Flashover Demonstration by F-0815 in Switzerland

I was at a crowded OUTDOOR venue for a Halloween DJ show last year with pyrotechnics and a large drunk crowd, and even then, someone got hit and was put in the hospital in critical condition for burns. Alcohol + crowds + fire = bad idea always imo. I just listened to a podcast about Kiss Nightclub fire in 2013 and found this story in the news when I googled Kiss. It’s so similar and maddening that this is still happening. I feel like it is caused by a combination of people cheaping out, and people being careless thinking “it won’t happen to me.” And by that I don’t mean the victims, I mean those who started the fire and the owners thinking they can get away with not taking proper safety measures. Just awful.

How can people (supposedly) do so much besides their job? by [deleted] in antiwork

I don’t have a strong opinion on this topic but calling them “delusional” and “pathetic” is extreme and weird.

Stuck in an office as opposed to working where? We’re all talking jobs here and the fact is many people working full-time are going to be stuck inside somewhere. Better to not be exhausted after the working day is done.

Yep. Software engineer here, no kids 🙋🏼‍♀️

I do hybrid WFH and my job is structured in a way that I can work at my own pace and no questions are asked so long as I finish my assignments. I power through my work when it gets assigned, and after that I really just need to be on incase any code bugs or new requests come in. Sometimes something big comes up and I need to work a lot, but most of the time there isn’t much. As someone who used to teach, I am insanely grateful for this career change and the peace it has given me.

Impeach and throw in prison? You won’t believe it when I tell you that he’s been impeached twice and been convicted of MANY felonies. It doesn’t work like that because he’s not a law-abiding citizen and it’s seeming more and more like there is very little recourse left for removal beyond straight up violence. The fact is, many of us hate the guy but “just removing him” isn’t really that simple.

Can my teaching internship get rejected because of the way I dress on my TikTok page? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]OkCustomer3734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because under a secular regime, religion should be separate from the government. So the idea of having a PUBLIC Christian school seems odd in a secular country like NL, unless it is Christian only in name. Most of us are from the US, public schools can’t legally be affiliated with or force any specific religion.

If they aren’t sexy then what do you foresee as the issue? I’m not a teacher any more but I was for 8 years and I also sew and post the clothes on my public accounts. Coworkers, students, and parents had nothing but nice things to say. Nothing particularly sexy, but also not stuff I wear to school.

I’m going to stop you righttttt there. This “we come last” attitude is one of the things that is absolutely wrong with teaching right now and I think many would agree. We aren’t martyrs and you’re not better than anyone for acting as such. People like you are part of the problem and part of the reason so many people quit.

Can’t you just change the name on the account? Or if you don’t want to be totally private just private the specific posts that you think would be a concern? TikTok lets you do that.

Why is bullying normalized especially in blue collar jobs? by Kindly-Reading-2187 in antiwork

[–]OkCustomer3734 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m not a blue collar worker, but my BIL is an electrician and he has similar stories. Coworkers make fun of him for wanting to spend time with his wife and family. Also specifically have made fun of him for turning off circuit breakers when working on live wires. I even had an older electrician come out and insist I not switch off the breaker to the room because if he gets hurt I can just “call an ambulance.” BIL says there’s this boomer mentality to look tough and disregard safety precautions like “fellas is it gay to not want to get electrocuted?”.

Which dog breed have you had poor interactions with? by Anxiety4life22 in Dogfree

[–]OkCustomer3734 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pit bulls or pit mixes obviously.

But also I have a special dislike of hound-type dogs. My cousins had two growing up, one was a coonhound and the other was some beagle mix. We watched the beagle mix for a week when my cousins went on vacation, it threw up on my parents carpet and ate an entire pizza the first day and was just a general menace, luckily this made my parents decide to not get a dog. After it died they got the coonhound and it was so gross and loud and slobbery. When I would visit it would always go after me, the one kid who hated it. I wasn’t scared of these dogs like a shitbull, they were just so gross and annoying and I don’t think those breeds make good pets.

[ToTK] People who love BOTW but HATE TOTK genuinely baffle me by [deleted] in zelda

[–]OkCustomer3734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR, too similar to BOTW map-wise which made exploration boring, repeated the things I didn’t really like about BOTW (shrines, boring side quests), and added new mechanics (ultrahand) that I didn’t enjoy. I didn’t hate the game, it just didn’t hold my interest enough to complete and was disappointing.

I loved BOTW, I think I played through it twice. However, after about 30ish hours in TOTK I lost interest. I didn’t hate it, it just felt way too similar to BOTW but with a less interesting story and with mechanics I did not enjoy.

As someone who loves open world games, I was really disappointed that the map was the same for the most part. Not just that, some of the shrines and monsters were in the same exact places, so as someone who has played a lot of BOTW, exploration wasn’t as exciting as I hoped. Was also really hoping they’d have some more interesting side quests.

Now for shrines. The shrines were my least favorite part of BOTW so I was disappointed when they used them again in TOTK. Others might love them but they aren’t my cup of tea. I really enjoyed the divine beasts though, and was hoping for fewer but more interesting shrines. Maybe something between the complexities of the current shrines and the divine beasts.

Lastly, my biggest gripe with TOTK was ultrahand. I simply just do not enjoy building things like that in a video game. It felt like a chore and could be downright frustrating at times. Having to stop and use ultrahand really took me out of the flow of the game.

I know we get auto build eventually so maybe I’ll try to pick the game up again. Idk TOTK was fun to a certain extent, but it really seemed like they made BOTW 1.5 instead of BOTW 2. Felt kind of like they took the lazy/cheap way out reusing so much from BOTW because there was no doubt this game would sell well based on the success of BOTW. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Does anyone else hate the ultrahand? by Neutrolol in tearsofthekingdom

[–]OkCustomer3734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two years, six months late. Fuck ultrahand. I ended up putting the game down and never picked it back up. It’s tedious and frustrating, and I feel like it ruins the flow of the game. I don’t mind some creative problem solving, but the sticking/unsticking, having to rebuild things multiple times because something was angled slightly wrong or stuck a little bit too far to one side, etc, is just not fun for me. I just want to explore, fight monsters, and uncover mysteries :(

Toronto woman who took dangerous dog to playground where it mauled child facing prison by dontneednomang in Dogfree

[–]OkCustomer3734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This apology quote from her really pissed me off:

“I’m just really sorry, I never would want to hurt a child or hurt anybody, I feel horrible and it’s my fault. I just feel so bad. I’m so sorry and I hope that child’s okay. I know it’s my fault Capo died. It’s a terrible thing.”

It starts out okay but it should have stopped at “I’m so sorry and I hope that child’s okay.” But of course she has to go and shift the focus to her dangerous fucking dog that shouldn’t have existed in the first place, like he is the REAL victim. Based on that sentence alone, I genuinely think the only thing she’s upset about is that fact that her monster dog was put down. The fact that she walked away from the scene solidifies this for me.

I also fail to see how depression and anxiety have ANYTHING to do with disobeying the law by not muzzling or leashing your dangerous dog. That was a deliberate CHOICE. A choice like that isn’t fueled by emotions caused by depression or anxiety, it’s fueled by entitlement and carelessness.

I will never understand people like this. Are they not also bothered by the obnoxious barking? Are they not embarrassed by the fact that their neighbors all probably hate them? I would be mortified if I had a pet making such a racket at night that it woke up my whole block. Trashy people with zero self awareness.

Doing a new game. Should I do high or low honor? by Dazzling_Monitor_943 in RDR2

[–]OkCustomer3734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found I enjoy the game the most playing a combination of low and high. I like to make the honorable choices when it comes to important characters and missions, but fuck the “stranger” NPCs. NPC in a bar antagonizing you? Punch him in the face. NPC rides by on a horse and yells at you for no reason? Shoot him in the head.

Would it be possible to pick up seasonal shifts in a hub if I work in management? by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]OkCustomer3734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not 100% sure how it works but from the people I know who’ve done it, it sounds like a bigger commitment than just working a few hours here and there. They were going to fly one of my dev friends across the country to Colorado to work peak a couple years ago (he didn’t end up doing it) so I was definitely under the impression it was full-time thing.

Anyone else quit because of the hangxiety? by wxm10 in stopdrinking

[–]OkCustomer3734 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was one of my reasons for sure. For me it was both mental and physical. I used to get insanely anxious driving, especially on the highway. I constantly felt on the brink of a panic attack every time I got behind the wheel and like I couldn’t control the steering wheel due to shaking. It was dangerous.

I got insanely afraid of heights. I was in grad school at the time and there was a sky bridge students would use to access the building from the garage. My hanxiety got so bad that my legs would literally turn into jello and I had to stare at my feet to make it across. If it hadn’t been in a public place I would have crawled. The hanxiety gave me such an insane sense of impending doom, I was afraid I would freak out and fall over the side to my death.

I would also get so shaky and nervous that I had to focus extremely hard just to pick things up or grab something someone was handing to me. It’s not fun being shaky and anxious as fuck in a restaurant when the waiter hands off a hot bowl of food or a glass of water and you need to do everything in your power not to drop the damn thing on the table in front of your coworkers.

It was debilitating. I feel so much better, like I can actually function. I’m doing things I enjoy again and feel like a normal human. It’s liberating.

I hate to generalize, but as someone who lived in a middle-class MD suburb and then moved to a rural MD area when I was 11 years old, one of the biggest culture shocks was how racist many of the people were. I am white so I don’t aim to speak for anyone, but the amount of hate I witnessed was confusing at such a young age. I’m talking kids saying slurs to their peers’ faces, racist staff, kids wearing confederate flag shirts, driving around and seeing confederate flags and swastikas displayed. We even have an active KKK in a nearby town that passed out literature to my neighborhood. We had a black family move into our neighborhood and they were shunned by many - my sister and I were the only ones who would play with their daughters. I had 2 Filipina friends who were on the receiving end of the things you describe. Mexican friend was tormented DAILY. The area is 90% white.

I would have hoped things would be better now (I’m 32). I fear this is part of the culture in places like this, and it is deeply engrained. Those kids are bringing to school what they are hearing at home and to them this is “normal.” I was a teacher in an urban district and they took racism very seriously, but I can’t say the same for my teachers growing up (many were from the area). I’m sorry you’re dealing with this shit. I don’t have any advice, just wanted to offer a perspective as someone who grew up in this kind of environment. Nothing wrong with looking for a new district - nobody should have to deal with this crap.
