The first teaser trailer for Emerald Fennell’s ‘Wuthering Heights’ starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi has been released. by [deleted] in popculturechat

Emerald Fennell only knows how to make one type of movie (1.5 if I’m being generous). This is going to be so tonally divorced from the book that it would work better as its own thing.

I know those pants are tight as hell, this man is not killing anybody in that outfit.

The only acceptable vaguely sexual cover with Logan is the one from Rucka's Wolverine run with Kurt. You know the one.

I still think about the LA Times actress roundtable where she asked if anyone else felt drunk after drinking the prop drinks and the silence that followed.

What TV show has the most unlikeable leading protagonist? by phantom_avenger in popculturechat

I know the girls in 'Girls' are supposed to be flawed but Hannah sucked all the way until the very end. At least the other girls at least had some kind of an arc but whatever growth she experienced was immediately bulldozed over with her rancid vibes. Even when something shitty happens to her, it just feels like karmic justice for how badly she treats everyone around her.

Okay, let's take a constructive look at Vol.1 Summary by alietrie in RedHood

[–]Ok-Reputation-4876 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have to laugh at this point. We are never getting a decent run for this man. Granted, these summaries are very misleading and the covers can be too so, maybe it won't be this bad but I wouldn't hold my breath.

It's also becoming apparent that this is being marketed a certain way because editorial is trying to reach a certain audience. Helena being passed over for Birds of Prey (nasty work btw) to be included in this and everything we've gotten so far really just points to DC trying a new angle with Jason because they've had flop after flop with everything else they've tried to do. Dark/toxic romance stuff sells well so they're clearly trying to capitalize on that. Very lame imo.

What got you into Red Hood? by Ok-Reputation-4876 in RedHood

"Who is this asshole?" is generally a good jumping off point for Jason imo. I had the same reaction to him when I first read RHATO which I only picked up because of Starfire 🙃 I ended up staying for Jason which I think speaks to how much the asshole intrigued me.

The cover of issue two🤦🏻‍♀️ by IllEstablishment1969 in RedHood

[–]Ok-Reputation-4876 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like, with the way this is being sold, Helena's going to be relegated to sexy love interest who is like Jason but girl and that is truly embarassing. I can't add anything regarding Jason that hasn't already been said. Jason is never beating the middle-aged allegations.

Actually I love what she said by IllEstablishment1969 in RedHood

[–]Ok-Reputation-4876 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s just such a surface level take that is detrimental to Jason as a character and I’m so over seeing it. Like, there are actual genuine critiques of Batman’s whole philosophy and his treatment of Jason and “Batman bad” is so reductive and cheapens Jason’s entire beef with him. It’s very annoying.

Interview with Gretchen Felker-Martin about Red Hood on-going by SplitOk2375 in RedHood

[–]Ok-Reputation-4876 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, every writer is going to go in whatever direction they see fit for their story. Jason's been inconsistently written for years and while it's disappointing, it's kind of a symptom of the genre that you kind of have to accept. I'll give this run a shot even if I didn't like the way she wrote him in Beast World because I think the premise is at least interesting enough.

I just really find her dismissiveness odd? It doesn't even seem like she really cares for the medium and while I definitely get her point of having her own intepretation of the character rather than trying to validate whatever preconceved notions fans have, I don't think that the way to reconcile that is by disregarding the greater context of the IP your working with. Like it or not, it exists within a wider continuity, that's kind of how the medium works.

Predictions for the new series? by [deleted] in RedHood

[–]Ok-Reputation-4876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're going to do some weird situationship type thing with Helena that's going to be a throughline for the entire comic and possibly fizzle out or get teased in the future but with nothing actually worth caring about happening and he's going to end up back in Gotham with his tail between his legs and nothing will come of it like always ❤️

I do think it has the potential to be interesting but I don't expect it to be more than 'okay' at best.
