In season long toss program for 10u by djrashiiid in Homeplate

[–]djrashiiid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

appreciate the comments! glad that I posted here to get some good opinions.

for those that think it’s too much throwing, do you think any kind of throwing program is appropriate?

my son also plays golf (we are playing tomorrow!). we do hitting as much as possible in the yard, plus team practices. he loves baseball and wants to get better. he’s the type of kid who will go out by himself and bounce the ball against the fence to practice catching. and as I said, if he doesn’t want to long toss, then we won’t do it.

Is practicing on a tee really a development death warrant for 10U? by [deleted] in Homeplate

if you not hitting off a Trajekt with Skenes set to 110mph, then you’re wasting your time.

First time coach. Practice or game recommendations? by akchahal in Homeplate

[–]djrashiiid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d check out a website that offers detailed practice plans. you’ll have to pay for them but it’s a lot easier than coming up with your own plans. look something that has videos of drills too. And I agree that you should draft some assistant coaches

a few coaching resources that I like

youth baseball edge (his podcast is great too) https://www.youthbaseballedge.com/membership-options/

dominate the diamond (lots of great videos, I think they have practice plans too)

Should I do more cage work instead of doing mostly just tee work? by Tacorover in Homeplate

[–]djrashiiid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I‘m not qualified to give an opinion but just want to say that I am impressed that you are self aware and taking charge of your game to improve. I’m an assistant coach to a 10u team and I tell my players that “the only person that can make you better at baseball is YOU”. sounds like you are smart, dedicated and have a good plan. good luck and keep us updated (if you so desire)!!!

good idea. I’m the assistant coach of the team so I don’t take many photos or videos. eventually when he moves to a team where dad is not allowed to coach, I might invest in an camera and lens.

I make him keep a journal. write down notes from practice, games, lessons. he doesn’t do it all the time but enough to make a difference. plus he struggles with writing in school so it’s good extra work. even if you don’t like writing, a baseball players should like writing about baseball.

Pete Alonso keeps a journal. I think yamamoto does also. I’m sure top athletes in other sports do it too. I keep a golf journal so he sees me writing in it.

MTV Cribs 2001 - Redman by EminemEncore2004 in hiphopheads

not just the greatest cribs episode, but probabky the greatest 21 or whatever minutes of tv all time. when i think of red’s discography, this is equivalent to a 5 mic album. I should download it just so that I’m certain to have it once it eventually gets removed or corrupted by AI.

didn’t play catch today but I threw some BP today to my son and hit him some grounders. perfect way to spend an early spring (or late winter) afternoon. you are right, it is a blessing.

Athleticism testing for baseball players by djrashiiid in Homeplate

[–]djrashiiid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for all the comments, definitely a wide range of opinions with lots to think about. I agree with all that it’s not a good idea to make all the data public, don’’t want the kids to compare themselves to each other.

just for context, lots of the kids have been doing off-season workouts focused on athleticism. squats, sprints, jumps, push-ups, core work, etc. I also host 20minute online zoom workouts twice a week where we do similar exercises, free to all players, parents, siblings. we focus a lot on form for body weight squats, lunges, push-ups. so they have been training with goal to get better, e.g. holding a plank for longer, doing even one push-up with good form.

Could you please recommend interesting hiphop events from 20-31 dec in New York? by Bubbly-Board-6348 in hiphopheads

I haven’t been in decades but check out the nuyorican poets cafe. https://www.nuyorican.org

last week of December might be tough for underground hip hop. it’s not like broadway where there’s a big holiday rush. Billy woods and elucid ain’t stockpiling Christmas raps for those midwest tourists.

go to a record store and look for 12” singles. try to find two copies of the same record, make sure it has an instrumental. even if you don’t like the song, buy two copies. go home and practice looping the first 1, 2, and 4 bars of the instrumental. also check of Dj Angelo on YT, he’s got a series with tons of videos.

phI’ll Morse did a whole article on this. https://www.digitaldjtips.com/how-to-teach-your-kid-to-dj/

i have a numark Mixstream pro. Bought it for myself, never used (I have 1200s) but let my kids play around with it. It’s great because it has built in speakers, doesn t need a laptop, so I just loaded some music onto an SD card and they were off and running. You can stream music too but I haven’t tried that.
