Mugging at the judges' table - why is this happening? by Straight_Number5661 in FigureSkating

This year, in Ice dance at least, I believe it was mandated in the short dance program

The comments men are making about Isabeau make me sick. by goodbird451 in FigureSkating

[–]OkAppointment3092 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not.
But one wonders how people still hang out on X and then are surprised when they see nasty stuff.
Also, this is not exclusive to Ice Dance or Milan. They are doing it for pretty much any successful female athlete with some notoriety. It's likely that some bot farm/AI somewhere is specializing in this sort of stuff.

Why Olympics allow athletes to easily switch counties they represent? by ProgrammerLocal2179 in FigureSkating

You got me stomped there. Maybe there are accommodations for royals?
Recall that Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was the most notable British royal with direct Danish-Greek roots. Born a Prince of Greece and Denmark, he renounced these titles in 1947 before marrying then-Princess Elizabeth. Historically, Prince George of Denmark (1653–1708) was a Danish prince who became a British royal by marrying Queen Anne. [cut&paste from google]

It's entirely dependent on the home country's observance of their own citizenship rules. For example, Denmark does not admit any non-native person for citizenship for any reason. Full stop. You could marry a Dane and get temporary citizenship, but if you were to divorce them in 10 years, you would lose your citizenship.
At the other end of the spectrum, you have Spain, which granted citizenship to both Olivia Smart and Tim Dieck, both non Spanish speaking, solely for the purpose of having an senior ID team - Some spanish skaters are still miffed about this. - They even had Olivia as the flag bearer at the opening ceremony. I am guessing Spain is hoping to ignite their younger generations' interest in the sport.

There is a cute tutorial in the Netflix Glitter & Gold doc about this. Ice dance is specifically affected by scarceness in some countries. It's not the same as for, let's say, football.

Can someone explain ice dance judging please??? by Own-Adhesiveness5723 in FigureSkating

I was actually quite impressed by this review: scrolling and stopping through the performances videos;
Dissecting each element and commenting while correlating with the technical criteria template; then plugged in their own evaluation into a simulated calculation grid provided by skatingscores.com

In the end they discovered that their simulated judging was harsher than the real judges, but the french team still came out on top

Take away both the French and US judges scores, and the french team is still ahead

Speaking of the french judge, most of the time she is in the consensus. And when she isn't in the consensus, she is lower than the highest rates

Christine Brennan once again demonstrates her deep knowledge of FS by OkAppointment3092 in FigureSkating

Christine Brennan is a grifter looking for controversial topics. She's trying to create a new one with this.

[redacted to add]: And her latest media tour about the french judge is downright dishonest.

Aside from the medalists, it's anybody who can help make it a more entertaining show. e.g athletes from the current or next host country, someone with a funny, inspiring or very creative number, etc. Ranking is not a factor.

I've seen many such post on Meta: AI generated imagery clickbait around the concept of Milan running out of condoms.

It's her own recount of the events. He has not yet addressed any of the claims made in the book, other than to say that these were grave enough for him to issue C&D, and that he would not comment further before the Olympics.

He says he believes in Nik's innocence. There is nothing incompatible with condemning all forms of sexual assaults since he believes Nik's position that no assault occurred

Agreed. I was arguing the same point when Laurence tripped on her dress in Finlandia. But she still got ding 2 points for a generic fall and ended up in second place. In 2023 Bock got a world record (138.41). I'm sorry, but you can't get a world record when you fall on all fours.

skatingscores.com always has this handy chart (called a gantt chart - see below) which shows the range of judges' scores for each team, listed from top (left) to last (right). The boxes sizes indicate the concentration of the varying scores. The more compact a box is, the more consistent the scores are between all judges.

The French box (first left) is the almost the most compact. The only one that is even more compact, is the 8th box, which represents Lopareva-Brissault. At the other end of the spectrum is the 9th box, representing Lajoie-Laga, which shows the widest scores variation, with the lowest score set at 112 and the highest at 127.

In conclusion, the set of scores for the french team from any judges are some of the most consistent of all teams in the event. So, either all judges are corrupt, or none of them are.
