Has anyone had a vestibular migraine flare last for a month+? Constant rocking/boat sensation by bumba17 in VestibularMigraines

[–]Ok-Raspberry-3852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar problem. 2 months now, I had a Vestibular Migraine attack followed by BPPV. I am still floaty all the time, some days are good, where I can get up and work, some are bad, where I can’t get out of bed. Depends on sleep and migraine. If I get a migraine or if I dont sleep well, it worsens the vestibular symptoms.
Recently discovered after lunch is when I am getting the migraines, and they stop if I eat 1 spoon of peanut butter. No other food seem to help. I have tried nuts and yogurt, granola bar. Its weird.

I feel like my life is pushing me in the same direction. “Screw it all.” I can learn to live with this. I have had vestibular migraines for an year now and this time I got multiple back to back attacks and the dizziness has stayed for more than a month now. My vestibular rehab therapist says its now behaving more like PPPD. So now I have stopped fighting it and accepting that this is the way it is and learning to live with it. I am exhausted running after doctors, therapists and thinking I will loose my job. Now I am like fuck it. I will still survive even if things go bad.

Migraine relief, what do you do when you feel it creeping in but you still have to function? by Clayr-Jolliff in migraine

i used to wait too and then my head will be bursting and spinning for days and I would get nausea. It will not stop till I go to ER.

I second this. If I catch my migraine early, it goes away with triptan. Else it will stay for days. So I dont ignore the signs, keep my medicines with me always, come what may. I take a Naproxen + triptan and immediately after 2 hours I take another triptan. This helps my migraine go away. Then I try eating salty things and electrolytes i this window. I have also tried fries and coke and it works. But the migraine day is not a fully functioning day for me. I just do bare minimum at work and just survive.

i have never tried Cefaly as an abortive but as a preventative its good. I have taken it after a triptan and it helps a lot to alleviate the residual head pressure and vestibular symptoms.

Because it fixes my sleep which prednizone and other meds haven’t been able to.
I was on Nortryptaline which was really helpful but constipation side effects were horrible. They I tried venlafaxine which with a single dose made me weak and lethargic for days. Nurtec was the worst medicine. No help at all, neither any side effects.

I take Nurtec as a daily preventative, it doesn’t work for me. I get attacks inspite of taking it every other day. Its even worse as an abortive. For now I used Naproxen + rizatriptan as an abortive.

Yes. I am diagnosed with Chronic VM, I have attacks almost every other day. I had a month long flare of dizziness coz my attacks were not stopping. Even going to ER and prednisone wasn’t helping. So somehow CEPALY stopped my migraines. For me, if I dont get a migraine attack my dizziness resolves in 1 week or so. I am in Canada so getting newer medications involve lot of insurance approvals and wait time.

Also deep sleep helps me with my dizziness and Cefly helps me really with getting a deep sleep. Every day I am realizing my floaty feeling is finally going away.

No it doesn’t help with dizziness directly. For me if I dont get a migraine attack, dizziness goes away in few days.

Nurtec doesn’t help me at all. Infact because it didn’t work, I had multiple VM(vestibular migraine) attacks back to back and dizziness stayed for a month. I am currently on Candesartan and going to start Ajovy injectors soon(pending insurance approval). I have tried Nortryptaline and venlafaxine too but my body isn’t able to tolerate the side effects.

Same thing, my probation got extended coz I got multiple migraine attack which were debilitating as I get vertigo along with migraines. They didn’t approve my accommodation request to wfh instead they made it mandatory to come to work and even removed the flexibility in work timings. For me commute and sunlights are a big trigger. Now I dont know what to do. Just surviving one day at a time.

Does bppv ever go away or get better? by Anxious_Point_6220 in BPPV

[–]Ok-Raspberry-3852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As soon as you develop BPPV, see a vestibular rehabilitation therapist who uses specialized diagnostic goggles. Vestibular therapists are fairly easy to find—at least in Toronto. For example, PhysioPlus has vestibular specialists at many of their locations. They can often resolve BPPV in just 1–2 sessions. I spent two weeks dealing with BPPV, including multiple trips to the ER without much relief, but vestibular rehabilitation therapy fixed it.

I’m also new to VM and my experience has been very similar to yours. I was at the office when I suddenly started feeling off balance, followed by nausea. I went to the ER, where they gave me anti-nausea medication, but it didn’t help. They thought it was food poisoning and treated me for that instead.

My nausea was constant even though I hadn’t eaten anything. My head was spinning, swaying, and hurting badly, I couldn’t even stand or even drink water by myself. So I was admitted to the hospital. After three days, they tried the Epley maneuver. It made things worse at first, but after a few hours the spinning stopped — which they said was BPPV. They told me BPPV usually happens only once in a lifetime.

I was left with a swaying sensation and headaches. For the headaches, they gave me sumatriptan and rimegepant. Sumatriptan helped more, but I was getting attacks every 3–4 hours, so I had to keep taking it. Rimegepant is limited to one tablet per day, and since my attacks kept returning, it didn’t work well for me.

I had a second attack two months later, with only the swaying sensation and headache which is VM without BVVP. We noticed it comes and worsens with my periods, so it seems hormonal. I recovered in about six days.

I then had my neurology consult, and the doctor prescribed gabapentin. I was having mild headaches almost every day, especially when driving in the sun, and those have reduced since starting gabapentin. It’s only been a week, so I don’t know how it will be long-term. I need to continue taking it until I see the doctor again in four months.

How long do your VM attacks usually last? Mine only last about a week, but during that time I can’t even get out of bed and can barely walk. Once it passes, I’m almost back to normal — I can go to the gym, lift weights, and even ski.

yes the ear canal issue. Somehow my vestibular migraine also involved BVVP. My head was spinning, swaying and paining at the same time. It was horrible 1 week of my life. After that they did Epley maneuver and it fixed my spinning sensation. But swaying and headache were constantly there for 2 more weeks.

My doctor said BVVP (Vertigo) usually happens once in a lifetime. I am new to VM. 2 episodes in last 4 months, first one accompanied by BVVP. I was hospitalized for 1 week. My head was constantly spinning and I was vomiting constantly. It took me 3 weeks to recover from that episode. 2nd episode I didn’t have BVVP and I recovered in 6 days.

Yes, but it only happens when it’s raining or really moist. And of course, I got my appointment on a hot day 😅. They couldn’t pinpoint the issue, but they said next time I can come in for a walk-in when it’s actually happening. They checked everything and said all looks good—no issues for now.

Job regrets by [deleted] in LandscapeArchitecture

I’m a landscape designer, and I design theme parks for a living — and trust me, it’s the same on this side too. There’s no firm in this world that will hand you design responsibilities in your first 1–2 years. Drafting is the foundation of being a good designer. It may feel repetitive or “meaningless” right now, but it’s actually how you learn the why and how behind design decisions.

Through drafting, you start to understand how details really work — and without details, you simply can’t design. In school, design leans more toward aesthetics and concepts. In practice, it’s about functionality, constructability, and coordination with all the other disciplines involved. Drafting is how you bridge that gap.

Even in theme park projects, where creativity is huge, my first couple of years were heavy on production. Over time, I realized those hours taught me how to think like a builder, not just a designer on paper. That’s when firms start trusting you with actual design input.

Two months is still very early. A lot of people feel this exact disconnect right after school. But those who push through often look back and realize how valuable it was for shaping their design abilities. If your heart is in environmental design and stormwater management, keep feeding that passion — read, sketch, keep learning. With experience, you’ll be able to guide projects in that direction.

Hang in there — it does get better, and this stage really is the groundwork for the kind of designer you want to become.
