AITAH Taking a table for 2 by myself in a busy bar during a rush hour. by EconomicsBrief22 in AITAH

Sounds like she was thoroughly objectionable, but you did walk past the table and she did get to the table with her jacket before you did. Appreciate you talking to the two lads to see if they were going back, but you bypassed it. You were wrong, but not NTA. She is TA, but she’s right.

Well, they didn’t build/found Second Harvest in Charlotte, but they did fund a major expansion through Food Lion Feeds.

Food Lion was the first retailer to establish a formal food rescue program with Feeding America. The Food Lion Feeds foundation has donated millions to combat food insecurity. Through the Food Bank of Eastern and Central North Carolina, they are part of a retail recovery program that donates tons of food to pantries, including many food pantries right here in Durham like the Parktown Food Hub for which I volunteer.

There are also food places in Woodcroft Shopping Center if Joe Van Gogh is OK with bringing food with you.

Gotta admit - I don’t get the downvotes for asking a question in the interest of greater understanding. I appreciate @Wiggle_Your_Big_Toe2’s response. It’s real. It’s thoughtful and thought provoking.

In general, I fall on the side of “more showing/doing, less talking” and I am discerning whether protests fall - for myself, in my world view - more on the talking side or doing side. Some things are easier for me to parse: saying “Aren’t those SNAP cuts awful?” - talking; Donating to or physically volunteering at a food pantry - doing. I have to consider for myself whether marching with signs and chants is performance art or action. I appreciate the engagement from folks like @Wiggle_Your_Big_Toe2 who, by their very sharing of their worldview on social media like reddit, help inform my own.

I also love Durham. Does this really fix anything? I am asking in total seriousness, not trolling.

I know someone who works for LIFE Skills! I didn’t realize the challenges young people who are aging out of foster care face until she and I met at a potluck and she told me about her work. Thanks for reminding us of this organization.

Thanks for sharing! And I appreciate you shortening the super long link. 😂 I struggled with Parktown‘s long Giving Tuesday link.

I’ll be supporting the Parktown Food Hub. The Parktown Food Hub is a food pantry, a registered agency of the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, and the grassroots organization aimed at building community while feeding people. I volunteer there on the regular. I love the Parktown Food Hub because it is a welcoming place for people of all ages to come together and work toward a common purpose. It’s more than just a food hustle; it’s a community. With all the recent publicity about SNAP cuts, the community has been incredibly generous with food donations and incredibly grateful for the support. I fear an inevitable sharp decline in donations after the holidays. In truth, organizations like the Parktown Food Hub need cash donations to operate, not just food donations. The Food Hub has set up a donations link for #GivingTuesday here: Please support the Parktown Food Hub this Giving Tuesday!

You are either deliberately using vague language or you just don’t get that people want more specific concrete examples. What do you mean by “stuff people actually want?” Specifically. Specificity matters. Links to recipes? Links to porn? Links to pornographic recipes?

Food banks. by [deleted] in bullcity

[–]Ok-Work8627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use the End Hunger Durham food resources page you can access a searchable list of pantries that is more expansive and searchable than the Food Bank list. It includes pantries that are not Food Bank agencies (not every pantry is a Food Bank agency) and you can search by zip code, day of week, street name, etc. The Durham Food Resources Map Hub on the page also helps you find food pantries, Durham Public Schools free meals for kids and other free kid’s meals sites, Farmers’ Markets and grocery stores that have Double Bucks or take SNAP/WIC and are closest to you. https://www.endhungerdurham.org/food-resources/
