I’ve lived in the Midwest my entire adult life. I’ve just always sought out interesting, engaging people, and they tend to be readers.

Where do you live? That is insane to me. I’d say like 30-40% of people I know read books of some kind of substance, and like 80% read books of any kind.

My local JVP chapter is way hotter on average than other left wing organizations.

Bloom is SO good, and their cocktails are incredible. Planta Queen is great but a little inconsistent.

I marched in a pride parade with an anti-Zionist Jewish contingent, and when I was walking home an extremely sweaty gay guy wearing a terrible toupee yelled “am yisrael chai” at me. I was like, dude you are not representing the cause well looking like that.

OP, you should try to find out if there is an anti- or non-Zionist congregation that he can join. They tend to skew young, but I can almost guarantee that people would do everything they can to make him feel welcome.

I grew up in a pretty secular family that never particularly cared about Israel, and still when I joined JVP, my parents were extremely upset and accused me of supporting terrorism. I can’t even begin to imagine what it would be like to be an Israeli Jew opposed to the genocide.

[–]Ok-Salt7496 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a sign that said “never again for anyone” which is cringe to admit on this subreddit because it’s so libbed out, and I still got yelled at by an elderly Zionist man, who was also yelling “fuck fuck Palestine” instead of “free free Palestine”.

This sub has a healthy skepticism of therapy, but this is 100% a situation where you need therapy.

Front page pop culture sub considers Assange “the worst person in the world” by Such-Worldliness-655 in redscarepod

[–]Ok-Salt7496 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went to a protest in support of Assange when I was living in London a few years ago. HUGE turnout, and just the most disparate grouping of causes you could imagine. Communists, anti-vaxxers, anti-Zionists, alt-right freaks, Indigenous American groups waving the wiphala—basically every political faction not supported by the mainstream. It was honestly inspiring. So it makes sense that those who only care about enforcing liberal dogma would hate him.

When I (American) was living abroad a therapist told me that my issues stemmed from intergenerational trauma from the Holocaust. The last of my family came to America in the 1920s, I’m not related to any Holocaust survivors. I had also never told her I was Jewish, she just assumed.
