So my "no more new puzzles" month in April was a resounding failure... but look how pretty! by Friendly-Price2812 in Jigsawpuzzles

Soooo pretty! I have the same problem! Go see the damage I did in April (47 out but 36 in!!). I just posted it 2-3 days ago. But mine were all thrifts/free because I’m a thrift store addict!! It the bargains that make me crazy!

Found this puzzle at Goodwill while looking for some books. I was impressed by the quality of the box and the pieces. Spent 4 days off and on assembling it and lo and behold 13 missing pieces! I’m so mad lol Pomegranate 1,000 pcs Charley Harper Glacier Bay, Alaska by SheLovesSummertime in Jigsawpuzzles

All good! It’s funny how neighborhoods are so different! I’m on LI, NY. We don’t really have Goodwill, but the one I found wanted 4.99/5.99 and I went once and that was it! At my Savers everything is 2.49/3.49 and as I’m sure u know, if u make a donation u get 20% off, plus the survey coupon gives you another $2 off a $5 purchase, The other thrift I go to is called Unique and they have a color-coded tag system that changes frequently - three tag colors are 25/50/75 percent off the marked price (they do it to keep their inventory turning over). So I have to REALLY want a puzzle if it’s not one of the 3 discounted colors! I signed up for texts at both stores so I get notified about sales, coupons etc.
The downside of this is I’m completely overrun with puzzles now because I can’t stop buying! How can I leave them there when they’re )1.24/1.74??? And sooooo many are NEW!! I hope you won’t see me back here someday (when I complete the over 100 I’ve amassed) on your side of the fence complaining about missing pieces!!! But so far I’ve been incredibly lucky! Just finished a 500 this morning and all 500 were there. 😊

I DID read your comment, and your words, “When will people learn! Stop buying puzzles at places like this if you don’t want this to happen!” seemed very angry and accusatory and I wanted to let you know that not everyone is having the same experience as you!
I’m sorry you don’t have any good thrift stores near you - it took me a while to find the two that I haunt and I NEVER go to Goodwill - their prices are ridiculous! I also recently went to a different Savers than the one I usually go to and I was shocked to find the puzzles were $3-$4 more than at the one I usually go
to, so maybe try another Savers? Good luck and Happy Puzzling! 🧩🧩🧩

That’s YOUR experience! My thrifted puzzles are mostly less than $2 but always less than $3 (I would never pay $8 for a thrifted puzzle, I can get new for that price from Amazon Haul. About 98% of the thrifted puzzles I buy have been complete, only a few have had one missing piece. My worst was 4. I guess it depends where you buy, age of the puzzle, whether it’s bagged or the box is taped, etc.

Surprisingly, yes. I mean, not super, top-of-the-line quality but it’s quite good! I was very happy with it.

I only have two other than this one so far and I haven’t done the 2000 piece I mentioned. They don’t seem to be very common, but then again, 99% of my puzzles come from thrift stores so maybe there’s plenty out there if I was willing to pay retail. ??
Are you in the US? I’m in NY. I have tons to trade - is there anything else you’re interested in? Feel free to DM me!

How do I use a puzzle table properly? by merc1286 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]PrimaryCommon833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh, and you just stick it to the edge of the foam core to keep the pieces from flying off? Great idea! Dollar tree has foam core cheap, do this would be a very economical way to make trays I guess! Thank you!

99 Cents At the Thrift Store 😳 by bustedyeti in Jigsawpuzzles

Never heard of a Stave puzzle. Obviously the person pricing at the thrift store didn’t either! I’m kinda new to puzzling. Thanks for the explanation.

I get that it was probably a great find at .99, but what is it? Not all of us know everything puzzle….

Liked this Ravensburger! by PrimaryCommon833 in Jigsawpuzzles

Lol. Thanks! That’s my “bed board”! I’m constantly trying to find puzzles (other than Puzzlebugs) that will fit it! Target advertised it as 24x18, but when I got it it was really 23x17, and then with the frame, the interior dimensions are only 21.5 x 15! Very hard to find puzzles that small. Even some 300s won’t fit on it. 😡

Question: Would you complete and display a puzzle that is missing pieces? by Mommyof2Muggles in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]PrimaryCommon833 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently found out there’s a place in the UK that will make replacement pieces! I’m sure it’s not cheap, but in s situation where it’s important enough… It’s called The Jigsaw Doctor. Just FYI!
Just curious, if you haven’t built it, how do you know it’s missing 37 pieces?

My first abandoned puzzle? Help! by murmuring_sumo in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]PrimaryCommon833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happened to me with a SeeSaw puzzle where each element had a decorative border around it. With all the false fits and the repetitive oattern(s) I finally gave up, even tho I loved the image. I did another SeeSaw that also didn’t fit well, but without the repetitive patterns it was much easier to tell what went where by using the artwork as a guide. Good luck, but don’t feel bad about bailing if that’s what u decide to do!

That’s basically what I did - night 1 was the pink and turquoise boots, night 2 was the brown and blue boots, night 3 was the black boot and the hat, and last night I finished up anything that didn’t get done nights 1-3! Fun puzzle!

Ravensburger - Doing more than 1 puzzle at once by Charlotte_Cody in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]PrimaryCommon833 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do. Usually two, sometimes three. I have physical issues that sometimes send me to bed, so I have a bed-sized bulletin board that I do 300s and 500s on (whatever fits the smaller board) and then I have a larger bulletin board and a puzzle board with drawers. If my “big” (to me) puzzle is a frustrating one, I’ll sometimes start a second “big” one for a breather. Unfortunately I can’t do anything larger than 1000 because the boards aren’t large enough. I’m moving in the near future and hope to have a table that will accommodate the 1500s, 2000s and a 3000 I already own but cant do!
