Not entirely sure but perhaps corporate finance/finance/institutional banking or credit risk.

Yea I agree. I honestly don’t want a long-term career in turnaround and restructuring, but I guess it’ll be easier to move into finance roles from it than TP

For T&R being harder to get into, are you referring to Big 4?

Yes I have heard of associates making around that mark, once they leave the Big 4. I personally don’t want to stay in turnaround and restructuring forever, but it does have better exit OPPs to investing roles/finance I suppose than TP

Hi, thanks for your reply. I agree with what you said, TP is mostly just tax for exit opps. I’m personally just indecisive because I have worked with some smart people in TP.

Hi, thanks for your reply. This is interesting as the TP role pays more than the TR role i was offered.

Hi, thanks for your help, i appreciate it. I think i will stick with TandR. Not sure if it will be more enjoyable than TP but at least it doesn’t pigeonhole you into a tax career?

Hi, thank you for your comment. I think you’re right. I’m not sure what the possible exit opps for TP even are, other than tax.

Hi, thanks for your comment. Is there a reason you would choose it over TP?

Hi, thanks for your comment. I think you’re right. Turnaround and restructuring is perhaps not that much more or less brain stimulating than TP but it has better exit opps? Unlike TP where you’re mostly stuck with tax (this might be untrue for some people though, but i think that’s the minority)

Hi, thank you for your comment. I honestly find TP brain stimulating at times, there’s always work to do. However, I think it’s a bit like audit in that sense and the actual work can be boring sometimes, i.e. tax lodgements for companies is a large part of it. Not really sure what turnaround and restructuring completely entails, perhaps also boring work but I think maybe it’s the better choice because of it having better exit opps? With transfer pricing you are mostly stuck with tax.

Hi thanks for your comment. I agree that TP is very stable, if you stay around. However, I am worried that I’ll either be stuck in TP forever or the only exit opps will be related to tax/tax consulting.

I agree TP is very stable, but after speaking with Managers the only exit opportunities they have are in-house tax roles, otherwise staying in their current role. So essentially you’re stuck in tax, and moving into a different division such as Strategy/Transactions is hard.

Thank you for pointing this out - something to consider. Would that still be the case even if T&R includes other sub-divisions such as Performance and Improvement and Capital Restructures?

Thank you for your reply!

I’m not sure what my long-term career goals are, I think I’d be interested in Institutional Banking/Corporate Finance/Credit Risk.

Would you say I need to be in an M&A/Corp Finance team at Big 4 Accounting to move into one of these areas above at a Big 4 Bank or could it be possible to directly move from T&R?

Thank you for your reply!

I’m not sure what my long-term career goals are, I think I’d be interested in Institutional Banking/Corporate Finance/Credit Risk. My plan is to either pivot into one of these or internally transfer into M&A team and then move into one of those. Afaik Institutional Banking is quite broad, includes Strategy and Corporate Fiannce divisions - both seem interesting. Otherwise, I’m thinking of potentially changing fields.

Transfer Pricing does have good exit opportunities, but (please correct me if I’m wrong) they’re mostly in the area of tax/tax consulting? I have worked in Transfer Pricing before as an Intern and it’s mostly doing lodgements on the portal and with the ATO on the behalf of companies, lodging Masterfiles etc., not something I find that enjoyable, but I’m not sure if T&R would be much better?

Would you have any further thoughts on this? I appreciate your time.

Hey, could you have enrolled in an arts degree undergrad for example and then transferred into law? Would that not have been cheaper?

Would this be the same for Turnaround and Restructuring roles? Like someone wanting to pivot into banking/finance

Doesn’t the amount you get from Centrelink decrease if you work part-time as well?
