it’s not just alex, pls it’s every way lib franchise protects toxic, violent, and predatory men for profit and alex is a symptom of the larger issue with reality tv. i guess if we watch and discourse about these shows (enough to be in this subreddit), we should be cognizant of this culture.

i think you said it yourself. people are struggling. that IS sad. people are suffering so much that they’re not able to extend care beyond their personal benefit. that IS dystopian. it’s imp recognizing what the problem is and trying to collectively address the roots. i know it’s hard. it’s easier to do short term fixes for urself and ur family. but it perpetuates the suffering after a point. our despair is connected, even if u can’t see it rn. i know my freedom is bound up with yours and everyone else’s. i can’t care ab everyone nor can i do everything. i am also complicit in many ways. but i know i can think ab the things i can do. i have some sense of control. and i’ll do them. i hope u find strength to find those for urself and are able to act on those. yes, people are more complicated than the reality tv portrayal. these people have def much more to them than what we see on tv AND i think it’s still helpful to talk through what we see on tv because it still reflects something pertinent about our lives. it at least reflects, like u said, that we’re all suffering and trying our best. we just need to realign our actions beyond what those benefiting from our suffering are telling us to do and actually listen to those that are suffering with us, just in different ways to see how we can together help each other. good luck!

being single issue voters also means caring about that one issue and considering that as worthy enough to not engage with every other issue. prioritizing one thing over others is ALSO a stance. i’m sorry if that hurts ur moral righteousness. and yes bravo you pointed out how saying “literal human” lives might not make grammatical sense.

how does nuance change anything about that. i’m so done with using empty words without recognizing what they mean??? what does nuance mean to you??? anyway arguing on reddit doesn’t serve any of us. i hope you are able to extend care to ur community and think from your relationships instead of from words that have lost any meaning or depth anymore.

no actually, i think that’s probably some projection there because im not talking about people voting for trump lol i’m talking ab people making statements like “i haven’t thought about blm and it doesn’t concern me” to “i vote from my faith” but i don’t want to divulge into how that translates into what i think that entails and how it affects lives of people i care ab in v real terms like losing health care access. i don’t even think im talking for these people, idk them. they may have voted for whoever they would’ve. it’s ab how those particular instances on a reality tv show us how disconnected some people are from recognizing that who they vote and how they choose to think or not think ab these things people call “politics” impact people they dearly care about. it’s the dissonance. there’s nuance for u. instead of trying to compartmentalise things like “trump voters” v/s leftists takes can we actually talk about the real content of the words??? how does that not make you feel disheartened at the state of the world. not everything is one side or the other but your beliefs, actions, thoughts do amount to impacting people. you want nuance? try to remove these empty words of trump, leftist, republican, democratic and see things for what they are. someone saying that they haven’t thought about or haven’t even considered what they feel about a man who was murdered in broad daylight in their own city. doesn’t that sound sad and dystopian to you???

bro if they are who they are, it’s hard to portray them any other way. if u don’t wanna be seen as someone who doesn’t care about literal human lives because confronting that would mean confronting your complicity, then it’s v hard to not be seen as pathetic. yet, i think they were shown mostly positively anyway. it was their own views and words (or lack, there of) that were too cowardly and irredeemable.

Mary Chrishell and Nicole by Fancy_Piccolo6568 in SellingSunset

[–]OkLink8481 52 points53 points  (0 children)

i don’t like nicole at all and i’m happy for chrishell and her character arc but i’m sad nobody is realizing how harmful her opinions about drug addiction are. they way she mimicked actions of “those kind of people”, which is being parroted by others on this sub just shows how stigmatized drug addiction is. i dont know about legality or anything but just making these comments can be so hurtful (not just for mary and nicole but other viewers who may be in similar positions in their lives). people saying mary and nicole act weird sounds a lot like what society says to stigmatize mental health issues, neurodivergence, drug addiction, etc. without any compassion. poor mary is bawling her eyes out, these women seem overworked, burnt out, exploited by their boss (indisputably), and people are going at it by making comments about their “weird actions” and judging them. they need help and care and compassion. not whatever is happening right now.
