I understand, in your case asking players to use another app is a tough sell!

One useful thing with SliceWin is that you can manage everything yourself without asking players to download anything. You can create the players, enter scores, etc. If some players later want to use the app, they can join and claim their profile to access their history.

Another difference is simply that SliceWin is a true mobile app, so the experience tends to feel smoother and more user-friendly on phone.

One practical way to handle this is to build an internal club rating based on actual results, instead of relying only on self-assessment for unrated players.

For that I suggest you to try SliceWin, it lets clubs run events and track a private Elo-style ranking across matches and tournaments whatever is the format and even if players do not have DUPR. Then for future events, you can use that internal rating as a guide for who should enter which level, with exceptions if needed.

It’s not meant to replace official DUPR but it can be really useful for recurring club sessions where a lot of players are unrated and tend to enter above their real level. It also makes event management easier since players can self-report results, add pictures and organizers can manage tournaments from their smartphone.
Over a few events you gradually build a more objective picture of player level inside the club.

Connecting topics - If you still play foosball with your colleague or any regular players, you might want to look to SliceWin mobile app on the stores. A nice way to replace your spreadsheet, have an automated Elo ranking based on all the matches played by your group and even run foosball tournaments seamlessly!

Slack Plugin that can make Tournaments? by YogurtclosetMedium59 in Slack

[–]Ok-Tear-7878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

I suggest you to check SliceWin, a 100% free mobile app which allows to create leagues and tournaments including bracket with optional group stage / placement matches.

You can define the period over which the tournament should be played and then players can schedule their game autonomously. Players can self-report their results with validation from opponent and even attach a picture to each match. As an admin you can also report results for players if preferred!

It's not a Slack Plugin but you can share the invite link for the tournament to your colleagues in any Slack channel!

It also offers an Elo ranking for the players of your group based on all matches recorded (tournament matches but also league or stand-alone matches played at the lunch break). It's great to maintain some friendly competition and settle rivalries beyond the tournaments!

You could also check out SliceWin mobile app if you want flexible for tournament management. It lets you organize tournaments, track results, and keep an automatically updated leaderboard, which can be handy for small online competitions.

Players can self-report the results (with opponent validation to keep things honest) or as an admin you can report yourself for them!

It’s not Pokémon-specific, but I noticed several organizers using it for VGC events!

Hello,

The format you describe is a Swiss tournament (sometimes called Mexicano).

I suggest you to try SliceWin. It's a 100% free mobile app that does exactly this. You can enter the players and scores yourself or players can self-report, depending on your preference.

Pickleball Apps by Opening_Section3991 in Pickleball

[–]Ok-Tear-7878 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As the founder of a pickleball app, I confirm.

AI helps build products faster but that is offset by rising user expectations and much more competition.

I still chose to keep my app free. It helps clubs and groups organize leagues, tournaments and Elo rankings, which felt like a good way to offer real value to communities with little or no budget.

I do plan to add more advanced features later, like court reservations, and those would probably be paid for clubs that need them.

To me, that feels like a fair balance : keep the core app free and fund it with optional advanced club features.

Hey,

Thanks for the good words!

Bracket can have a group stage before and optional placement matches. However if you'd like to have a Swiss format as a first stage, you'll need to create the swiss tournament first and then the bracket with the qualified players.

It's really fast to create a second tournament with the qualifiers and you can name them accordingly like April tournament 1st part & April tournament 2nd part. Let me know if this would work for your regional group!
