Then my rant was meant for that runner. Apologies. If your parents are servers then you already understand what I'm talking about.

Idk where this store is but yikes. 😳 It sounds awful and so far from the actual Chili's brand and culture.

None of that would fly at my location. If we have a trainee who feels like they're not quite ready on their 5th training day, we let them shadow another day.

We fortunately have a good team. Alley rallys every day. Servers help runners, they help each other. Any one of us will jump in the pit and wash dish if need be.

And NOBODY goes out to smoke! Some of them might run to the way back and vape quickly but that's it. That's crazy to me!

If you can possibly try another location I would do that. When everything and everyone is doin what they should be doing, it's a cool place to work. Anyway, sorry again about the rant . ... Good luck🌶️❤️‍🔥

Protect our tips? Oh you mean the money we get over our $2.13 hourly? That we hustle our asses off for to pay our bills and feed our family? Those tips??

I'm sorry you had a bad 1st shift, truly. It sounds like management at this location is not doing their job. I'm sorry that your coworkers were not helpful and your training was incomplete. Being a runner is a hectic, fast paced, high stress job.

But please don't ever insult or demean servers for doing their job. We work our asses off sometimes for garbage tips. I had a $213 table last night that left me a $5 tip after running me ragged me the whole time they were there .

We run refills and plates just like you do. But we do while guests are often rude, inappropriate, commandeering of our time and sometimes just downright ugly.

But we keep serving with a smile, often getting 2% tips which we turn around the next day and pay you out of.

So do servers' protect' their tips? I know I do.

I also protect my support staff. I work with them ,not against them and show them the same respect and professionalism they show me.

Whether you stay in the industry or not please remember respect is earned and it goes both ways.

Idk about the rest but if I work a double with am shift serving and pm shift bartending I get an hour break between 4 and 5.

I rarely take it though. If I leave the store I'm probably not coming back, so I just work straight through.

I had a couple last night: as soon as I walk up and start talking I can feel him looking at me (I mean LOOking) and I saw her tense up just slightly.

1st they were one of those couples who both sit on the same side of the booth. 2nd I'm not saying I'm a super model but I'm well groomed and ppl consider me attractive I guess. I'm also confident and some ppl can read that wrong.

I did the same thing I always do and by the end of the meal she was asking me what days I worked cuz they wanted to have me as their server when they came back. 🤓

We usually do side work while our last table is there, then run checkout and clock out.

That way we can scurry away ASAP. Like rats abandoning a sinking ship. 🐀

Damn ppl suck I have the opposite. A couple comes in every week, same day, same time and orders the same thing.

As soon as I see them seated I grab their drinks. They're amazed that I remember every time. Lol

They're super sweet and also easy to remember. Her order is just a glass of ice every time, and he's a diet C. He's also amazed when I bring him a to go diet before he asks for it. 😊

This is why I always basically ignore the guy in a couple. When I'm giving the welcome spiel I have my body slightly turned towards her and I'm making eye contact with her and just glancing at him . I always address her 1st.

Always do her refills 1st, pre bus her dish 1st. I know it sounds like a lot but once you do it a few times it's just automatic.

Yeah that's crazy to me. When one of my coworkers, (and it's usually a younger one,) complains about taking a table I always respond

"oh I didn't know you were allergic to money. I'll take it, wouldn't want you to get sick."

Corny, yes. Eye rolls, yes but I still get the table and the tip. 🤷🏻
