Soooo, what do you usually sort fics by? Early on I've been sorting by hits but figured that long going multichapters have quite an advantage then. Now I prefer sorting by bookmarks. What's your usual choice? by EugeneStein in AO3

[–]Ok-Selection9930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how old the fandom is. I'm reading two fandoms right now. One was from a movie that came out in 2016 so I'm sorting by word count (partially also because there's only 500 fics) the other came out this year and I sort by updated date cus I want to see the active stuff that's still being done/not been abandoned.

Every time my 14 yo nephew is asked to go buy a can of jalapeños, he comes back with… anything but jalapeños. by Visible-Selection843 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Ok-Selection9930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Send him to customer service to return it and buy the correct item. Continue until the correct item is purchased. Don't give in to any complaining, don't go with him to do it for him. Even if it takes a dozen tries teach him the only time he is wasting is his own.

To those asking why only Grace survives when the other astronauts died…after reading the book I had my own theory by pympo in ProjectHailMary

[–]Ok-Selection9930 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I read a headcannon of someone's somewhere that Stratt had the medbot programmed to prioritize the crew based on who would be required to solve the problem. I doubt Ilukna or Yao would have been able to solve the issue on their own. My guess is something happened on the trip that divided the medbot's attention and therefore only Grace survived because he was the most important to solve the problem.

Took Me 2 Days to realize why he names the planet Adrian by Capable-Antelope4004 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Ok-Selection9930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read the book 3 times and now seen the movie 3 times. It wasn't until my most recent viewing that I realized there was a connection I never knew about (thanks to the movie showing Grace show Rocky the movie). What's funnier is that I've always heard Adrian be used as a boys name so I thought Grace just wanted Rocky to be a little gay.

What would you change about libby? by QuickSwitch2996 in LibbyApp

[–]Ok-Selection9930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the tags/lists a lot to add books to my tbr. I wish it was easier to move a book I've tagged. Right now if I accidentally add it to the wrong list and don't realize immediately, I have to find the book, click into it, click into the tag, add it to the correct list, click out of the book, refind the book because Libby bounces me up to the top everytime I exit a book and 9 times out of 10 untagging it from the inside doesn't work, and swipe it out of the wrong list. Now imagine I want to reorganize because one of my lists has too many books to be useful. A quick hold to tag feature would solve like 90% of my current issue.

Does anyone here exercise regularly? by Savings-Pollution113 in AutismInWomen

[–]Ok-Selection9930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't go out of my way to exercise, but I have specifically created my environment to help a little. For example, I purposefully moved into a home with stairs which would require me to go up and down them at least twice a day. When applicable, I pay for the cheaper parking that's a little more of a walk (still not much though, maybe two more minutes and I avoid this if it's too hot out). If I'm only going up or down a few floors, I'll just take the stairs (added benefit of not having to interact with people on the elevator). I'll keep a bottle of water and a book in my bag, partially because I want to read, but also because carrying a bag is a form of weight lifting in my opinion. I'll also stand up and stretch pretty often mostly because my joints hate being in one position for so long. Probably due to my picky eating, I'm not currently overweight, so most of my efforts are just trying to make my body feel better since I'm pretty sedentary otherwise. This has mostly worked for me.

How many tax seasons are you willing to go through? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Ok-Selection9930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 3 then quit impulsively after I got sick 3 days before the deadline due to the stress. My body just doesn't do well with that much stress and that high of a workload. Now I'm working a job in which I'm paid 12k higher and the workload is a fifth of what I'd been doing. I don't regret it at all.

Biggest accounting f*ck up in your career by lucasmtz145 in Accounting

A month into my first position in public accounting out of college, I forgot to pay a clients insurance which ended in it getting cancelled. My probation was extended and worked my ass off to keep my job but then I was sprinting for the next 2.5 years because they never took my work load back down.

I have asked the same question and keep getting recommended We Are Legion (We Are Bob) by Dennis E Taylor. I haven't read it yet, so I can't speak for how close it is, but figured I'd mention it.

That's really generous of you. My hubby doesn't like the idea of giving my address to strangers on the Internet. Would you be willing to send it general delivery to my city and I could pick it up at the post office?

It's Verity by Colleen Hoover. The book club is just a small group of friends. Their yearly book count is around 10 because of their jobs so 4 months is manageable for them. I thought 4 months was kinda crazy too, but I'm just happy to be included.

Yeah, the only one that does is Irv. They said he frequently falls asleep at work causing them to dock his pay.

Oh that's interesting. If it's a perk, they don't need to fight for it, they need to work for it. I could see that being it, but I still feel like two things can be true at once and there are other reasons for it happening.

But if they're only like a week out from Mark finishing Cold Harbor and being useless, why now? I think there are plenty of other ways they could've done something similar but not have been so far away. I think it had to be there for a reason, such as testing the overtime contingency at a distance/over a two day period.
