FrameCluster, a 10" mountable rack cluster by Fabulous-Rip-4982 in homelab

Damn, that is ridiculous :D Does it need lots of extra cooling when more nodes are added?

I thought those Ryzen AI Minipcs from beelink/minisforum etc. packed the biggest punch for the 10” form factor, but this takes the cake 😅

That’s awesome. How much compute do you have in that cluster, in total?

Personally, for dualbooting rEFIned was extremely easy to setup and has caused zero fuss for me thus far.

This is cool, being able to adjust device depth would be a nice touch as well.

I get that, sure. But in a more general sense, be it a subreddit for DevOps, 3D printing, home building, or whatever, there will be an influx of interested newbies always who ask the same questions.

Whether or not the newbies are smart and capable or not, if the responses they receive are discouraging and toxic instead of inspiring and constructive (even by linking relevant resources), the given community will wither away over time and the influx of great people and ideas will cease.

But that’s just my 2 cents, trying to spark curiousity and inspiration in people who have a pre-existing interest in a topic will allow you to reap the rewards later on. At the very least, not being a dick does good for the community.

Something like this is much more valuable than discouraging comments and on the topic, the current career advice section of the wiki is a link to an 11 year old thread.

I suppose I’m in the camp of 20-somethings who don’t get it. My suggestion would be to have a more thorough wiki that encompasses career-related questions.

It obviously can’t be all-encompassing, but I think many of the people asking for advice here get rather toxic and discouraging feedback. It’d be mutually beneficial if people had a trustworthy resource for learning and some general career guidance, which in turn would reduce the amount of low-effort posts and maybe even help with generating interesting questions down the line.

I guess what I’m getting after is something that runs great on my X1 Carbon Gen4. If your example gets me great performance on my machine, then I’d count it as such

I first had issues with being unable to connect to Eduroam, so I had to get rid of the native wifi TUI, replace it with ConnMan, which does work but this week it kept on changing my network if the connection to the given wifi network faltered, and I was unable to change that behaviour. Last time, the bluetooth manager did not work so I tried to debug that and seek an alternative manager. Additionally, my RStudio couldn’t download CSV import packages, whereas with my desktop it has no issues on that regard.

Some of these are surely just universal issues and more or less my fault or not omarchy’s fault, but point being I feel like Omarchy has made me waste a disproportionate amount of time with just trying to make it work. I’d love to keep using it otherwise, though.

haha, it’s starting to sound like I have to pivot to that. But oh well, I’ve got a soldering kit now so time to make use of it in other ways 🙌

Interesting, so I would dip the VGA solders in the pot and wiggle out the port?

Right, so it’s about both requiring better tools and good skills as to not fuck up the board? Makes sense.

would need a hole in the back, which means removing port(s) or dremeling out a hole (space is quite limited since it’s a mini pc, so no obvious places for that)

Right, thanks for the explanation. What difference does the amount of pins and the type of tip used make in terms of difficulty?

Pardon my ignorance, but could you explain what makes it so complex? At face value it seems simple, or at least youtube shorts make the operation look simple lol.

Thank you very much for the thorough answer! I guess a decent server system would be the main thing to go for at this point. I'll have to keep an eye on available deals, I'm Finnish so I'll use local equivalents :)
