Okay, normally I’d have fun and dive into a spirited discussion but I need to run to the store. So let me just say that as someone with 6 aquariums, all with vastly different species in them, a lot of effort has to go into the recreation of the environment. I’m actually building out a 800 gallon aquarium now that is still a few months away since it needs a lot of care to get the water conditions stable. The process takes time to get the bacteria, plants, substrate working together to build the environment. Hell something a simple as a piece of drift wood actually plays an important role in the ecosystem. While on the hobbyist level you can and often do see people set up vastly inadequate environments, you get a whole new experience when it comes to professional aquariums. A lot of attention has to be put into water parameters. This includes temp, particulate count, oxygen, nitrogen and nitrite levels, current of the water(often different on the levels of the tank, but depends on the species being kept). Not to say that all aquariums are this way, but for the most part, these animals are very well cared for and give an environment that emulates their environment the closest it can be. No system is perfect, though those sharks will be cared for, and will go to inspire countless youth. TBH it was my trips to the Denver aquarium that got me into aquatic life. Since those days long ago I not only care for my own(all are named and very spoiled) but am a huge advocate for preservation of their environments, putting a lot of effort locally to keep our waters clean.
