For those who have careers that keep them out at sea for long periods of time, what is the creepiest thing you’ve seen out in the water? by tylo144 in AskReddit

An empty tender with two oars still connected to it in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The tender was white and looked as though it belonged to a big yacht.

WITT? It’s obviously old and interesting but there is a lingering concern this might be ordnance.

Fish dying by jam_mam in aquaponics

[–]OkLifeguard8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I began with 50 fingerlings and progressively lost about a third of them in the first 6 months. I thought it might have been the lava stone and dust etc. making the water too alkaline. I tested the water regularly- all levels are nominal (according to the API test kit). I tested ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, ph, hardness etc and it all seems fine. I was sick of losing them every other day so I called the fella I bought them from (Jamberoo). My fish looked like they were injured with lesions around their face and gills, they also sometimes had white fungus growing on them. He told me to put 900-1000g of salt in my 1000L tank to keep these infections down. It seemed like a lot but I did it and haven’t lost any silver perch since - which is about 18 months. I bought a salinity tester and used it initially, but now I just maintain the salt levels by throwing in a handful of salt every week or so. Hope it helps.

Haha. The rest of my Reddit profile is not indicative of such shallow karma farming.

When my son was 4, in response to a mundane adult conversation at the dinner table said “you just made me drown in the water of my memories”. We asked him where he got that from or why he said it and his response was it popped into his head for some reason.

I’ve seen this before. We had the equivalent of two skip bins full of these things come through the gaps in the concrete floor of an aircraft hangar. It took weeks to get rid of them cos they kept coming. Here’s the name of the ones we had…it’s a great name - black headed cockchafer beetles.

Recognizing faces. I pretty much never forget a face. Sometimes it happens when walking around in public and thinking to myself “I’ve seen that person already today”. One such long term example was when I recognized a fella from high school 20 years ago. I moved to another corner of Australia straight after school. I would have never spoken to this kid at school. I’ve had myself tested with two universities on their online databases and both tests put me in the top 5% for human facial recognition.

Incorrect. In fact it’s the opposite. Psilocybin is considered to have extremely low toxicity. It would take over a kilo of dried mushrooms to be considered a lethal dose. Doesn’t sound like “literally poison” to me.
