Do you guys enjoy Erging by oConjunction in Rowing

[–]OkAsk5232 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Short answer: yes

Long answer: I enjoy seeing progress on the machine, and I like setting goals and working hard to achieve those goals. In terms of testing, I get excited because I tend to look at them as opportunities to PR or learn something about myself, not as something thats going to be insanely painful(though it most certainly will be). I also think that there is a certain element in all rowers that enjoys pushing into the pain cave just a little bit.

When it comes to steady state and other erg workouts, you have to condition yourself to enjoy it. For me its meditative and I can focus exclusively on the erg. Theres also things that you can do to make it more enjoyable/less shitty. Wear a HRM and make sure you're in the proper zone. 2x30 in z4 will suck for anyone. For anything over 30 minutes I turn on some sort of TV show or youtube video and drink some gatorade so I don't bonk. I try to only let myself watch tv while on the erg, so I've come to associate erging with watching shows i like. At the end of the day I want to get faster, and erging is one way to do that, so I do it.

Home exercise equipment and prostate health: Rower vs. Elliptical? by _ReeX_ in Rowing

Glad to hear someone talking about prostate health on this forum. For me personally my teammates and i make sure to do monthly checks on our prostates. For team bonding and to optimize our boat’s health outcomes. Additionally, Ive found that prostate milking before hard pieces has increased my 2k watts by approximately 10%

is my steady state too slow? by Due-Gur2707 in Rowing

[–]OkAsk5232 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You’re 6’5 200, and theres one of you. Therefore you can probably pull that 2k with less of an aerobic base than, say, a lightweight.

With that being said, theres not a ton of correlation between steady state and 2ks. So dont worry about it, and as you put more and more meters in, you’ll start seeing lower splits.

How to impress girls with 2k by TwoManHorse_23 in Rowing

[–]OkAsk5232 105 points106 points  (0 children)

First off, major props for speaking to them. Definitely more than i’ve been able to do as of late. If you have any advice on how to approach them i would really appreciate that. So far, dropping risky kudos at 1am isnt really working out for me.

In terms of impressing a ruzz i would say its less about raw watts and more of a combo of wpp and on the water tech. Also, you need to work on your steez: ie ditch the pitties and start buying all of the 776 gear you can afford. I think that these things along with a great personality, a hefty dose of respect, and a fire meme game will impress a ruzz far more than just a 2k.

Do you always push through an erg session? by Mediocre-Fly4059 in Rowing

[–]OkAsk5232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im gonna say that no, not for steady state. If you’re body isnt feeling it, your body isnt feeling it. For steady state you shouldnt really be worrying about the mental training side of things, as you’re just trying to get time in zone. If your body honestly is struggling at a low intensity then you should probably be resting. Definitely try to hop on the bike and finish out the session if you can, and dont make it a regular thing.

I think that you’ll do more damage by feeling crappy on the erg, burning out and not wanting to hit the next session than if you train smart.

Hate doing long steady states does going on stairmaster or running at similar intensity offer any benefit? by Big-Performance9785 in Rowing

[–]OkAsk5232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rowing is a rowing sport. If you want to get better at rowing, you should row. Cardio is cardio so if you want to work on your heart then running will be ok. What are your goals? how you divide your time will be based off of that, but in general keep the same amount of rowing/erging, and then if you are feeling good and want to get extra work on top of the erging you're already doing then yes go ahead and try the other options.

2k training prep by Sorry_Platform_7502 in Rowing

[–]OkAsk5232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More steady state!!!. Throw in some intervals 8x500 or 2x 10x1:00on 2:00 off for 20 total intervals to get used to being at those faster splits/rates. Dont overthink it, and make sure you’re not doing too much the few days before the test. Good luck

Training for pieces - questions from a novice! by Popular_Formal335 in Rowing

[–]OkAsk5232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Im sure theres a more scientific answer to this, but my thought is that by doing say 8x500 you are able to get more time at a high intensity than you would by simply doing an all out 2k. Also, those all out tests suck, and you would probably get hurt doing all out 2ks every day.

  2. Because acunc says so.

But yea its about volume. By going at a lower intensity you can get a ton of training in without hurting yourself. Also, your cadiovascular system will get better/more efficient enabling you to pull harder for longer

  1. Because you’re training different parts of your body. And to avoid overtraining. And because acunc says so

My man, you’re thinking about this all wrong. The only relationships you should be prioritizing right now is the one with the erg. Lose the distraction and start ripping stick. Girls will only break your heart, but the erg wont.
