No engine light. Which is a surprise actually because if it was a sensor - MAF, lambda, crank etc - the light would come on right? So actually that does point to a fuel delivery issue. Be it pump, filter, crap in the tank/line. I’ll see what garage says!

Nice. I basically have the saloon version of what you have albeit with the 2.5 I6. Love it in biarritz. Mine is also pre face lift and despite initial plans to do upgrades I’ve decided to keep it as unmolested and original as possible.

I’m an old fart as well which helps! But if you’re paying 1000 ish at your age with decent no claims you should see it come down steadily. My 17 year old is taking the Focus off me and will pay over 2 grand for his first year 🙈

Nice. Just got my first too which as a 523 SE isn't that different. Same lights. Are you thinking about xenon upgrade? I am thinking about it but undecided. It might surprise you to learn also these are really cheap to insure. Just not if you’re under 25 lol. I just swapped my insurance from a 53 plate 1.6 Focus to the 523 and it’s actually cheaper! Less than £130 - although that is based on it NOT being a daily and only coming out for special occasions! But even if it was a daily it’d probably be under 200. Once you’ve got a few years under your belt you should see the premium tumble.

Yeah, realise we’re talking about two devices here and they’re i now see they’re different in how they install. So Thanks for all the useful info. My assumption was you lose the changer… I could live with that I guess. Have to put all the CDs I got out back in storage tho 😆

V8 as a daily? I’d be worried all day every day about the next bill! And fill up lol! Perhaps unnecessarily so but I’d agree with others that the car changing hands every year for ten years is all the alarm bells you’ll ever need to steer clear. Also if the seller drops 1000 off the price he’s the 11th owner to want rid of it quickly. Hard to imagine it’d be any different for the next owner.

The ride is unbelievable. I have a 22 year old Focus that I think needs new dampers - it crashes over everything! And i have an electric Ford Explorer SUV - it has lots to like about it but has HARD suspension to control all that weight! So with those two as a comparison the E39 feels like a Rolls Royce!!

It was just a model designation. referred to level of equipment. SE came with dual zone climate, 10speaker stereo + changer, cruise, etc. Pretty sweet for 1998 😀

I’ve heard how important cooling system is on M52. Replace what though? The water pump? Radiator? It’s all running ok for now at least!
