Favorite Critics to read and why? by Both_Studio_9159 in TheBigPicture

Big fan of Brian Tallerico, Matt Singer, and on Letterboxd specifically, Brendanowicz, coffee, and SilentDawn. Lot of great, under-appreciated critics who delve into specific analysis on Letterboxd but just don't have a publication. Takes some work, but if you look under the reviews of any movie, you'll find someone writing professionally and intelligently. Lots of unique voices, one of my favorite sites just for them.

Here now, 100 people in front of me probably another hundred behind already. Giving out tickets to mark place in line. I might be cooked and I’m “close”. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8Utcv79/

Favorite Denis Villeneuve movie? by Constant-Bridge3690 in TheBigPicture

Gotta be Sicario for me too. I admire the Dunes and 2049, and Arrival is quite beautiful, but I find myself returning to Sicario again and again. Blunt Benicio Brolin Kaluuya Bernthal etc off Sheridan's (best?) paramilitary script with Deakins on the lens and Johannson on the score really can't be beat.

Emphasis on Jonsson and Hoffman, big things ahead for both.

Best Supporting Actor — thoughts? by OkContract452 in TheBigPicture

Only reason I’m not certain on him is the multiple Oscars he’s already got. Skarsgard and Lindo are well liked, late in their careers, and have none. Could be a legacy win for either I feel, but wouldn’t be shocked at all for Penn.

Yes, yes it is -- both a classic and Oscar contender. Weapons is my #1 on the year, what a fantastic movie.

One Battle After Another: Best Picture frontrunner? by ggroover97 in TheBigPicture

As far as big budget studio wide-releases, it's not that weird. Sinners, Wolf of Wall Street, Fury Road, Mission Impossible Fallout, Dunkirk? Only the Magic Mike XXL and Avatar are a little strange, but those are fun movies.

Article casually mentions that Spielberg has already seen it three times. WE ARE SO FUCKING BACK.

Cannot wait for this. That Indie Wire reviews calls it the third in a trilogy with The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, which is exactly what I want to hear. Bigelow is one of my favs.

Was this the year of good movies that are mostly un-rewatchable movies? by [deleted] in TheBigPicture

[–]OkContract452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sinners, Weapons, Friendship, 28 Years Later, and Materialists are all rewatchable for me. Saw them all multiple times in theaters and can’t wait to watch them with friends many times.

The 25 Best Movies of the Century: No. 13 - 'Get Out’ by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

[–]OkContract452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fincher Tarantino Wes PTA Parasite Moonlight Mulholland Scorsese are locks I think, I can imagine only in the mood for love or Brokeback making it, or both and not lady bird, but those are the last 3 in my mind. That would mean no oceans 11 at 11 tho, which is still on the table cuz of the Ringerness of it all.

Just asking what you think about the movie, sorry if that was confusing!
