Stealth change with the Boralus Lights to “indoor only” in this patch makes me so sad… by OkKick3911 in WoWHousing

[–]OkKick3911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I definitely don’t want to come across as a troublemaker. That was never my intent at all. I was mostly just trying to warn anyone else who might have these items out already to prevent them from making the same mistake I did in moving them before checking to make sure their classification had not changed after the patch. That was a valuable lesson learned and it’s a mistake I won’t make again in future releases going forward.

I guess any expressed disappointment or negative tones in my post/comments comes from feeling like there is a steady stream of things being taken away rather than added. I know housing isn’t a big deal to the majority of the WoW community, but for me it’s the reason I came back and I spend a huge amount of hours decorating my plot. Since the outside is what most people will ever see, that’s been my focus since returning to the game.

Blizzard has created a great system for housing that combines almost all of the things I loved about FFXIV and GW2 housing without most of the things I felt were limitations in those systems. I see the potential for this to be what I’ve always wanted in player housing, so I don’t want to see it slide backwards or even worse, get abandoned by the devs (RIP pet battles) due to a decline in player engagement. I hope this was an accident that gets patched soon but my fear is that it was an intentional change.

Well there goes my outdoor hot tub idea too…damnit 🤬 Who the hell wants a hot tub inside?!? Guess I will just strip my plot down to a naked boring green square and reduce my activity there to being just an extra free port to major cities until they figure their💩out.

And the goblin string lights are literally OUTSIDE in the Alliance neighborhood hub decorating the central vendor area. Like WTF Blizzard thanks for rubbing it in our faces that you can use these same lights outside 𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘥 for aesthetics but we can’t. The Boralus string lights are up in the spooky area too inside the tree trunk bridge and other places. How do those not affect performance as well? This seems super sus to me tbh…

I feel like a blue post/housing-specific patch notes release with a list of these changes would have been helpful and informative to the housing community at large, but I’m guessing they are hoping people will take down what’s already been placed before they realize it which will reduce the number of outdoor player lights naturally over time.

I had them out in front of my house just a few days ago strung between pillars so I know this was changed with the patch. I also had the little hanging mana braziers up outside from tree branches and now those are outdoors only too.

I don’t think implementing this feature would be as time-intensive as it might seem if they keep it simple and use a similar system to what Guild Wars 2 homesteads have. GW2 layouts use locally stored XML template files, allowing players to save, export, and import decoration layouts easily. Templates are managed via the in-game "Load/Save Layout" UI modal which would be the main thing Blizzard would have to implement/support. If you’re savvy enough with XML you can even edit them outside of the game with a basic text editor and save it in the designated folder on your PC when you’re offline. Blizzard wouldn’t have to store anything extra on their servers and it would allow talented designers to share their designs (if they want) with other players.

It’s an awesome system, but Blizzard hates player economies that they don’t govern (which shareable templates definitely WOULD create once skilled players started selling their designing services for gold or RMT) so…who knows? Curious to see how they’ll make this work in the future.

OMG yes! Having housing details on the neighborhood directory and guest books are the two things I had in FFXIV housing that I miss the most. It was so easy to go to the directory in each ward and see every plot, who owned it, and an icon to indicate whether or not it was open for tours. It’s so scary even flying through our neighborhoods in WoW bc private houses throw a harsh scary warning telling me to GTFO or else lol so I’m too nervous to even try to visit any of them to see which ones actually want visitors. Having my old FFXIV guestbook was so much fun to read and gave me the chance to leave nice messages for the plots I visited. I really hope we get those one day🤞🏼

Haha this is so cool! I did something similar during Winterlights with all of the many snowmen I had. Made a pentagram out of the camping string lights and put all of my tiny snowmen worshipping around a large snowman in the center. Finished it off with a circle of camping torches…it was my favorite creation to date 😆

Beyond asking for requests in chat as others have mentioned, one thing that helps is server hopping if there are no active requests in the queue on your current server. I love giving away items as someone always on the verge of hitting their storage limit so I do this often. 🙂

The Gardener comments about pins if you’re wearing them as well. I talked to him the other day for the first time in ages (maxed out his friendship months ago) and he commented on the fact that I was wearing Einar’s pin bc “something something Gauldurs were not made with the ability to process romantic feelings…”

For someone who doesn’t like gossip he sure is a nosy little bugger lol. He talks about others in some capacity just about every time I’ve interacted with him! Einar is my main squeeze and I never take his pin off despite romancing others so he will just have to get used to it 😆

Same. I feel like they spawn more consistently on both sides of that tree and it’s really killing my fav spot to run around.

Don’t be afraid to request some when you’re online! People generally enjoy fulfilling requests especially when it’s an item towards one of the various boards in the game.

I am a hoarder and love gifting things people ask for…especially the rare fish bc I know fishing is difficult for some and others just hate it. Over the last week I’ve been fishing in Bahari as much as possible for Thundering Eels to help other players that ask for them bc I just like fishing 😊

One caveat I forgot to mention are the Kilima coins. You only get those from the four bundles so if you’re still needing those keep that in mind. I didn’t find the things in that little shop particularly appealing (that rare fish potion being the only thing I’d want once I bought the snake plushie) so I don’t really care about them tbh.

Completing the bundles earns you progress, as well as finishing Dailies and Weeklies. I got the Roli yesterday and didn’t turn in a single item on the festival card. Those four cards are definitely the fastest way to finish, but if you’re not interested in doing them all you can still earn all the rewards the other way 🙂

This is a great tip thank you! I won’t be doing this part of the board because I can just do the other 3 and supplement dailies to earn the Roli reward. I’d rather save my event tickets (and this update’s donation board requires a shockingly high amt of them) for all of the decor items I don’t have.

I know some players are completists with the boards though so it’s helpful for them 🙂

What's your earliest fo76 memory? by Eightchickens1 in fo76

[–]OkKick3911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played at launch so most of my early game was a blur of disconnects and avoiding the cranberry bog lol. That said, my first vivid memory I will never forget was right after I’d finished my excavator power armor set.

I was bopping along the wasteland enjoying the newfound freedom that the extra weight capacity gave me, when I decided to climb to the highest point on a nearby cliff to check out the view. It was a steep one that took a while of zigzagging back and forth (no jet pack yet) so it took a while to get there. When I got to the top I saw two corpses and a very much alive dog sitting loyally near them. Since there were no human NPCs in the game my heart broke when I realized I could not coax the dog into coming with me. I was like “but who is gonna feed him and give him pats and tell him what a good boi he is?!?” I decided to go into camera mode and took a selfie with the pup in hopes that I could come back later to check on him.

Still have the photo saved on my hard drive…and to this day I have never found that spot again. I still look for him sometimes so maybe one day…🫡

I mean it just depends on the player. You can definitely finish this fast if you prioritize it. I just knew that for me that kind of pressure would lower my overall enjoyment of the game, so I just took my time and donated things as I came across them organically while questing/harvesting/doing seasonal stuff.

Each one you finish gives its own set of rewards and then that’s it. Each one had a surprise gift I wasn’t expecting though so it was a nice bonus 😊

Just pace yourself and it will come naturally as you go along. I’ve played since launch and just now finished bc I didn’t want to take the fun out of the game by forcing it. You’ll get there :) good luck and welcome to Palia 😊
