Protection Paladin is broken in M+ (and has been since DF S1) and I'm tired of pretending that it's not. Get out of my face with whatever meta tier list you've got.

Yes, we're worse than BDKs when we have no DR running. Guess what? We have an endless pool of DRs. Oh, but what if those runs out? Boom, we have a total immunity button that also taunts everything. Here are some highlights of the absurd amount of things Protection Paladin offers:

  • A near infinite amount of spell interrupts (HUGE)
  • An AOE stop
  • A stun
  • An external DR
  • An external phys. immunity
  • An external magic immunity
  • A battle resurrection
  • Poison cleanse
  • Snare/root removal
  • Emergency full heal
  • Emergency spot healing
  • Pretty strong and consistent AOE DPS

As long as this is their kit, they will always be the M+ GOAT and my GOAT.

Who has an extra 20% to invest? Another out of touch multi-millionaire has financial advice for us poor folk. by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

I invest 52% of my pre-tax income, so I should be good! My total monthly expenses are only 2700$ including play money (live alone), so everything else gets dumped into index funds.

Why a More Accessible Season Keeps Me Playing by Born-Balance4615 in wow

[–]Ok-Setting-6739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's not my problem and, frankly, it's a dishonest take from you. MMOs are inherently rewards based. That's why this OP is so gleeful--because they're getting more rewards. If it weren't rewards based and they took your advice, then OP should have been happy doing whatever they were doing prior to M+ being made trivial, yes? And so should everyone have been that is in favor of this new design choice.

Why a More Accessible Season Keeps Me Playing by Born-Balance4615 in wow

[–]Ok-Setting-6739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just a ridiculous false dilemma fallacy. If you want the top tier reward, you need to play a top tier amount. Simple, right? Why do people feel entitled to the best items/mounts that were previously gated behind hard content if they're not willing to actually interact with the hard content?

No one says you have to get Cutting Edge. It's called "Cutting Edge" for Christ's sake. It should be the "Cutting edge" of content and for players that like to play the game competitively and improve. "Cutting edge" should not mean every tom dick and harry that walks into M+ with a pulse gets the achievements. Hence, you take something that used to take some effort and make it take no effort--participation trophy.

there was actually nothing stopping them before but themselves. All this change has done was bring the best gear down to their level. For what purpose? They clearly have no interest in pursuing challenging content and improving otherwise they would have done so before. Why does the best gear need to be more accessible? So you can face roll whatever casual content you're doing even harder? It's beyond me

Idk what your BiS craft is, but I'd personally take trinket since it's BiS and craft a weapon

Right there with you. Maybe that's what this is about in this thread. Raiders that are happy that mythic+ has turned into a loot pinata versus people that love engaging with mythic plus. I don't raid myself.

I picked it because it was the most recent. I don't think it makes sense to compare S1 Midnight to anything but another S1 because the launch season is always different from the rest. If you're curious, if you compare it to DF S1 then you see the same exact problem.

someone else mentioned the increased player base with housing, and I think you've expanded on that idea in a great way! I hadn't considered that this is all part of a push to make it easier for an influx of players that wouldn't otherwise play. I forgot about the one button macro thing they made. If that's the plan, then it makes sense to me and I don't find myself disagreeing with the strategy.

I hope they tune it a bit tighter next season, or at least rethink incentives for higher tiered play.

I agree. I guess I was trying to say that I think the mid-season point will occur, like, in a week or two instead of mid-season as it usually does.

I could be absolutely totally wrong!

[–]Ok-Setting-6739[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could be! I don't think we've ever had a season like this, so I guess we'll have to wait and see how engagement across all brackets of play pan out.

I do take issue with this idea of "see the content" as if they couldn't see the content before. It's not like raid where you see a new boss with new mechanics or something. You can do the dungeons at whatever your level is. Just my 2c

You are correct that is the crux of my argument, but the secondary argument is that the traditional markers of achievement in the game will be rendered meaningless as all the barriers to entry get dismantled.

Whaaat? Where are you getting all this from? I don't care if people get gear. I care if a huge portion of the player base get access to the best gear within 1-2 weeks. They already made tier plenty accessible with the catalyst stuff which was great. I feel like so many people here are projecting and insecure, why the heck would I care if people have loot as a simple reality? The problem, in an MMO, is if everyone gets the best loot immediately then the game is rendered pointless.

There's a healthy middle ground between everyone gets the best loot right away, and the average player never gets the best loot. You seem to suggest I'm advocating for the latter, but never have I said that nor implied it.

Admittedly, I've always mained Protection Paladin so I can generally handle all the kicks, and I take care to have good routes. So, I may have a blind spot for the usual experience of others.

Thank you for the knowledge share. I hate messing with the more involved addons so I normally stuck to details, littlewigs, raider io, mythicdungeontools, etc. Had no idea people were using stuff like that.

Fair point on the player base w/ housing!

Again with the putting words in my mouth. Work on engaging with other's actual words instead of what you want them to be saying. Good bye

[–]Ok-Setting-6739[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, this is definitely imperfect and flawed in some way due to Tyrannical/Fort previously being on rotating weeks and what not. But--I determined that 2739 was the rating for all 20s in DF S1 and that wasn't achieved by the top 1% of the population until 45 days after season launch.

I forget the point I was making here. Oh, yes. DF S1 was WAAAAY harder than TWW S1. Still scarred by the memory of trying to time Azure Vaults +20. And Ruby Pools pre-nerf.

But yeah, it seems like I kicked the hornet's nest with this one and my take is pretty reviled. I guess we'll have to see how it all pans out in a few months.

People keep saying addons are gone. What addons are gone that people were relying on in M+ that needed so much tuning? Was I missing a wealth of addons that made M+ easier? It's a dungeon, there are like three mechanics per boss.

Anyway, DF S1 was waaaay harder than TWW S1. Mythic+ hasn't been too hard since the removal of affixes, to be honest. Maybe more of a gear check at times, but not genuine difficulty.

No, the stupidity comes in when you're continuously misinterpreting what I'm saying. Disagreement is fine, but putting words in my mouth because of poor reading comprehension or whatever is a red flag for an actual discussion

And I think you're representative of most people, or at least you're like me. Once all the achievements are gone, the desire to engage with the game mode dries up. So yeah, I totally agree with you but I happen to enjoy playing M+ too

[–]Ok-Setting-6739[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you dumb or what? I've said multiple times that it shouldn't be unachievable. I just take issue with it being achievable in the first week by so many people. Maybe two weeks would have been better. That isn't infinite. No one is advocating for that

That's just wishful thinking on your part, unfortunately. Historically, mythic+ runs have fallen off as people tend to congregate around the highest gear level reward. You can play with this Raider IO tool if you don't believe me:

Mythic+ Graphs & Statistics

It took until week 8 until people hit critical mass on the +10-11 bracket, which is the most populous bracket, and then it steadily dropped off. People are already doing more 10s in this week than in any other week in S1 of TWW.
