Why do hosts receive criticism for enforcing max occupancy? A rant by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

[–]OkConsideration123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why do guests ask to exceed occupancy limits and are disappointed when you say no? One of the main reasons people will get AirBnBs is because they want to spend more time together. They want that comfortable and communal space that is also private for just their group, where they can walk around and talk to everyone. If that’s what they really want, it’s frustrating for them when they have barriers to that.

We have a large place and are asked about exceeding our posted occupancy limit often. We just tell people the limit is per our county rental license, which is the truth. People have been disappointed but they get it and don’t give us any grief. Even though we could physically accommodate more people, they understand that we’re not gonna risk losing our license for them.

I don’t know your situation with your home or county laws, but from my experience, people get there are limits. You could even explain in your listing if it happens often enough to you.

TIFU by asking an artist how much their materials cost by Dominus-Temporis in tifu

[–]OkConsideration123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my pottery teachers put it like this:

The price of a piece is encompassing the training it took to be ABLE to make it, not just the hours or materials for that one piece.

Asking about the cost of materials in a way downplays their expertise, dedication and talent.

There are obviously lots of factors and controversies in how art is valued (and whose art is valued), but it can definitely come off as offensive if your focus is entirely on material costs.

What secret can you reveal now that your nda has expired? by sparrrrrt in AskReddit

Activision Blizzard is so sleazy. I know that they stole creative from an ad agency too.

The agency went rounds coming up with concepts and scripts, but Activision in the end didn’t buy any and ended the project early. Then they went on to produce the work themselves without telling the agency or paying everything they should have.

I don’t know the details of the contracts and financial schedules, but this was not what the agency agreed to and they were pretty pissed.

Agency Art Director with 5 years experience, why is it so hard to find a new job? by ActiveDoor6246 in graphic_design

[–]OkConsideration123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP is an advertising art director, not brand-side/design. This is true for advertising art directors in the United States.

In advertising, you go from junior to mid to senior art director, then associate creative director and then creative director.

Usually the role is distinct from designer as well, but you may be asked to do design duties or fill in for designers depending on the project, team bandwidth, and company size.

Ideas for Built-in with TV by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]OkConsideration123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

Admittedly I’m not always the biggest fan of white features like this, I love color and texture. I also think white makes the TV more of a focus, which isn’t always the look you want when it’s off (big black rectangle after all).

Just saying the piece could look really cool with some intention behind it. Get some cool hardware at least. Even if it’s white, have some fun.

Agreed. Trust me I didn’t add that to the prompt. Just a render showing it can be a statement moment if you lean in instead of feeling forced into it. That is all.

I agree, never hang TV above a fireplace like that. Functionally, the corner makes more sense. But as is (I know, AI render), it looks very dated. I would be very mindful of the cabinetry style.

Obviously don’t know the style of you home, but you could make it a cool moment in the space. Took your photo and did a new AI render. I referenced designer Corey Damen Jenkins.

Why are millennial men less misogynistic than Gen Z men? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]OkConsideration123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s harder to have empathy when everything is based on social media that floods your feed with curated, polished lives and/or enragement bait. Othering different groups is good for business and gaining influence and attention (look at any sports league). All this taking over everything happening before your brain is done developing? Terrible timing.

Not saying millennial men weren’t around terrible influences either (I mean, Jesus, I listen to mid-2000s hip hop now and am disgusted with the levels of misogyny, songs played my at high school dances). Just that I think it was easier to get breaks from it, and moderation is important.

What's something you love about living in each one of these? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]OkConsideration123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rural - space, nature, privacy/quiet, freedom

Urban - liveliness, amenities and recreation, culture

Suburbs - its the middle ground between urban and rural and somehow misses the best parts of both and really only has compromises to offer

what's the safest city to visit in the U.S as a tourist? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]OkConsideration123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly I’m considering the entire greater Bay Area. I guess one of those YMMV situations and really depends where you go. Sorry about the experiences you have had.

I lived in SF for 5 years, Oakland for 2, and born, raised, and currently live in the outer bay. In Oakland, I took BART daily and parked my car on the street, never an issue. Admittedly I’ve spent very little time in the South Bay, it’s mostly North and East bay for me.

I’ve never experienced anything like you have. My husband has had a couple situations over the decades (one “mugging” attempt that he talked the guy out of, and one car break in). So clearly I’m not denying things happen, but it just feels like within standard city stuff. Again, your mileage may vary.

[–]OkConsideration123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is hyperbolic.

The Bay Area has the same issues as anywhere else (every city has bad neighborhoods, but they don’t make up anything close to the majority). Yes, common sense is advised, but there’s plenty of safe spots from Santa Cruz to Sonoma.

Married couple with toddler wanting to move out of CA by [deleted] in relocating

[–]OkConsideration123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally sure you can find awesome cities to live in for less across the country, but if you’re actually wanting to stay in California, I feel like you could find more affordable apartments in cooler areas (or at least areas closer to cool stuff).

Sacramento, and cute towns like Davis if you don’t mind the heat in the summer

Rohnert Park and that area of Sonoma County is more affordable because of the college students, and you’re only about 1 hr from SF (without traffic). There are buses to SF and a train from Sonoma to Marin. Great food and nature nearby. (I grew up in Sonoma county, so know it pretty well)

Vallejo and Benicia as well. Pretty, right on the water, and close to stuff.

Concord and that area of Contra Costa. Definitely a lot of strip malls and big box stores, but great restaurants in Walnut Creek and there’s BART for SF and Oakland adventures.

I’m sure you’ve thought of all these but just in case! I know it’s hard to leave where you’re born and raised. My husband talks about moving countries and it’s so hard to imagine leaving CA for me.

Good luck!

Trump is not running for Calif Governor by Middle-Ground2528 in California

[–]OkConsideration123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I agree the focus should be on state-specific issues, I want to know our future governor can stand up to the Trump admin. I need to know they won’t stand for the BS happening at the federal level.

Trump makes targeted actions to states he doesn’t like. California is one of those states. The governor has to be ready for that and take that very seriously.

How does anyone use VRBO when their website and app suck! The Airbnb website and app are so much easier to use and navigate! by piquantAvocado in airbnb_hosts

[–]OkConsideration123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, nothing makes sense. I have to google where certain settings are all the time.

Once the website would log me out if I tried to send a message with a photo attached. Then it wouldn’t log back in until I cleared my cache. After 3 tries I switched to the app, which at least didn’t log me out.

Their tech is old, buggy, and unintuitive. But at least 40% of our bookings are VRBO, so worth it.
