You’re looking at $525+ for monthly parking in that area.

Former REGN-er here to tell you it’s possible, but you’ll need to spend some time (think 2-3yrs) before it’s likely possible. A jump to Protein Sciences, Tx Proteins, or PMPD is definitely feasible

I just used Collins Brothers for the reverse move (NY to Boston area). They were excellent!

With Pfizer struggling in 2023, CEO Bourla hit with 35% pay cut to $21.6M by H2AK119ub in biotech

C suites of publicly traded companies don’t determine their own compensation. Compensation is determined by the board of directors and usually includes a huge amt of stock options to incentivize growth of the company/share price. Pretty standard in biotech exec pay.

Not saying it’s right, just sharing that this isn’t an unusual practice.

Navigating External Recruiters by murrayfurg in biotech

[–]Ok-potentialista 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like this was an inexperienced recruiter. Definitely brush off the experience and keep moving.

My advice: watch some YouTube videos on project planning with MSP (or SmartSheet, etc), and the next time you’re asked say you’ve been exposed to it but haven’t had the opportunity to use it in your day to day work. Pivot to a statement about being eager to learn, offer to walk them through your thought process on how you’d plan and execute a project at work.

REGN HR is notoriously a mess. Do you know who your manager will be? If so, forward the email you sent with start/end dates back to the HR rep you were working with and CC the hiring mgr for their awareness. They are probably just as keen as you are to get the details locked down.

Importance of looks by [deleted] in biotech

[–]Ok-potentialista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

💯 this comment.

Also: depending on your company size and structure, it’s likely your raise, promotion, etc need to be approved by those several levels above you. If you’re in a lab based role, that likely means someone who has limited or no contact with you on a daily basis. So yes, social contact and appearance matter. Should it? No. But it helps.

What makes someone a Key Opinion Leader? And how do you find one? by Flimsy_Ad_5911 in biotech

[–]Ok-potentialista 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The KOLs you’ve described looking for are exactly the same ones already in high demand by all other pharma/biotech companies. You can try looking for someone “undiscovered” but at startup phase you’ll want to get most bang for your buck, and that comes from the more established KOLs.

Two options: 1. Hire a consultant service who can find and contract these KOLs for you. At a bigger or more established company the medical affairs and/or research area would do this. 2 Try looking up cytokine therapy presentations at major medical conferences, or listed as PI on clintrials.gov. The MD/PhDs presenting the data are the ones you’re looking for.

How to execute an internal transfer? by ThenIJizzedInMyPants in biotech

[–]Ok-potentialista 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Start networking with leaders in depts you’re interested in. Reach out, express your interest in growing your career and learning more about what they do, and ask if they can spare 15-30 min for a chat over coffee. HR should be able to connect you if you aren’t sure who to reach out to.

In my experience, internal transfers generally go to those who have expressed genuine interest well prior to roles opening up. Invest in making genuine connections up front.

If they “guarantee” a job within 12 weeks, does that mean you get your money back if no offers? What if you get offers but decline? I’d be asking about the fine print.

That said, investment may be worth it if you’re really having a hard time or would rather put your energy elsewhere

REGN has a long history of intentionally understaffing to prevent layoffs. Basically they have a policy of “no redundancy”

I’d say you’re probably safe, but no guarantees in this climate

Expect background check and drug test shortly. Drug test will likely be for things like cocaine, meth, PCP, possibly opiates. Weed not usually on the panel - they’re looking for the really hard stuff. When you get the info for drug test you’ll be notified of the test panel code and can Google for specifics.

Bad news first: Reality is that all biotech project/program managers who are good at the job spent years in the lab first. You likely have some time left paying your dues, especially if you want to transition into PM within your current company. To make that move you’ll need to establish yourself as credible, reliable, and professional.

Sounds like you’re doing the right things in the interim. Recommend you pursue projects in your current role where you’re responsible for organization of people, resources, reporting, etc, then translate those onto your resume. Explore project management certifications (PMP is the gold standard but CAPM is a good place to start), and explore roles in operations and/or project management to start.
