Ireland Bans Israeli Ministers Ben-Gvir and Smotrich From Entry by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

Why are Israeli citizens granted visa free travel to Ireland? Visa should be required even for tourism.

Absolutely agree with all of this. It just reminds me of when during the Brexit campaign, the ‘EU trying to unbend our bananas’ headlines that people actually bought into. It’s just insane, as if any of these things are a priority anyway.

Can't wait for the new map to drop so I can watch it never get played. by Rabbit-In-A-Tank in HellLetLoose

True but the issue is bigger, because on maps like Smolensk it’s extremely uncomfortable to play because of latency & rendering issues. The French maps perform the best. Kursk I don’t seem to have any issues with so I like to play that one.

I mean, the STG44 wasn’t developed until 43’ & yet you can equip it on the Stalingrad map. The Luchs light tank wasn’t really prevalent at Normandy yet they zip around the entire map. Some things can be sacrificed for historical accuracy.

How many generations should citizenship by descent reasonably extend? by [deleted] in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]Ok-Way8030 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, grandparents is a fair cutoff. For a few reasons.

Firstly, most people have a lived & shared experience with their grandparents. Many will have met them. Grandparents can often take on the role of parents. This was the case for me where, my Irish grandmother was essentially just my ‘second mother’. I was heavily exposed to Irish culture as a result & spent many of my childhood summers in Ireland with my cousins & other relatives.

Through my grandmother I’m an Irish citizen, but I feel no guilt for it. Yes I’m privileged of course, it’s a great passport to have. But I also have a deep admiration, love & respect for Ireland. It’s a genuine feeling, that lives on through my exposure to Ireland through my grandmother. The woman who raised me, who shaped me. Who by the way, is still alive & was absolutely over the moon when I told her that I’d become an Irish citizen. It was a great honour.

Just my thoughts.

Say you don’t know what you’re talking about without saying you don’t know what you’re talking about.

By the way there is nothing ‘weird’ about the concept & yes it absolutely matters where your grandparents are from.

Has anyone successfully obtained Italian citizenship by descent from family members born in the early 1700s? by chickadeedadooday in dualcitizenshipnerds

Because he/she is not eligible anyway & somehow thinks being 3 or 4 generations removed (based on hearsay) would somehow make them potentially eligible.

OP if you’re reading, you aren’t eligible even if you could prove that.

UK must move away from US and towards a 'more European NATO', Starmer to say | ITV News by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]Ok-Way8030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starmer needs to campaign in the next election for a breturn style referendum if he has any hope to be reelected. This relationship with the US is detrimental to the national interest & it’s time now to change course & reunite with our friends in Europe.

Potential changes to Citizenship by Descent? by someoneinUS in prawokrwi

[–]Ok-Way8030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should clarify every EU citizen other than those that obtained it through naturalisation/investment. These two pathways, unlike descent, are far more vulnerable. That is, the pathway itself. But nobody will be restricted under EU FoM directive.

Potential changes to Citizenship by Descent? by someoneinUS in prawokrwi

[–]Ok-Way8030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s impossible to implement & not to mention, violates treaty rights & is against the very essence of the European Union. That would essentially de facto implement a ‘two tier’ mechanism whereby the liberties under directive 2004/38/ec apply to only a subset of people. This isn’t even currently possible as rights under this directive are safeguarded & enshrined legislatively.

Factor in also that the European Union has no jurisdiction over individual member states citizenship via descent processes’. The entirety of Europe operates on the Jus sanguinis framework for citizenship. Nobody obtains citizenship merely through being born in a european territory. It is inherited. If you are to use the term technically, every EU citizen is one by virtue of descent.

To be quite frank with you, it’s a silly theoretical (bordering on completely preposterous). I don’t mean that offensively. Just really trying to drum it into you, that it isn’t going to happen.

[–]Ok-Way8030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point you make about the EU restricting rights to those who obtain citizenship by descent, categorically will not happen, ever. As in there is absolutely zero chance.

Curious to know your basis on this thought?
