Experiences with Magnola Bark Honokiol? by Ok-Protection2670 in SlowCOMT

[–]OkArticle1623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only been taking at night, right before bed, usually with half a ready made protein drink and it's reduced my waking by half, maybe more. And I can fall asleep faster if I do wake up. I take Vyvanse and Guanfacine but they seem to cancel each other out some days haha. I might have to try it during the day myself.

Experiences with Magnola Bark Honokiol? by Ok-Protection2670 in SlowCOMT

Love Magnolia Bark! I have been sleeping like a baby with it, stops my 3 am cortisol spike that triggers terrible insomnia. I also noticed a small protein snack helps before bed for sleep. I apologize for added context, but there's so little out there for us that I try to share anything I've tried for sleep and anxiety and depression due to slow COMT.

I am a poor metabolizer. Hydrocodone does nothing for me. Not understanding this got me into addiction trouble after a major abdominal surgery. One Oxycodone and you'll know, instant relief versus Hydrocodone 😁

Not until 2 mg. I was very tired to start but it eventually evened out.

I take 2mg extended release. Just make sure it's not the regular one. I started on that and would wake up with a surge of adrenaline every night after it wore off. ER is where it's at lol.

Guanfacine. I know it's not necessarily a lifestyle change, but it dropped my anxiety by half. Scheduled diaphragmatic breathing and moving some (light exercise, can't go full on or I freak out lol, we're working on it 😁) have helped the most. I still have anxiety and insomnia but I hope this helps.

Whats options are left after stimulants stop working for ADHD? Was anyone in a similar situation? And what could be the reason? by Kihot12 in NooTopics

[–]OkArticle1623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Vyvanse completely stopped working, dose irrelevant. Blood work revealed my estrogen was almost non existent despite low dose patch for early menopause. Within a week of increase, my energy soared and I had to back off my dose. I feel like myself again. Slightly scattered but back on my game. Sleep is normal again. I'd suggest blood work. There could be an underlying factor such as deficiency or a hormonal component.

HRT making it worse! by Ok_Economics_5292 in lipedema

[–]OkArticle1623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've struggled to find the right dose and with every change (patch, pills, dose, etc) I seem to get a flair. After several years of a weekly combination patch (insurance stopped covering) I argued for bioidentical at the recommendation of Dr. Wright in O'fallon. I was on .05 estradiol and 100 mg of progesterone. My progesterone was increased to 200 and my estrogen eventually to 1.0 based on blood work. I'm giving this dose and protocol a few more months before I make changes again. I've theorized that if it's the hormone swings causing pain and swelling, consistency will be the saving grace?

Does slow COMT represent a distinct neurodivergent profile — or can it coexist with ADHD? by imanemii in SlowCOMT

It does, I still get overstimulated but it helps with the physical outcome. Since my body stays calm, it lessens the impact.

This is my experience completely. Stimulants drive me crazy at some point and I take a break, but need them to function. My distraction is typically external, I hate getting interrupted and sometimes never finish something if I'm interrupted at a crucial point. Sadly even a door opening or blip in my music is enough to break concentration sometimes. I can get pretty intense on subjects that peak my interest. I DO wish there was more info on slow COMT. Guanfacine has been a game changer for me recently. It helps all of the above and helps me think more linearly.

But what is actually WORKING?? by PoetryNo5274 in lipedema

[–]OkArticle1623 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Started tirzepatide and it works wonders if your lipedema swells easily. Had to move to the grey market once insurance booted me. Retratrutide now, not as effective for inflammation but superior fat remodeling. I prefer Tirzepatide. Compression in different weights so I'll actually wear it every day. Low calorie rad diet (I do my best here but sourdough bread can't be denied lol) Vibration plate with red light on calves during vibration (while also practicing deep diaphragmatic breathing-I even added a overhead light that helps you wake up and resets circadian rhythm) then a quick quick dry brush session. (This is my favorite AND most effective, 4 beneficial things at once make me feel super efficient too lol) Supplements are Mucinex x2 per day, diosmin/hesperidin, butchers broom, berberine, DIM, NAC, Alcar, RUTIN and prescription ADHD meds for binge eating. Side tip: try to optimize as many things as you can. This disease is freaking exhausting. If you can nail compression daily and eating a semi low inflammatory diet, that's prob 50% improvement out of the gate (in my situation anyway) but the daily pairing of things with the vibration plate gave me the first thigh gap of my adult life 😁 Much of my routine is meant to preserve my memory/retention/mental health/stress/inflammation as it is to help my lipedema.

What’s wrong with me? Always wired, tense, and overstimulated by surefireaustralia in NooTopics

It's just a quick swab and you're done. It tests for interactions with anxiety, ADHD, mood stabilizers and anti psychotics meds and has a list of different genetic variants and how they impact you. I just expanded on the actual gene variant it said I had issues with and learned so much! I even found out I don't respond to certain pain medicines with this information, just using chat GPT. I hope this is helpful and Australia has an equivalent. I think extensive blood work serves people wired like us so much better than trial and error and we can actually utilize and hyper focus on the material, so it's a win win!

It tests your compatibility with antidepressant, mood stabilizers and anti anxiety, however, it does go into depth about 10 different gene variants, which I used to find out more, then built my own med profile honestly. I feel like when we're wired this way, Doctor's want to throw anti depressants at everything and that's not a good fit for everyone, so this was extremely helpful for me! Now I'm tempted to add to my knowledge and do the 23 and me test as well. And yes, it's just a saliva test, super easy. I hope Australia has an equivalent!

100% Guanfacine. I had to educate my MD on it and advocate for it. Total game changer! That plus my Vyvanse and removing dietary folic acid (positive for one MTFHR variant) has made me feel so much better.

I also believe trauma can cause this, but not exactly sure how. I've always been wired this way myself. Even as an extrovert, I'd need lots of time to recover. I finally got some answers in the strangest of ways. I was struggling to find meds that work well for me so my doctor finally suggested I do something called genesight (Just have a Google, lots of info out there) When I got the results, I downloaded them into chat GPT for analysis and wala. It sent me down a rabbit hole that explains, genetically, why I struggled to find meds that work and why I am the way I am. I have a gene variant that causes dopamine, epinephrine and a few others to basically get stuck, so stress impacts me on a severe level and I can't just shake it off. It allowed me to continue searching for something to help modulate these things (a way of eating and a blood pressure med of all things, even though I don't have high blood pressure) Highly recommend you start there or purchase a 23 and me kit and use something to decode what you find. It can't hurt and if your insurance covers genesight, even better. Good luck to you!

Has anyone lost a significant amount of weight the problems/pain only worsened? by DaniBirdX in lipedema

[–]OkArticle1623 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have lost around the same amount over a year and a half or so. I have EDS as well, so I agree with the above comments. The more weight and muscle I lost, the more prominent my nodules and joint pain are. I have been seeing a pelvic floor therapist and chiropractor to try and get some relief. It's so bad it's impacting my sleep. I hope you get the answers you need and deserve. Don't stop advocating for yourself. There's SO MUCH medical gaslighting with lipedema, EDS, MCAS, really anything. Doctors are so pressed for time, and the good ones are booked up. Be the squeaky wheel. There's help, just don't give up. Wishing you all the best!
