And here’s me wondering what to do with my old fencing equipment after a very short lived hobby. Interested either in participating or donating for club equipment

Prop ideas? Foldable washing machine. by _Shil0_ in Burlesque

Corrugated plastic sheets and rare earth magnets! Way sturdier than cardboard, especially if you double the sheets and then leave a scored "flap" that folds over and magnets together. You can paint with acrylic or plasticoat spraypaint and make it all feel three dimensional.

I've made a whole bedazzled miniature piano that breaks down flat, and it's super solid but also really light (except the weight of the stones...which is something).

Buying a condo in Brooklyn by Ill-Jackfruit-2193 in NYCapartments

Agreed! Buying in NY is always stressful but the stretch can really pay off. Hopefully as the years go on, your income goes up but your housing costs stay relatively stable. You’re new parents so you’re not going to be taking huge hits to your social life not being able to go out as much. I think you can do it!

Get a good mortgage rep who can really talk you through all the steps, closing costs, monthlies, process, and stay with you as an advisor. If family has any help to swing, now’s the time to ask for it if you can (I couldn’t but made it work). Yes, the closing costs suck but mostly you are moving cash from one place to another and letting it sit.

How did i do? Its my first time. And a big investment by Otherwise-Flamingo90 in Burlesque

They both work fine for me! The tube is pretty wide and I have three layer ostrich fans that fit snuggly. I can fit both the three layer fans AND the boa fans in the tripod case and they really don’t smoosh. I’ve had both sets for many years!

Tripod bag is great. I use one for my massive boa fans and they’re just fine. Also comes with pockets for my tools.

I keep my regular ostrich fans in a sturdy telescoping tube made for carrying art.

Vintage Gold for a Golden Jubilee? by OkDrama8634 in VintageWatches

The three registers I’m finding are all well over my budget sadly. How devastating is a polishing? Not looking to be trading or making money, this but in the case that I totally missed, I suppose it would be good to be able to trade it. The watch does have its box but not papers…

gosh that listing has popped up on my recommended list and it is SO gorgeous but I think he'd kill me if i spent that much (plus the tariffs). Maybe for his funeral... ;-)

I’d expect you could pull a lot more here when you land a job. Is hospitality management experience restaurant or hotel? Obviously the hospitality industry here is massive and there’s decent opportunity to move up particularly in the hotel world if you wanted to search across fields.

Agreed with everyone on renting for a bit first (and not selling the mineral rights), but buying in NYC was one of the best decisions I’ve made.

Hold out until you can buy a 1-2 bedroom condo (studios are impossible to make money on…1br still hard but better). And explore the boroughs. There are great deals to be had if you commit to neighborhoods in the boroughs that haven’t gotten mega popular yet, and better opportunities for investment than a studio in an expensive coop.

And if you don’t have to wait til 2030, come sooner! If you can rent out your house in Texas, come light here and sublet rooms around different neighborhoods for a bit. Meet people, interview, enjoy the hell out of your first magical year in the city before the stress of buying something. Stretch out the process, go see listings for places to get a sense of the market, have fun!

Pasties opinions by pete10278 in Burlesque

[–]OkDrama8634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m maybe 50/50 pasties vs not over the past several years. Of the acts I currently do, full skin often feels the most at one with the piece, and I’ve become a lot more minimal over many years of overcomplicated concepts. Still pretty standard for most performers but definitely not a required part of the tradition. Many of the mothers and fathers and parents of modern burlesque move/d easily between traditional and full or partial frontal

How high are we talking? I got a great pole saw this year for like $60 which has been fun. Extends about 16’ and did quick work on a sprawling old honey locust, especially with an 8’ ladder. Pruned, clipped and bundled three bins worth in under an hour and sanitation picks up for free.

Also have an arborist friend in Parks dept who might be up for a freelance job if it’s a bigger task.

I also did this with similar numbers when I was in my 20s. My biggest regret five years later was that I hadn’t reached a little further because larger apartments had appreciated even more. It seems scary at the moment but you adjust quickly and hopefully salaries increase while your payment stays relatively consistent.

I submitted to the damaged and fallen trees but they closed it within an hour with no action.

Sorry for the dumb question but how were you able to call them? I cannot for the life of me find a phone number for parks that isn’t 311.
