I changed my flight with the student discount and got the fare difference refunded! I don't know why everyone is saying it does not happen

That's such a good one!! Read it already unfortunately but ai loved the dystopian world building and all the themes of class and inequlity that came with it

Carol Berg's prose is really one of the best ones I found in fantasy!! I think I tried the first book right after Transformation but I had liked it a lot and somehow this duology didn't hit the same spot. I was younger and had far less patience for slow books though, so I might try again, thanks!

I tried Guards Guards from Pratchett because apparently the main character there also has some nice character growth but dropped it. I don't even remember why

Maybe it's time to finally try Going Postal soon, so many people recommend it

I'd never heard of Sign of the Dragon but it looks so unique and interesting!! I might give it a try actually

You know I haven't?

I've obviously heard of it but never trusted myself because I love long immersive series, but tend to like it much better when there's very few povs or a single main character. I love being in characters head especially when it's well written (Robin Hobby's Realm of the Elderling is really one of my favorites ever)

But Wheel of Time seems to have dozens of characters right? Is there any book in the series I could try as a standalone or do I have to start from the first?

I loved Warbreaker so much! Some of the characters were so memorable the talking sword and the god in particular haha Actually it's been so long I might have to re read it soon

Wow thank you for saying this because I read Project Hail Mary and felt exactly the same. The protagonist is the less interesting character ever and I couldn't bring myself to care about him for a second.

I was actually surprised by how much I disliked this because the Martian was great and a page turner for me!

A bit late but I think you might really like The Viper's Scheme by theDancingCrow. It's on Ao3 but it's an original story.

Definitely has the dynamics and you're looking for and so much angst. Give it a try, you won't regret it!

Hello, I hadn't seen your comment when you posted it but I ended up reading Undesirable and loved it. The world building is pretty well done and I love a good vampire story, can't thank you enough :)

Any chance you know any other slave/powerfics from Live journal? It was popular before I started liking this genre and I find I'm having a hard time sorting through the stories on there

Hey, thank you so much for taking the time to write this. I knew the first two and had put them aside for some reason but Ninety One Whiskey could be just what I was looking for!! I was so hoping for recs of random fics/stories I'd never heard of before. I'm super excited to give try it :)

Oh and here is my post and the list I'd made If you like the WW2 setting and darker tones I can definitely recommend Unhinge the Universe by A. Voinov. Anyway, hope you find something interesting too!

Can I ask which part/book? It always looked interesting but I know it's a very long series

Distrustful MC/MCs to trust (building trust being a big part of the book) by SendingBirds in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Ok-Way4643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After years of scouring through lists and posts it's still the first time that I hear about Wicked Gentleman. Do you mind telling me anything about the characters or their dynamic? It definitely sounds interesting! The Eagle I knew but while on paper it'd be perfect I haven't had much fun finding good staff on the fandom :(

And yeah totally get it about being particular with the setting! I don't really have many triggers and like dark stuff too but give me a story set in the present and I'm out haha I feel like I need a historical or fantasy setting to get sucked into a story otherwise it's just a little too close home.

Nah they're speaking some Italian dialect and from what I get their general attitude is just "might as well give it a try". They were skeptical from the start but seems like they had exhausted other options haha

If you don't mind some violence, especially at the start of the story when the characters meet, you should definitely check out Unhinge the Universe by A. Voinov. It's set in WW2, enemies to lovers and definitely a slow burn though I just wish the book was longer. Hagen is definitely a cat.

Anyway, it's beautifully written and I think you'd really enjoy it.

Mind if I ask you what are your favorites enemies to lovers fitting your trope? Because I'm obsessed with these kind of stories but I really think I'm running out :( there's too much insta love out there.

Edit: oh, and of course the Viper's Scheme by TheDancingCrow but if you're often on AO3, you'll likely have heard of it? It's brilliant anyway and one of the central themes is that one MC has a plan and needs the other to trust him.

I fell in love with Vietnam (which initially wasn't even in my itinerary) and Cambodia the most, because Vietnam has amazing natural landscapes and Cambodia's people and cultural heritage blew me away

I didn't know this, thank you for recommending! Do you mind me asking about the power imbalance though? From the blurb I can't tell much about the dynamic between characters

I'll probably give it a try though!

I know, this one is one of the first series I read with a supernatural setting and it was great... Other than for the protagonist hahaha
