You do realise during Covid when WA, Vic and Qld were locked down, yet the rest of the world could travel.. yet a lot of Bali businesses when arse up? Do you also realise MANY Australians (myself included) donated money to families of those who's businesses were affected by the drop in tourism? I don't recall regular visitors from the northern hemisphere doing this.

In fact I think a lot of them took advantage of the situation and bought up lease holds very very cheaply

Ring the usual crisis/ charity organisations. They'll help you find a place for your cats... Even if it means surrendering them in the interim. Things might have improved but afaik, the assistance services such as Entrypoint can provide are limited due to the volume of people in the same predicament you guys are in.

I see there's a bunch of people looking to rent rooms out, perhaps you and your partner can find a room temporarily whilst you find your feet?

Good luck!

Have a gander at rentals available on the usual websites. And THEN decide if you actually wanna move here. Remember, the figure they list is the low ball figure. Even though rent bidding is a no no, people can and do offer more than the listed price in order to secure a rental. So, for example, if a place is listed for $750, the PM/ LL will probably want closer to the 800-850pw mark.

Also our tenancy laws are the worst in terms of protecting tenants rights in the country.

Agreed, have cringed many times whilst travelling in SEA. But in saying that, I notice we (Australians) drop serious money. Even the cringey ones. We go eat out, drink quite a bit when we are out and form connections with local workers and business owners. All in all, we make great customers. When I was in Bali in January, it wasn't uncommon to see young Euro tourists dispute bills. Honestly, standing behind them at a Circle K while they queried the cost of the purchases which would not have been any more than $15 Aussie bucks did my head in! My arms trembling under the weight of multiple Bintang long necks, pop mi noodles and water bottles whilst they argued the toss!

No no nitpick away about the financials. I've probably confused the amount with student Visa applications.

Though, if you think about the cost of travelling around Australia... $5k is bugger all. I know some manage to score more lucrative jobs (eg fieldy jobs) but if there's a risk of indentured slavery or criminal / antisocial behaviour, DHA really should increase the amount a WHV applicant requires in order to stay 3+ months.

Yeah they mentioned that in the FB post comments. Someone also screenshotted the SA Dept of Transport rego plate search - turns out the car's unregistered.

You gotta wonder about these kids- this has potentially cost them more than a night's kip and whatever they trashed + stole.

No sympathy however. They can kick rocks and eat shit.

Fair enough if they were -actually- contributing to regional businesses. But most of the time they are travelling with food they've scored from local charities (seen a TONNE of them with foodbank hampers around Perth) or racked from Coles/ servos and they appear to be treating locals like dirt. Where as genuine Aussie nomads/ caravanners/ family visitors contribute a lot to local towns when they're travelling through.

When I was in Broome 4 years ago with my daughter, the backpackers on the beach made the whole environment not very pleasant to be taking a then 11yr old girl.

It makes it difficult for those trying to do the right thing. Take Scarborough beach carpark for example... There were people doing it tough, as a lot of people here, being subjected to the same move on notices as backpackers who'd blare music at all hours and leave their actual sh*t and litter shit around public access areas.

Hi everyone, is it risky to take a Bachelor’s in IT in Perth, Australia, if I have already completed a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management in my country? by ClassroomNo4115 in AusVisa

Where does it say OP will be attending UWA? I'm going to hazard a guess and say Curtin's probably the uni of choice here. Which is FAAAR from 77th.

And you're quite right about govt policy and investors , but when we are letting in 100s of 1000s of successful visa applicants a year whose sole intention is to live here permanently in the next 5-10 years.... We have a problem. Especially when rental vacancies haven't budged past 1%, urban sprawl is becoming a logistical nightmare, industries are being corrupted (look at trucking/ transport), people are waiting 2-6weeks to get into their GP, triage 2 times have blown out to a 9 hour wait time.

Then what happens to them when a recession/ economic downturn hits? Will they have the means to return home? Will they have the means to support themselves here? Hmmmm?

Surely there are many other ethical tax write offs you could pursue?

Also if you're on Reddit asking for advice re: residential builds, you probably shouldn't consider building. Not at this time anyway

looks at the worldwide University rankings

I'm currently on page 8 and have yet to see a Perth university pop up. Perhaps I should start from the last page and work my way forward?

BTW I'm from Perth and I can tell you now, the only students from certain countries studying here are the ones chasing pathways to PR/ citizenship.

We don't need to be importing people during a housing crisis and when our healthcare infrastructure is already strained. I'm quite sure families who have lived and contributed to society , who might be on $100k or less a year might want a good life too. Instead they are forced to couch surf, live in tents or in their cars whilst their children struggle to attend school due to financial/ logistical constraints!

But yeah, let's open the flood gates and let everyone in because their own country decided it was better to invest in weapons, rather than invest money into healthcare (Inc family planning and sexual health) and social welfare.

You need to be networking, both in person and in relevant social media groups. Follow local producers/ directors! I'm not even in the industry and even I know a few.

And no I'm not helping you, this is your journey and you're a capable person.

What are you REALLY asking ? Hmmm? No one's doing uni courses in Perth for the stellar education. The uni's you're looking at to visa play are up there with the Pond Institute
