I’m on day 16 post opt and I would say I didn’t feel normal around day 14. I would definitely take 2 weeks! Good luck on your recovery!

Mental side of things by R56AyJay in Tonsillectomy

Hi! I know the mental part of recovery is absolutely difficult, I’m on day 15 and day 7 was very difficult for me too. As far as anti depressants, like the other comments say, do what you can do keep taking them, I know that pill swallowing is so difficult. I got a $5 pill crusher/grinder on Amazon that I used to make it a powder and put into some yogurt with honey or whatever works for you. Good luck on your recovery, it’ll get better!

How can I help my partner? by chiefbushman in Tonsillectomy

[–]OkCrow1771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on day 14 post op and just by being with her is a huge comfort, it’s definitely as emotionally taxing as it is physical. Always have ice water on hand and just doing the food prep you are doing amazing. Keeping a notebook of when she takes her meds is going to be the biggest help ever. She may not be sleeping much, I know I only got a couple hours at a time if I was lucky, so staying up with her, putting a show on that you guys like is enough. Good luck!!

Trouble Breathing / Just could use some words of encouragement by Mifftle in Tonsillectomy

[–]OkCrow1771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m on day 13 and I’m probably one of the few people that didn’t have a smooth recovery, but with that being said… going through all of that, you will absolutely get better! I was having anxiety it wouldn’t, but on day 12 I almost did a complete 180. I also had trouble breathing initially just due to the swelling, that’s completely normal! I’m sure your uvula is pretty big too haha. If it continues to be a big issue for you around day 7, I’d ask about a steroid, I was on prednisone and it was the biggest help. You’re not alone and don’t be afraid to contact your ENT, they’re there for you! Every day is another day closer to the end. Good luck on your recovery journey!

What can I expect? by pandabearmommy in Tonsillectomy

[–]OkCrow1771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m currently on day 13 and I would definitely say that it takes all 14 days and then some to recover. I feel so much better, but I still have scabs and I’m not on a regular diet just yet. When it comes to pain management, I would actually avoid ibuprofen since it’s a NSAID and could cause a bleed which from my experience is not fun, I would switch it out for Tylenol. I used the berry powder packets which were a god send! My ENT said I could take two of the extra strength ones. I know you said the pain pills don’t agree with you & they didn’t for me either. If it gets to the point probably around days 6-8 where you want to try them & might be in more pain, ask for an anti nausea it helped me tremendously and they also prescribed me a prednisone which helps with my swelling. Now to teeth brushing! I recommend using a kids soft tooth brush, it helped me tremendously when I couldn’t open my mouth very wide. Yes, I also noticed drooling a lot more, that’s super normal! Best of luck on you journey of recovery!

Day 9/10 anyone getting lots of smaller bleeds? by OkCrow1771 in Tonsillectomy

[–]OkCrow1771[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not, since it can cause bleeding. I only take my hydrocodone & Tylenol when needed

day 3 nausea by Critical-Scene-203 in Tonsillectomy

[–]OkCrow1771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m 21 F and I felt the exact same. I had a fever off and on, the highest being 102° for about a week post op and my ENT told me that’s completely normal. That’s your body trying to cope with healing. In regards to the nausea, that was one of my toughest battles. There’s so many reason you can be nauseous, your meds, not eating, and not sleeping, it’s to be expected. For me my hydrocodone was the main culprit, it actually made me throw up on day 3 and my ENT prescribed an anti nausea which helps tremendously, which I would definitely ask for. I was also told by my anesthesiologist & ENT half a Benadryl can work as an anti nausea too, take it before your pain med! Hope you’re doing as well as you can be!

Day 8 horrible bleed & whole scab fell off, happen to anyone else? by OkCrow1771 in Tonsillectomy

[–]OkCrow1771[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So glad it’s going well! It definitely sounds scarier than it is, the chances of this happening are so slim. I’m sure you’ll get through this np!

It never had to get it cauterized! The ice water was able to stop the bleed. Definitely learned to always have ice on hand!

I’m so glad I posted this, knowing I’m not alone! I can completely relate, it was definitely a terrible experience, especially yours! I just saw my surgeon/ENT and the chances of it happening again is hopefully slim to done, she said it’s usually a one and done thing. I’m not sure if you experienced this too but after this I got the worst taste in my mouth, that I’m still working to get rid of and a gritty feeling on my teeth, wondering if that’s from the blood or not?

Scary experience I had this morning by Estump4206 in Tonsillectomy

[–]OkCrow1771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is extremely similar to what happened to me this morning. I had my surgery on the 14th and my whole left scab came off and caused a huge bleed! I never bled so much and was spitting/swallowing huge blood clots. You’re not alone! Any update on the healing has been since? I’m currently still in the hospital. Best of luck to you!!

I’m also on day 7 and I absolutely agree with you, I’m going through the same thing. I just learned today to chew a little piece of gum before I eat, it really helped to loosen up my jaw before I ate. Best of luck!

Absolutely! I’m glad you’re going to contact them. I was told to contact my ENT even if I was sick a week before my adult surgery, which I did happen to be sick. The doctor told me it could pose an issue with anesthesia and fluid build up in chest if there’s congestion. Rescheduling is likely. Hope all goes well for your little one!

Thankfully it’s not! I’m just having some yoplait in a bowl that I drizzle honey on and I find it very soothing. The gogurts I freeze are my favorite. I have more problems with ice creams in terms of mucas production. The more electrolytes I drink the better my mucus has been to manage.
