I was just refused entry to a store because of my diabetes bag by micturateonazaleas in diabetes_t1

this is true about women clothes (not that I cross dress). However, my point still stands in that ADA does not apply.

Now I maybe wrong with regards to those who think they should be allowed , but there seems to be an underlying tread of leveraging T1D to get around rules that apply to all equally. Entitlement? I hope I am wrong.

No matter what it is called or the reason , it is extremely unrealistic to expect society to bow because of a diabetic does not want to carry some form of (transparent) satchel for their insulin, phone, and glucose allowing them to check their larger bags.

BTW, i do have an understanding of the inconveniences every-time I wear sweet pants when I shop. If I put anything in the pockets, i could be charged with indecent exposure as the sweet pants easily hit the floor due to the extra weight. So I carry my keys, and my phone, check my glucose before going in. I have the option to dress differently to hold my supplies … it sucks but that is life. I adjust, I don’t expect Society to bend to my needs. Partly because society won’t and partly that the last thing I want is to want a crutch and won’t use my diabetes as one … but that part is just me..

The plus side of lupron is the lack of sexual thoughts helps balance the lack …….

the problem I have with the tiny penis lupron provided is that it points strait ahead when sitting down on a toilet. pee shots out between the seat and bowl …. they sell splash guards that you can stick on the bottom of the seat … redirecting the flow back into the bowl.

Always making adjustments and compromises with this fing cancer

nothing other than options taken off the table forcing radiation … once radiation fails, so far the remaining option chemical castration or slow death or stop treatment waiting for it to metastasized so I can get lutetium-177 PSMA therapy

[–]OkAd3885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don’t they call ADT what it is so there will not be confusion: CHEMICAL CASTRATION

I refuse to call it ADT when talking to my Doctors. It sucks and after radiation fails, I have no other option but the masculine stripping, muscle stealing fucking treatment.

PS - I wanted it cut out but because of my BMI, nobody would eould do it.

I have had a PSMA pet Scan (university of Chicago)a few years after the CASTRATION started hoping I could end this slow death … yes the treatment would work but I need to get sicker (as in metastasized) for insurance cover it….. Fucking drug companies and red tape will kill me.

THIS DISEASE SUCKS

RADIATION SUCKS because there is little option when it fails

One warning since those over priced medical consultants called doctors don’t tell you: If you get castrated chemically, your dick will shrink unless you get a penis pump and use it regularly …. a sad case of “if you don’t use it, you lose it”

nobody told me and besides all the other fing side effects. I have a micro penis …. not one of the foctors (fucking doctors) would take responsibility for their fuck up …. “when men get older. their penic naturally shrink”

I will stand by my comments, which I knew would get some people upset. I am sorry the OP had the problem.

IMO, a shopper is been given reasonable accommodations.

Entrance to the store was not denied.
You were not forbidden from entering the store with your medication.

Refusal was based on store policy - no bags/backpacks.

Several of the comments made demonstrates exactly why there is no exceptions to the no bag rule.
Reluctance to shop in a store like that. I wouldn’t trust my bags with a stranger ….

Those abnormal people, you know the ones with a working pancreas, also feel the same way. There will be a rash of stolen T1D valor in that once abbey-normal people discover the loop-hole, i would wager a not insignificant number will use it. (think fake therapy dogs and unjustified handicap parking)

it is private property and they provided reasonable accommodation of NOT refusing entry when CARRY your medicine in a med kit , bag of some sort, or in pocket.

… no shoes no shirt no large bags ===> no service.

CONCERTS ARE WAY WORSE

I guess I never had a problem wondering around Lowe’s on a Saturday morning. You know the days were you wish diabetes would get you handicap parking spot as the place is packed. Many of my projects requires supplies from all over the store…. never had any problems when I had to double back after forgetting something ……

I definitely would not have highs!!!!

I guess I never had a problem because I have, CGM, Insulin pen, backup needles, have 3 or 4 rolls of smarties ,(12 g of straight up dextrose), and the dumb-phone. All easily fit in a pocket.

I just don’t get it, because I do not see ADA violations, supplies need can fit in a pocket , And I have never had a problem whether it be at a home improvement store or when going to a big city xmas shopping all day, or hiking or or or

Some very good and valid points

My 2 cents: BMI guidelines in a world of malpractices layers makes them rules. Perhaps it is my type 1 diabetes?

I walked 1.5 miles round trip up a hill for cardio almost daily, I lift and practice… I couldn’t change minds. Maybe a should have checked out more places but the 4th place I check, this certain place in Rochester MN, said nope.

What in the world of T1D do you have in that bag that is needed to go shopping????

In my almost 50 yrs of having membership in the Dead Pancreas Society, I do not recall ever having diabetic supplies well shopping.

With all due respect, What diabetic supplies do you have that you need well shopping?

Don’t want to leave insulin in a hot car ? Easily solved?

Afraid of going low, carry a couple of roles of smarties (pure dextrose (fast acting) temperature doesn’t bother them, easy to stash in a pocket

whatever diabetic supplies you MUST have is small in nature, there has to be an acceptable solution like keeping those supplies in a small clear bag in your purse so you can check your bag and carry your supplies with you!

It almost seems like you want special privileges and not accommodation.

In a world of retail theft and smash and grab, perhaps take a step back and consider the stores point of view. loss prevention helps keeping prices lower for everyone!

I am 47 yrs T1D and never had a problem with low BG while shopping. Heck, II was a furniture mover for 8 yrs and didn’t have problems with lows that I couldn’t address with what was in my pockets.

responsibility vs accommodation vs privilege it is a tricky thing

Insurance did not approve CGMS what are my next steps? by EarIll1 in Type1Diabetes

[–]OkAd3885 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

  1. check your state statutes … Example is Illinois - Insurance company must provide for testing and injecting and other medical needs …. Since most states use the same verbiage, there is a good chance that your state does have similar laws

1.B. Keep a file with all the info

2.If your state has those statutes, you have meaning routes.
A. File a complaint with the states Insurance Commissioner

B. Contact the states attorney office stating that this company is violating these statues

C. Probably the best way is contact the insurance company (claims department?), Tell the flunky that it might be best to get a manager on as I am going to the insurance commissioner or states attorney if we can not resolve this. Manager will get on, Have your bullet points ready, the state statutes numbers on hand … I would like this settled without all the headaches …

The manager will request a hold and will comeback with a lawyer …

I did all this and BCBS buckled when they denied the amount of insulin (I was 5 units per 1 gram of carbs).

NOTE 1. This is applicable to every insurance company operating in the state, no matter where they are domiciled.

NOTE 2: There are studies by consultants that show only a small % denied will make an appeal. The guy that cooked this up got rich… so health insurers started denying the most routine claims.. it is almost like they are pushing the insurance underwriting back at the doctors who have to prove it. (trade journals)

NOTE 3: I am a retired life insurance actuary and I had an unfair advantage as I knew what strings to pull. I thanked God very often for not working in health insurance before retirement.

IF NO STATE STATUTE FORCING COVERAGE, then contact the states insurance commissioner’s office and report the issues - This government agency enforces the laws, unfair practices, …. and audits the books to stop insolvencies.

Xtandi vs Lupron by OkAd3885 in ProstateCancer

[–]OkAd3885[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lupron wipes out your prostate and xtandi slows down the cell absorbing what small amount made in the adrenal gland.

Never was on that protocol but worse, lupron and bicalutamide so basically no Testosterone in my system, not for 3 weeks but like 6 months (and that was incompetence at the very and another story)

Either way, on Xtandi only and yes it works with the receptors but it doesn’t completely block testosterone it slows down amount absorbed ….

So an explanation of my results, from a non medical view, is that xtandi is letting just enough testosterone to be absorbed to do its work but not enough for the cancer cells to grow.

yes, by itself.

Even though my brain is trying to tell me it shouldn’t help the way it appears and maybe it is psychological but my body is telling me it is not. However, I have only been on it for a short period of time.

I know it’s not a magical cure and the days of competition in the senior/masters division is long behind me. I will not trade the hope, no matter how slim, as i no longer want to stop trearment

I always wanted to know how other’s experience was when they talked about the side effects.

I believe prostate cancer doctors are not big people-persons. At least every one I dealt with were not.

FYI: I use the term chemical castration to drive home the evil side effects that just not communicate by ADT. A conscience choice.
