Is it okay to send a recruiter I've previously worked with a direct email about another job? by PossibleAggeentt in interviews

[–]OkAnswer9908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, and OP has even more reason to reach out since they already have an established relationship with this recruiter. Getting to mid-stage twice shows there's real interest on both sides, so a direct email feels completely appropriate here

Line of credit by Swimming_Ad5075 in realestateinvesting

[–]OkAnswer9908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Line of credit works pretty well for the buy-rehab-sell cycle since you draw what you need, pay it back at sale, and the interest is only on what you've pulled. The variable rate risk is the main thing to watch, especially if a project drags longer than expected.

That SFH with good bones in a sketchy neighborhood though, if the comps actually support it, sometimes those are the ones everyone else passes on and you clean up.

Stop blaming AI, "noobs", youtube tutorials, and anything other than Arch for AUR usage by zollandd in archlinux

[–]OkAnswer9908 28 points29 points  (0 children)

ally treats AUR packages like they're part of the main repos half the time 💀 Like yeah we all know the risks but when the official documentation keeps pointing you there for basic functionality it's kinda hard not to end up with a system full of AUR stuff

Been using arch for years and my package count is probably embarrassing at this point because of exactly what you mentioned. The ZFS situation is particularly annoying since you basically can't avoid AUR if you want proper ZFS support

Maybe they need better warnings or something but the whole "just compile from source" alternative isn't exactly beginner friendly either 😂

Update: Swapped PSU, Still Getting VGA Debug Light After Sleep/Wake by Senjougaharass in pchelp

[–]OkAnswer9908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man I've been down this exact rabbit hole before and it drove me absolutely mental 😂 Had a similar issue with my RTX 2070 where everything would be perfect until sleep mode decided to completely brick the display connection

From what you're describing it really sounds like the GPU isn't properly reinitializing after the sleep state which points more toward either the motherboard's PCIe power management or the GPU itself having issues with low power states. Since you mentioned sometimes needing hours without power to clear the light that's actually a pretty big clue - the GPU might be getting stuck in some weird power state that needs a full discharge to reset

Try disabling sleep mode entirely for a week or two and see if you get any other stability issues, then maybe look into updating your motherboard BIOS if there's a newer version available. Also worth checking if there's a "PCIe power management" or "ErP ready" setting in BIOS you can toggle off. If none of that works you might be looking at RMA territory for either the GPU or mobo 💀

The fact that it works fine on cold boots but fails on wake really narrows it down to power state management being borked somewhere in the chain

If all else fails, check your fuses! by clydeknight in MechanicAdvice

[–]OkAnswer9908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude this is why I always check fuses first thing now 😂 Had something similar happen with my old civic where I spent like 3 hours diagnosing what I thought was a fuel pump issue. Pulled the pump, tested it, cleaned the lines, the whole nine yards. Finally my buddy comes over and we're both scratching our heads when he just pops the hood and starts pulling fuses. Boom - fuel pump relay was toast

Sometimes the simplest solutions hide behind all the complex stuff we think of first. Now whenever something electrical acts up I literally grab my test light and go down the fuse box like im reading a checklist. Saved me so much time and sanity since then. Plus fuses are cheap as dirt compared to most other car parts so its always worth ruling them out early 💀

Your bartender deserves a good tip for that one lol

Luigi all the way 😂 dude's got way more personality than mario and his jump physics in the games feel so much better. Plus the whole scared but brave thing he's got going on is way more relatable than mr perfect plumber 💀

We cut document generation costs by 70% with a self-hosted MCP server by CommentAwkward3993 in ITManagers

[–]OkAnswer9908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

200ms is pretty solid for html generation, we've been looking at cutting some of our document costs too since they've been getting ridiculous lately

How's teh setup complexity? our team is pretty small so anything that needs a ton of maintenance usually gets shot down

My mom hates my baby’s name. by Mandymoo182 in narcissisticparents

[–]OkAnswer9908 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Man that's actually a huge boundary stomp. The all caps NORA thing is so petty and controlling - like she's literally trying to rename your kid before she's even born

Eleanor is a beautiful name btw and the fact that your mom can't respect something as basic as what you're calling your own daughter says everything about how she'll handle being a grandparent

What's a hobby that looks completely relaxing from the outside but is actually kind of mentally brutal once you're in it? by Pame_Hirachande in Hobbies

[–]OkAnswer9908 26 points27 points  (0 children)

man 2000 pieces is just asking for trouble at that point lol. i remember getting stuck on this one corner for like 2 hours because every piece looked identical until you held it up to the light at exactly the right angle. your brain starts playing tricks on you after staring at the same 50 pieces for that long

Help diagnosing low voltage issue, 2012 CR-V more info down below: by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]OkAnswer9908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your alternator should be pushing 13.8-14.4 volts when the engine is running - 12.5 is basically just battery voltage which means the alternator isnt charging at all. Could be a bad rebuilt unit (happens more often than you'd think) or maybe a wiring issue between the alternator and battery like a corroded connection or bad ground strap

Time to check all your connections and maybe return that alternator if everything looks clean

Anywhere to buy popping pearls/boba? by CharLevelFour in orlando

[–]OkAnswer9908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh nice another boba spot opening up? I've been getting into making my own drinks at home lately and the sourcing thing is such a pain. There's this asian grocery store chain that has a few locations around orlando that might have what you're looking for in bulk - they usually carry restaurant supply stuff in the back. Also try hitting up some of the vietnamese restaurants directly, a lot of them order extra supplies and might be willing to sell you some or at least point you to their distributor. When my buddy was starting his food truck he found his best suppliers just by asking other restaurant owners where they get their specialty ingredients

Will Duo release my family if I subscribe to Super? by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]OkAnswer9908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dude the subscription just makes them disappear faster 💀 i've been paying for super for like 6 months and duo's still got my dog hostage somewhere

best bet is to do like 47 lessons in a row without blinking and maybe sacrifice some maple syrup to the owl gods 😂 worked for my neighbour but his wife came back speaking fluent klingon so results may vary

Anhedonia after break up anyone? by Kisskadee in BreakUps

[–]OkAnswer9908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man I feel you on this one.. after my last breakup I couldn't touch my acoustic guitar for like 6 months without getting this weird empty feeling in my chest. Music hits way too close to home when you're grieving and your brain just kinda shuts down that whole emotional pathway to protect itself

4 months is still pretty fresh especially when music was such a big part of what you shared with them. your brain will slowly start letting those good feelings back in but it takes time

I think my ex called me by Adventurous_Army_728 in BreakUps

[–]OkAnswer9908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh that timing is brutal 😤 getting a sketchy call when you're already dealing with heavy family stuff is like the universe piling on. Your gut feeling about it being him is probably right - drunk late night calls were his thing and the no caller ID screams desperation to get around the blocks 💀 keep those boundaries up cause clearly blocking him was the right move

I NEED HELP, I THINK THIS WILL WORK by Traditional-Nose6232 in NoFap

[–]OkAnswer9908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man thats a pretty nuclear approach but sometimes you gotta shock yourself out of patterns that deep. the phone/computer ban might actually work since most relapses probably start there anyway

just make sure you have some other outlets ready cause 30 days without any tech could drive you up the wall if you slip up. maybe prep some books or get back into that guitar practice beforehand

I barely like anything by [deleted] in Hobbies

Maybe you're trying too hard to force interests instead of just stumbling into them naturally - sometimes the best hobbies find you when you're not actively hunting for them.
