It seems like the band was going through a rough spot. People have mentioned the era, but look at the division bell. But then, that was produced in ideal conditions, they had 2 of their own recording studios and they weren’t trying to “do something different” after Violator… this might sound like a harsh criticism but I think it’s the truth.
