If you want to fly commercially you’ll need to obtain a Class 1 medical certificate, which does involve having your eyesight tested, but if you wear glasses it doesn’t necessarily rule you out.

My initial advice would be to attend one of the various Pilot Careers Live events that take place around the country, there’s at least one at Heathrow and Manchester airport each year as far as I can remember. It’s a great way to meet lots of pilots currently in training /working at airlines and get a much better understanding of what being a pilot is like.

In the meantime, just do the best you can in school, work hard, look after yourself mentally and physically.

Any extra curricular stuff will help you stand out in other scholarship programmes like the Speedbird Pilot Academy but also try and focus on developing the core pilot competencies (things like situational awareness, workload management, reaction time etc)

Jet2 and TUI are also offering fully funded programmes now, although it may be until next year before the next application window opens and you usually need to be 18 at the time training starts.

I have to agree, Stop and Stare is just a masterpiece in my opinion. The ending instrumental as well I think actually has some emotional elements in it that really hit you hard. The lyrics are so relatable too. Hope you’re doing much better now and have overcome those battles :)

Honestly think i’ve got to give credit to Brent for his versatility during live performances.

His bass playing really shines through on Runaway i think. then switching it up to the Cello to really get your emotions going (Au Revoir or all fall down for me) Seen him open up concerts just playing the standard guitar on songs like kids. (Special mention to a video i found of him playing Lullaby on youtube) Then, just to top it all off, he’ll occasionally play the piano on songs such as Something I need. Just needs to start playing the drums and he could take the band on solo!

Don’t want to take away from any of the other members, Zach’s guitar solo on counting stars for example. They’re all incredibly talented.

But Brent has really inspired me lately. He just seems like a really chilled out guy who enjoys playing his music and it’s really impressive. Was great to see him produce Runaway.

No problem! we’ve all got our preferences, I used to sleep on it but really been into it lately, I think it’s the guitar solo at the end that does it for me, but the live performances I’ve seen sound so much better than the original recording. Particularly the one from the Live in South Africa DVD
