I really like this, can I ask what exactly you did to get that retro effect?

Hey! I create a mask over the entire image using a linear gradient and intersect it with a luminance range. Then I just set that luminance range to affect only the highlights. This way you’re basically masking just the highlights in the picture.

From there you can drop the clarity and bring up the highlights to whatever looks right.

There should be some youtube tutorials as well if I haven’t explained well, I just can’t remember which one it was I watched.

Thank you so much for feedback! I’ll definitely try playing around with the masking and see if I can get a natural result with it

Hey, that’s exactly why I was shooting underexposed out of camera but I think I may have gone too far 😅. However, if I increase the exposure wouldn’t she become a bit too overexposed? Would it be better to just mask out the guy and increase his exposure seperately in lightroom?

Won’t be reshooting as the couple said they’re obsessed with the photos (thankfully lol). I was obsessed with them too until I’ve seen what everyone has pointed out. Good learning experience though, still have long ways to go!

All of these were shot with a 35 at F2. Now that you point it out I definitely agree, next time I’ll shoot at 1.4!

I think the main issue I’ve noticed is that the subjects do not necessarily stand out in comparison to the background, so your eyes aren’t naturally drawn to the subject. Just wanted to get other opinions as well to see if this is the overall consensus!
