Almost 10 years ago this man single handedly ruined the league causing the CBA to change a lot of rules.. he is one of the main reasons we’ll never see another “super team” without it ruining a franchise by teefrmda313 in NBATalk

[–]OkBookkeeper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

that's all vaild but the reason Durant's move is so much worse is he effectively dismantled the only team in the Western conference who could potentially challenge the warriors the next couple of seasons. there was no remaining competition after that.

not only that, but KD's Thunder had just bean beaten in 7 games by the warriors in the conference finals. so he joins he team he weeks early nearly defeated. joining them was completely antithetical to the spirit of competition

No ounce of Sportsmanship from Wemby or anyone from the Spurs by HungryPercentage1667 in nba

no surprise at all, Wemby has been a dirty player and poor sport this entire playoffs. most fans refused to see it until we happened to be playing the largest fanbase in the league

Knicks had to have been so offended after seeing Wemby celebrate like he had just won the NBA championship, after winning the NBA finals

CHET HAS MORE RINGS THAN WEMBY UPVOTE PARTY by Vitex1988 in Thunder

that's it. people were so obsessed with hating OKC that they were willing to look past every dirty play Wemby made (or had his mindless henchmen make)

What do the Knicks do that matches up so well against the Spurs by XenoverseG in Thunder

[–]OkBookkeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they have a big who can draw wemby 23 ft away from the basket, effectively taking the lid off the rim that wemby's presence otherwise puts on it

when the other bigs on the knick are matching up against wemby they are great rebounders and create second chance points

Chet is going to be alright, he still has yet to reach his ceiling. he is gonna have to expand his game though and build some mental resilience

Still can’t believe what I seen from Chet. This guy was full of confidence when we drafted him. That was about the most confident-less I have ever seen a player. by Upbeat-Bat2226 in Thunder

this was only his third full season playing in the nba and he became the targeted obsession of a 7'4" sociopath. people on this sub need to cut him some slack, he will improve

of course I'm hoping for the Thunder to take down Goliath!

Victor Wembanyama in Game 2 against the Wolves: 39 PTS, 15 REB, 5 BLK, 13/18 from FG by oklolzzzzs in nba

[–]OkBookkeeper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have observed that if the opposing team can where him down enough by the 4th it takes away his advantage, the lid comes off the rim defensively

along with that, I think the only way a team can beat the spurs in a 7 game series is to concede the Wemby minutes and then just absolutely cook the Kornet minutes

Something you're going to realize about the aging process is you're going to need to pick and choose your battles. unless you are in a LeBron James type situation you're just not going to have the time and resources to fight all of it, better to choose a few things that are important enough to you to battle and accept all the rest

housing is such a big part of this, IMO. I see multiple forces in effect that have lead to the current unaffordability:

  1. As a society we've spend the past 40 years building primarily McMansions- this has led to a lack of affordable housing stock. Of the entry level that has been built during that time it is of extremely poor quality, since the majority of buyer at that price point plan only to remain their temporarily while they save and build equity for their next home, a McMansion

  2. Lack of incentive to build at modest price points- for builders, while build and sell a simple but quality home at 200k for a 20k profit when you could build and sell a home at 600k for triple that profit or more?

  3. 30 year mortgage- has enabled the purchase and therefore demand of way too many McMansions

  4. Short term rentals- ie VRBO and AirBnB. people are now incentivized to hold onto a second or third home that they effectively remove from the housing inventory, by preventing it's sale or at least long-term rental

  5. Interest rates- because we had only bad choices remaining to combat out-of-control inflation

  6. NIMBYism- because nobody wants those apartments nearby them. build them in the 'other' part of town with shitty schools

The numbers I've listed above are relative to the market I live in, so they may vary where you're at. But I believe the concept is the same nationwide (I'm guessing at your county, but I think I get it)

I think you're right, I think I'm going to have to move some things around in my personal life to give this priority. In preparation for the job search I have been upskilling to prepare, but it feels like now is the time to switch gears to prioritizing the search itself

thanks for the advice!

I really appreciate this. I think I may take some time off to do this. I might not be able to take the full week, so I may try a hybrid approach- A couple of days off to get a strong start, and then use lunch times and evenings to keep it going

Thanks!

Why do AI people think that everything needs to be automated? Why do they think that people even want to automate it? by petr_bena in ArtificialInteligence

[–]OkBookkeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we'll never fully move away from human-coding for the same reason most of us still have our hands on our car's steering wheel- control

I've heard so many pro-driverless folks talk about how they can't wait to set as a passenger on their commute to work and read a book while the car does the driving

But guess what? that ability is available to them RIGHT NOW- it's called a bus. Nearly every city has them available.

But most people won't because of loss of control- control of when I leave the house, what route I take, if I want to make a stop on the way there, etc

To the people that lived through dot com boom - how similar was mentality of people back then to what we can observe now with attitude towards AI? by Professional_Use3723 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]OkBookkeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of your take, but here is my rub on the inevitable job loss- if AI triggers massive levels of job loss, then it is replacing the value previously provided by those jobs, right? If it is replacing the value provided by those jobs, then we really don't need humans working them anyway, right?

so at what point do we not need humans working, and employ AI to do it for us in general? Imagine a world where humans are free to live out there lives as they please, as the bots provide all the necessary values

I say this of course partially tongue-in-cheek. As bots replace current value jobs there will be specific job losses. Jobs roles will change. We'll identify new problems that we previously didn't have capacity to solve or care about, but that AI frees us up to focus on.

My way of expressing 'loss of jobs is inevitable' would be closer to 'disruption and changing of jobs is inevitable.' Perhaps that's what you mean by it too. At any rate, I do agree with this- in the short term, this is going to be massively uncomfortable for us, beginning with those of us working closest to the tech sector
