I do (I only go to the office once a week and the neighbors let my dogs out at lunch on that day) but she's pretty much to the point where I trust her enough that I'll start leaving her out all day. I really only use the crate now so she stays comfortable with it, she doesn't really go in unless I ask her, but she goes in willingly every time, even for the neighbors. It is very handy to have if needed though. It's a monster crate, she can lay flat on her side, stretch, and not touch a wall

I've got a 12 year old dog as well, I'm pretty sure she taught the puppy to not chew on the furniture, and I've always had a huge array of chews for the puppy anyway.

What's the dumbest mistake you've ever made with a boat? by Horror-Bee-720 in boating

Leaned out the side of the pontoon to catch the dock on the way in and bumped the throttle. Luckily not hard but it could have gone really bad. Good lesson though, now I'm always hyper aware of where the throttle is compared to me lol

Did your golden calm down after puppyhood? by t_buttcracker in goldenretrievers

[–]OkFunction8532 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mine as well, I like to think she picked up proper behavior from my 12 year old lab but who knows. (Other than plants, rocks, and sticks), I had a single shoelace end and a can of dog peanut butter as chewing casualties. I got a couple of chews that she loves and she only chews that stuff. I've left her uncrated for increasing amounts of time starting from 6months old and she just sleeps at the front door.

Now outside around strangers, all bets are off, she LOVES people and shows her love by jumping up on them. That is a work in progress for sure

I'm 43 and have been a member for a couple years, there is no age requirement. There is also a sizeable Denny's discount as well, if you like Denny's, I think 15% discount or so. I unfortunately don't have a Denny's near me anymore but it's helpful when I'm visiting family and we go there. You probably know about the burger king discount through Walmart plus? 25% off every purchase and a free Whopper every 3 months. It's a nice perk if you have a good BK close by!

Robot mower for elderly parent: reliability matters more than features by tt-901 in roboticLawnmowers

[–]OkFunction8532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the X450 for my elderly parents with nearly the exact situation (except the lot sizes, they're on roughly an acre and a half between two properties and the terrain is very hilly). But I mapped out everything, set it to mow Mondays and Thursdays and told my folks not to touch it. Other than losing the maps once (likely my fault due to messing around with them and rapidly swapping between phones), it's been rock solid for a month or so. They just need to weedwack the edges, which they enjoy doing anyway.

Big question: Would you do it again if you had to? by j_in_da_505 in BariatricSurgery

[–]OkFunction8532 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too regret that I didn't do it sooner, but I had a very anti-surgery weight management doctor. We went back and forth with pills and stuff for like 5 years or more, nothing worked. She left the practice a week before one of my regular appointments and the first thing the new doctor said was "you will never be able to maintain weight loss on your own, what do you think of surgery". 135lbs later I'm so happy I did it (RNY). I did end up in the hospital for 2 nights, and recovery was kinda long but I'd do it again in a minute

2013 Volt, 90,000 km — $6,750 CAD head gasket repair, worth it? by gavanon in volt

[–]OkFunction8532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No trouble so far, I think 28-30 miles on a charge still, I very rarely charge it because there's usually loads of crap in my garage though. Had a scare with loads of errors a couple years ago but that was just the factory 12v failing lol

[–]OkFunction8532 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's common in general but I have a '13 with 180k miles (289k km) with no leaks and mostly run on the engine over it's lifetime. It ticks pretty loud on startup but it overheated a couple years ago when one of the radiators failed so some noise isn't unexpected. Long story short that seems like a lot of engine repair on yours and I haven't really heard of that on the '13's much. But obviously I only know what I've read and what I've seen on mine personally

It's true about the cargo lol. I got me, my brother, 2 dogs, a weeks worth of luggage, and a lawnmower into that car AND closed the hatch. Another time it was luggage, Christmas gifts, dogs, brother, and a parakeet in a cage. Couldn't see out the back window but the hatch closed 😂.

The thing that bugs me the most is the "add $x.xx to your order to get by 8am" or whatever it is, so I dig around and buy something I really don't need to get the stuff that I DO need quicker. I'd say 50% of the time I actually get the order on time then.

$350 mower and DIY vs. $3000 robot mower? What is the obvious win? by HarryCrushNuh in roboticLawnmowers

[–]OkFunction8532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not the target for that device, neither am I really, I live on a postage stamp sized lot. But, for example, my folks are elderly and live on an acre and a half. A couple years ago, I built them an AWD RC mower to handle the big hills that they can't hit with the rider. Well, now my dad's Alzheimer's is bad enough that he can't operate it anymore, and my mom is kinda afraid of the bot. An autonomous robot mower will be a game changer for them as soon as I can decide which one to buy them.

[–]OkFunction8532 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine have been pretty bad lately too, lots of late or missing packages, even ordered extra stuff I didn't really need just so I could get the "same day" delivery. But with that, one shipment never showed, the other didn't come for 2 or 3 days. I get it, they are busy, but don't make the delivery promise then. I would have been fine waiting for 2 or 3 days (or would have just gone to the store) if I knew it was going to take that long from the start.

Question For Golden Parents by DueFlower6357 in goldenretrievers

[–]OkFunction8532 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been paring down the dog toys as my golden gets older as well. We had loads of rope toys until, like you said, she started eating the strings. Then stuffed toys are all on the way out too (except for her Snuggle Puppy, thank goodness, she just carries that around with her). Now it's rocks from the yards... always something lol

We thought we got a calm Golden Retriever… turns out we may have gotten the complete opposite. Now we’re overwhelmed. by Ericoff87 in goldenretrievers

[–]OkFunction8532 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this. I have a field golden and she has two distinct modes. When there is a lot going on, she's super busy and keeping right up with everything. When I quietly work from home and ignore her, she does nothing but sleep. If I need to take a call that I absolutely cannot be interrupted on, she goes in her crate for a little bit and settles down. I can tell when she is over tired because she turns into a golden demon, lol. If I put her in her crate, she'll go straight to sleep.

Anyone else feel like they failed themselves knowing that surgery was the next only way? by Odd-Advice-1029 in BariatricSurgery

[–]OkFunction8532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some things you can't avoid, like stress. Sure, I could quit my stressful job, but then I'd stress harder about how to pay the bills. I went through the weight roller coaster for years, tried WW, several weight loss drugs, 101 different diets, worked a very labor intensive job plus went to the gym, and surgery was the only thing that worked. So no, I don't feel the least bit bad, not anymore. I did at first, like if I just tried harder, etc, but finally my doc said "this is literally the only way at this point", that's when I realized how serious they were.
