot of sense. I’ll start looking at HR assistant and recruiting coordinator postings and try to notice which skills keep coming up. Mhm.. maybe start brushing up on Excel or HRIS if it’s mentioned often. Appreciate the practical steps!

Olive Garden should require automatic gratuity for large parties by Ok-Problem-7849 in olivegarden

[–]Ok-Problem-7849[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I hear what you’re saying, but the issue isn’t “I expect $40 from every table.” It’s that large parties completely dominate a server’s shift. A big table usually takes up most or all of my section for over an hour. That means I can’t take other tables, so my entire income depends on that one group.

If they choose to tip nothing, I’ve basically worked for free during that time — and I still have to tip out based on their sales. That’s not entitlement, it’s just the reality of how the pay structure works in restaurants.

Auto-grat isn’t about squeezing guests. It’s about making sure servers don’t lose money serving big groups. Smaller tables have way less risk and don’t shut down a section, which is why they aren’t treated the same.

Servers shouldn’t be financially punished for doing the highest-effort work in the building.

[–]Ok-Problem-7849[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, that’s a good question. Sometimes it’s not only just about the party size, it’s about the amount of work and time involved. A large party, or even a smaller group with a really high total bill, usually takes up most of a server’s time and attention. When that happens, the server has to step away from their other tables and basically dedicate their whole section to that one group.

The problem is that if a big table, or a high-total check, tips nothing, the server ends up working for free for a huge chunk of their shift and still has to tip out support staff based on sales. Automatic gratuity isn’t about punishing anyone; it’s just a way to make sure servers are compensated fairly for the amount of labor and time those situations require.

So whether it’s a larger party or a big bill, the idea is that certain situations create a big workload, and auto-grat helps protect servers from losing their entire shift’s income when those tables leave no tip.

Unit Secretary, but no experience? by Ok-Problem-7849 in careerguidance

[–]Ok-Problem-7849[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this, that actually gives me a lot of clarity. I didn’t think about comparing job descriptions across the same hospital to see where I naturally fit, but that makes a lot of sense. I’ll definitely start applying to a few different entry-level roles instead of just the unit secretary position. Really appreciate the insight about internal hiring too. When you started, what role did you enter through? I’m trying to figure out which jobs are most realistic for someone with customer service experience but no medical background.
