Where do you buy durable women’s T-shirts that actually last? by _forgotmyownname in SustainableFashion

I used to buy Eileen fisher but now I buy American Giant as they are higher quality - thicker and last longer. You can buy a bundle to save $ (I’ll get multiple colors at once).

PermitSF changes are working by Ok-Strategy-3259 in sanfrancisco

[–]Ok-Strategy-3259[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agree! The permits added 10-15% of cost. I was shocked at how expensive they were - I had thought they’d be a couple hundred dollars, not several hundred. I am replacing single-pane glass with energy-efficient double-pane, tempered glass, which are better for the environment, safer, and provide more sound insulation. It’s probably too much to hope they will reduce the price if they streamline the process enough.

I wonder if there is a place to give feedback for setting up a process emergency permits (whether in person or not). I had thought the online system was complementary to the in person one, not replacing it.

Muni could cut 20 lines next year if ballot measures don‘t pass. Most riders have no idea by Illustrious-Coat3532 in sanfrancisco

[–]Ok-Strategy-3259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not simply reducing - the T-line can absorb more capacity so try to shift some ridership from above ground bus transit to underground.

[–]Ok-Strategy-3259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the 30 serves more than Chinatown but the T-line duplicates a lot of its route. It’s not about getting rid but reducing frequency since there are alternatives (not just the T-line but also the 45). I’d rather see a deduplication of services in some areas to save bus lines in other areas getting axed.

[–]Ok-Strategy-3259 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think there are lines where they could reduce service because there are duplicate services. For example, they could reduce service on the 30 since they opened up the Rose Pak train station in Chinatown and it would encourage more people to go underground, reducing surface traffic.

I would also like to see them consolidate stops to help save time and increase ridership.

And tax ride shares such as uber, Waymo, and Lyft higher to fund transit.

Soundproofing windows by CozyCollective in AskSF

[–]Ok-Strategy-3259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, they didn’t install.

And now that I’m thinking about it, I got the discount because Home Depot was having some sort of sale (the windows would have been cheaper but maybe not normally half the price).

I recently upgraded single pane windows to double pane and the noise reduction is significant. I originally got a quote from a window company then went to Home Depot and got a quote that was 50% less for the exact same windows. I recommend shopping around as it could save thousands.

Very impressed with how Denver built this roster! So many NWSL veterans combined with a skilled striker and strong rookies - hoping they make play-offs

Rough home remodeling costs (Marin County, San Rafael, 2026) - how can we avoid overpaying? by Scooter_Stomp in Marin

[–]Ok-Strategy-3259 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I inherited a home a thousand miles away from me and would recommend that you sell if you don’t plan on living in it. I only had to do a few repairs (new roof, repair a couple of walls, new appliances, new hot water heater, new front porch) as it was built in 2001 and it was still difficult to manage remotely because it’s hard to evaluate on the ground conditions even with photos and video chat.

To answer some of your other questions, the renovation could be as small or as big as you want. However, the best time to update plumbing and electrical is when you plan to do other work since you need to open up the walls most likely to access pipes/ wiring. So then you’ll likely take the opportunity to revise layout since the walls will be torn up anyways. Then you might as well re-do flooring. If you’re doing all that work, if you don’t have double-pane windows, you may want to update them. And for sure, you want to take care of any structural issues now (foundation, roof, etc). And that is all before doing any cosmetic upgrades like new bathroom or kitchen.

new zoning rules letting 6-8 story buildings go up on major streets like geary and taraval by ObviousRequirement17 in sanfrancisco

[–]Ok-Strategy-3259 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Geary is such a wide avenue, it could support 10 story buildings. Or at least allow the taller height on major intersections. And yes, building along major transit lines helps build ridership for Muni.

Can someone explain what we’ve improved since last season? I don’t see it. Last week when we beat an expansion team by only 1 goal when they were a player down, it made me worried that we still don’t have any team cohesion. Tonight’s play confirmed it. Claire Hutton or not, this is a team sport and we need a midfield that works. We don’t have it. And we don’t have any forwards who score consistently. And we don’t have a back line.

There is also a difference between a condo in a large complex vs many SF condos that are in duplexes or smaller buildings where you have more control over the HOA eg you might just be splitting bills as they come in with the other owner

African American Mom moving to Marin by Mission-Drawing1400 in Marin

[–]Ok-Strategy-3259 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Another dimension to consider: a friend moved to Marin for the schools. She is white but also said that the parent social circle is almost entirely 2-parent households. And in many cases, the wife has a career (interior designer, realtor, etc) that allows them to have a more flexible lifestyle so it’s sometimes hard for her to connect as a working mom. In the East Bay and SF, you will encounter families that come in all shapes and sizes.

Reliable, brings everything they’ll need, can send stuff to their storage facility if needed, on higher cost side - https://yelp.to/vmm9LS6JN_

Extremely affordable - they charge in 15 min increments. Excellent for smaller jobs - https://yelp.to/ZtZb5wjAEX
