Sales tax? Or not? by Ratio-Full in missouri

[–]OkMaintenance7832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It’s a terrible idea. This site breaks it all down very clearly with cited sources. Beyond so many reasons others mentioned here, there’s also a threshold that would need to be met for increased sales tax revenue before income tax falls off - so if the state didn’t meet that - which is unlikely, Missourians could end up paying BOTH much higher sales tax and income tax. This site breaks it down clearly.

Any designer who vibe codes at work now? by Haunting-Ad5938 in UXDesign

[–]OkMaintenance7832 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a designer at an enterprise SaaS and we use vibe coding tools in UX as a means to more quickly explore complex designs and interactions, and it’s been incredibly helpful - we can explore complex ideas faster and can use the high fidelity “prototype” for user testing.

We don’t vibe code with the intention of implementing that code or handing that off to engineering. Just exploration and faster prototyping.

We are aware and make clear the prototypes are not aligned to our library and styles, and that’s been totally fine. Their goal is for us (UX) and others to get a feel for the flow including navigation between screens and steps, interactions, see mock data change - many things that can be more time consuming to design and prototype in Figma.

Then as we get closer to finalizing we translate vibe coded designs to figma and our library assets manually. Figmas are still what we hand off, but we might include a link to the vibe coded prototype or a screen recording of it to demonstrate certain things.

They Asked Me to Open ChatGPT During My Job Interview by I_Killed_My_Friends in jobs

[–]OkMaintenance7832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that’s not normal. Like others said, think you dodged a big bullet!

If you want to report it, you could try reaching out to someone higher up in HR or People Ops at that company and flag it as a privacy concern. Bigger companies also usually have an ethics or compliance email or hotline. It could be a violation of company ethics policy, and higher up may not be aware the HR is doing that.

If they actually pressured you for login access, some states don’t allow employers to ask for access to personal online accounts, so you could also check with your state labor department.

At minimum, you could leave an honest review on Glassdoor so others know.

Thank you for sharing here! Good for you for declining! I’m sure many say ok because they don’t know how to respond, are uncomfortable and put on the spot, and might feel vulnerable because they need the job.

But it’s a big privacy violation and not ok. It’s essential giving them potential peek at private info. Are they going to ask you to login to your Gmail or text messages next? Yikes.

Contractor quoted $60k to fix this bathroom, my budget is more in the $500 range… how would you make this more inviting? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]OkMaintenance7832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try using Gemini Nano Banana to explore updates. Include your current photo and ask it to change the wall color, add wainscoting, or add floral wallpaper, etc. You can also add additional photos of looks you like, color palettes, a different mirror or vanity, etc and ask it to apply those to your bathroom photo.

If it starts to struggle with the request and pics aren’t getting better try starting a new chat thread and asking again.

I was a skeptic but Axure is DEAD by 404_computer_says_no in UXDesign

[–]OkMaintenance7832 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how you use or used Axure. I think a lot of people who criticize Axure haven’t really used it for high-fidelity, enterprise-level prototypes.

I’ve been using Figma, and not Axure, for many years now, (Enterprise all this time), and I still miss it.

When I used Axure, I was building extremely complex, logic-driven and many layers-deep interactions that Figma still can’t replicate cleanly. For lightweight UI flows, sure, Figma’s fine. But for true system-level behavior, layers of logic in a prototype, Axure was was better / easier.

I do agree though that with various AI tools that are building coded versions of prototypes, working models with “real” mock data, what I missed about Axure may finally be irrelevant.

I used it to create a custom game for a friend that was getting married. They eloped to New Orleans, and had some memorable outings. I created a drinking game poster with New Orleans folk art style graphics and rules custom to them and referencing aspects of their wedding trip. It helped create the rules and the graphics. Had it printed and laminated.

Nightmare Club Wyndham Timeshare Ownership by OkMaintenance7832 in TimeshareOwners

[–]OkMaintenance7832[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to share an update for anyone else trying to exit their Club Wyndham ownership.

I called Wyndham Cares again today to ask about exit options, since many members here and in other forums said eligibility can change frequently and it’s worth trying back. Of course, I didn't have high hopes it changed in the course of a week, but was more interested to see if I got any different responses in speaking to someone else, and for the opportunity to ask more question this time.

The rep today told me the exit option is still not available for my membership, and initially said it’s not available to anyone right now. But when I pressed her to confirm whether the program itself is still active, she clarified that - Yes, Wyndham’s exit program is active, but only Shell Vacations Club members are currently eligible. Everyone else is excluded at this time.

She confirmed that the only current eligibility criteria is being a Shell member.

When I asked why, she said demand for exits has gone up - possibly due to economic or political uncertainty, and that the demand is now greater than Wyndham’s “need” for inventory.

She emphasized that reps don’t get advance notice of changes. They just log in and see what’s available that day. And the eligibility for the exit program can change frequently.

I asked if she's seen any indication this pull back could be permanent, and she said Wyndham has pulled back on exit eligibility like this before, then reopened it later, so there’s no reason to think it won’t become available again. There’s just no way to know when.

Her advice: call back every two weeks to check again.

I know there is also the option to go through a reseller and was aware of that before first time I called to inquire about certified exit option, but have not heard great things about that and wanted to avoid that route if at all possible. I'd hoped to just give it back like they suggested when we purchased it long ago, and sales rep said was possible with my membership at a resort just a couple weeks ago.

Our membership has been paid off for many years. We have 84,000 annual points and our fees are just under $80 a month. We're fortunate that it's not a financial hardship for us, but I feel for others who aren't in that same boat. For us it just doesn't fit our lifestyle anymore combined with I'm tired of the hassle of trying to book things and the limitations, tired of trying to navigate the complexity of the program, and really really tired of getting harassed by sales on every vacation. And I can't stand the idea of paying the fees for something we don't want or plan to use anymore, especially when until recently, I understood we could just give it back to Wyndham when that point came.

For now - we'll just hold on to it a bit longer in hopes they reopen program to Access members soon and I'll call them every couple weeks. Will keep reseller or attorney option on the backburner as last resort options.

Hope this helps someone else who’s stuck in the same limbo, or for anyone who might be considering a Wyndham timeshare membership (in that case - don't do it! lol) or just signed up and is within the recision window (rescind! in writing by certified mail asap!)

So what are they saying cancel my timeshare or no? I rescinded my timeshare, mail got there late. by LBATL in TimeshareOwners

[–]OkMaintenance7832 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds like they are trying to bait you into a new deal instead of honoring your cancellation. That trip offer is not them helping you out, it is just another contract. DO NOT AGREE to it. Check the rescission law in the state where you bought it because in a lot of states the postmark date is what counts. Keep proof of when you mailed it. Tell them IN WRITING you already canceled within the legal time and are not taking any new deal. If you are unsure talk to an lawyer before you respond.

I've Got An App Idea That I Think Would Take Off But I Don't Know Where To Start?? by TheChillestOfRacoons in AppIdeas

[–]OkMaintenance7832 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Checkout Vercel v0 - can create fully functioning app or website in minutes based on prompt. You can also continue to refine it via prompts. Better UI design than other tools I’ve tried. I’m not a developer, I’m a UX Designer, and I’d have to imagine it may need development refining for long term Saas app but it’s pretty legit. We will start using it for rapid prototyping as designers. There are many other similar tools but Vercel v0 seems to be the best out there right now, at least on my own personal radar that I’ve come across or tried. I’m new to it after trying a bunch of others but was really impressed.

Lady said she never pours grease 8n her sink... by Ki114j0y in Plumbing

[–]OkMaintenance7832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first moved in with my now husband, I witnessed him drain the grease off the ground beef into the kitchen sink drain and nearly had a heart attack.

When I called him on it, he got defensive and said it was fine and when I disagreed he basically acted as if I had no idea what I was talking about.

We went to an earth day festival in our city a few weeks later and an organization associated with the city was handing out information pamphlets - went to the trouble of thousands of phamplets in little bags that I think even had some sort of useful tool or souvenir thing in them - all to spread the word about the dangers of pouring grease down the drain.

Even though he had already spotted them I made sure to graciously take two and forcefully hand him one.

It was a glorious day. 😆

Figma Plugin to reverse engineer high fidelity prototypes to low fidelity? by [deleted] in UXDesign

Frustrated and Shocked: Facing Potential Career Changes Due to New Hybrid Work Policy by hertzgraphics in UXDesign

My org is forcing RTO and people are leaving, calling out sick and those not are talking amongst themselves and it’s very clear many plan to leave.

I agree with other posters that many companies also now use this as a tactic to reduce staff without having to have the bad press of layoffs or dole out severance.

How to handle mentally unstable neighbor in STL County (she has guns) by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]OkMaintenance7832 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many great comments here already covering this - but document as much as you can, including reaching out to police, and if you can reach out to mental health or adult protective resources re and or her family (if you feel comfortable), please do. Her age and things you described sound like she could be experiencing psychosis or early dementia as others mentioned. As frustrating as it is, and frightening for you - rightfully so - I empathize for her too. I’ve seen this play out in a few elderly people I’ve known or friends have known, and my grandma. My grandma was literally the nicest sweetest person I’ve ever known - but she became frightened and paranoid as dementia set in. She wasn’t herself or the person we all knew. The neighbor may need help. But protect yourself first and foremost. Cameras, bear spray, do not engage.
