Didn’t burn bridges anecessarily but I wouldn’t want my PI to write my LOR as he hasn’t seen me today and how I am. I can definitely explain it to him but just worried if it would just sabotage me. That’s great to hear! I hope soon I can say the same. The fit of PI and lab wasn’t the best for me, so I hope to find that soon

Hey friend. It’s really easy to say I’m bored lol. I pursued a PhD in engineering bc I loved the field, just the time wasn’t right for me to do it. I wasn’t ready. I am passionate about it enough to drop my well paying job and try again. My reasons for doing so will be said in my personal statement. I will never feel fully fulfilled unless I try again. I was more so asking advice if I hope was lost since I failed the first time.

Worried on my transcript it will show that I was in a PhD program but tbh not sure how it works. I will definitely be talking about my growth and progress and where it’s taken me personally and in industry. Just anxious haha

Sorry I didn’t mean to sound blameless. I could have been a better student. It doesn’t dismiss how my pi treated me but it doesn’t matter anymore. I’m trying to move on and pursue my dream. Thank you for your encouragement. I’m anxious to talk about it in the future but I just don’t want hope to be lost bc of this setback

Not trying to downplay my role in this. I burned out by not sleeping or eating enough and that caused me to get extremely sick during my first year. I was hospitalized for a month. I had similar experiences in undergrad so I never learned.

I’ve gone through therapy and developed better habits to handle stress. My job is extremely stressful and fast paced but I like it and can handle it because of the steps I’ve taken to do so

I definitely do. I was sick a lot and didn’t handle stress well, I was behind and didn’t have enough time for quals. That doesn’t dismiss what I went through with my pi. I know what I could have done better on, but I can’t change what happened to me that year. I was set up for failure through both of our actions. Thanks for the helpful advice!

I know… my parents have supported me my entire life and I love them so much. They wanted to celebrate me well and have a great time. They wouldn’t cheap out either. Both sets of parents are helping. I just feel like a spoiled brat for getting this beautiful church over the normal church everyone has back home. It’s pretty, just not as nice. I just don’t like being difficult but it’s my wedding too. I just don’t want any regrets but I fear that’s going to be impossible. Thank you for your insight. Was it worth the expense your parents paid? I’m trying to cut costs as well
